It was an excellent idea, after a long flight arriving late afternoon, to stay in this calm"burgo"near the airport instead of rushing into busy Rome.As if we just went back to 14th century-close by restaurant-very good-castle and church next door-employees very receptive!
The escavations of a Roman town on the Tiber, near by, are worth a visit. I suggest to use the Hotel transport as the airport taxi took the long-cut to Ostia antica charging 40Euros!!

we were offered a room in the third floor without lift, and without facilicities to carry our luggage, they agreed to change it for a room in a countryside, where TV connections were poor, no curtains in the shower, therefore all the water was spread in the bathroom, no people is available during the night, the breakfast was poor.

We stayed in an apartment in the burg for our last two days in Italy. What a wonderful relaxing way to end our trip. The service was impeccable and the apartment was beautiful and very comfortable. I recommend making dinner reservations at the farm house. The "light menu" was delicious but quite a bit of food so don't snack before hand. The archeology site across the street was amazing. We loved it.

The photos for this place totally under sell it. It is far nicer and the staff were great. This accomodation is hard to describe but you'll miss out on a piece of living history if you don't at least spend a night. This was the last place we stayed in Italy before flying out and I have recommended it to all my friends.

I had planned to spend the after noon sight-seeing, before we left the next morning. Arrangements were made to pick us up at the train station. (If you have more than one piece of luggage each, the price went up) but, we were inexperienced travelers ... you could tell by our luggage, this would be our only complaint. The office did a wonderful job communicating and arranging our stay. We were out in the country, about a 3/4 mile from office. It was lovely... with 3 people traveling our accommodations was a shared living-room space, filled with antiques, fireplace, TV. Two sleeping areas, large bathroom. Little surprises welcoming us, (which I will leave to your imagination) and a piece of chocolate before you went to bed. Unfortunately, we arrived to late to see any sites, also we had a downpour of rain the rest of the night. We went to the "cooking" class for dinner, The cooking class is not to be taken literally, its a menu example of a typical dinner of the times ... but a delightful dinner by their chef and everyone gets a little token gift at the end. We were driven back to our apartment by the owner. Since we were unable to explore, he gave us a quick history of our surroundings. Not only were accommodations made for our early departure, but the arrangements for our cab to the airport. We were fortunate the rain stopped for breakfast and a lovely walk of 5 minutes or less. We would definitely stay again and will schedule time for exploring. See you next year!

It was a fabulous place to stay the last night in Italy. It was only 15 minutes from the airport so it was very convenient for flying out the next morning. We stayed in an apartment inside the walls which was excellent. There was a great restaurant a few doors from our apartment where we ate outside. That evening there was a wedding at the church inside the walls which was very entertaining. It turned out to be a lot more than just a hotel by the airport.

This second stay was even better than our first last October. The rooms were great and met our family needs perfectly. The setting is first rate for an old European experience - the local "village" had a wedding going on, and the backdrop of local cats, dogs and pigeons was very appropriate. Good options on restaurants nearby, and easy access to the excavations at Ostia Antica (which offer more to see than Pompei) and airport make it ideal. First timers may have some difficulty finding it, and the two locations can be confusing on the website. Reviewer notes were helpful in this regard.

We stayed at Rodrigo de Vivar on our last night in Italy.
The only problem was that it was very hard to find the actual hotel and thankfully, our cab driver persisted, and stayed with us until we found it! We had thought it was a hotel, as in one building.... that was the confusion.
Rodrigo de Vivar is just inside the small "bargo" (I think they called it) directly next to the Castel. The office is just inside the 14th century gate. All the rooms are made up of apartments scattered throughout this small Italian neighborhood.
It is simply charming. You had the feeling of stepping back in time a few centuries!
Our rooms were spotless, and decorated with many fine antiques. I supposed that each set of rooms is different. On arrival, there were fresh flowers laid out on the bed, with a story of mediaval lovers. Utterly charming!
Once we finally found the office we were greeted most warmly with coffee, while we sat and did the check in.
There are many modern conveniences when you go outside the bargo, but inside, like I said, it is another world.... tiled roofs, shutters, a small village church, and at least two very good authentic Italian restaurants.
Everyone spoke enough English so that we were able to understand.... and our limited Italian helped, too.
Our apartment had 5 rooms! Foyer, living room, two bedrooms and a large clean bathroom.
The breakfast was brought up to our room on a tray.
I wish we had allowed more time to stay at Ostia Antica so that we could have seen more and had another night or two at Rodrigo de Vivar!
Thank you to all the staff :)

The triple room was actually a beautiful suite. The living room has a fireplace, the accomodations included a room for my daughter, and a room for my husband and I. The bathroom was spacious and has a bathtub. The location is absolutely enchanting, inside the borgo and next to the castle. There is a private parking area in front of the hotel included in the price. The hotel staff was courteous, warm, knowledgeable, and ready to help. There was a coffee maker in the living room and plenty of magazines and books to read. There are no public areas but the rooms are so spacious that you really do not need any public space. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet room far from the city noise (Rome), but within 35 minutes driving time.
