HOTEL REVIEWS

United Kingdom, Aug 2008
Like other reviewers, we had a nightmare trying to find this place - it's down a back alley, behind another back alley! Even the locals we asked had no idea where it was and the map supplied was completely useless. That said, it was a quiet location, just a very short walk from the centre of town. There's no private parking either (as listed in the available facilities) and be warned that you can't get a tea or coffee outside of breakfast time. The rooms certainly weren't soundproofed, again as advertised... The bizarre clear glass door for the bathroom mentioned by other reviewers has been sorted (at least in our room), and the shower has tiny trough around it that overflows if you stay in the shower for more than a couple of minutes. Moans out of the way - the rooms and beds were comfortable (although the top bunk didn't have a top guard and our 6 year old son was in danger of falling out in the middle of the night. In the end we hemmed him in with pillows!). The staff were professional if not exactly bowled over to see you, but they did speak good English and knew what they were doing. I was able to buy tickets for the Oceanografic institute, but they could only accept payment for these in cash. No cards! Never mind, I thought, at least I'll save a queue when I get there... however, the queue for tickets was tiny compared to that for reserved tickets! My advice is, don't bother! We had a family room which was spacious and the a/c worked fine, breakfast was great and good value for money. We stayed for one night on a weekday and didn't have any of the noise problems mentioned by other reviewers. The location is this hotel's biggest advantage and now that I know how to find it I'd definitely stay again.

Excellent hotel. I suggest it since is in the very heart of Valencia, clean and comfortable. Of course I would stay there again if I'll go to Valencia again some time.

I have stayed in High Tech hotels in Barcelona, Seville and now Valencia. Rated in order Valencia came third, mainly because of reasons beyond their control. There is a very noisy and late bar opersite the hotel and a few metres from the hotel there is a big green trash dumpster that always had rubbish around it weather empty or full. BUT,overall not a bad place to stay. The family rooms are good value. For a quiter spot, check out The Astoria Palace just around the corner, no family rooms there.

Everything was fine, I would suggest this hotel for everybody but if you take a double bed room, the price is the high but in right relation with location of the hotel. If you take a 4 person bad room, it's cheaper and relationship between price/quality is excellent.

We had to wait until 14h30 to check in (the site said 12h), and the people at the desk didn't even apologize. The room was on the street, in front of a club, and was very noisy at night. But the location was excellent and the room very nice and spacious.

El hotel está muy bien situado. En recepción son simpatiquísimos. Las habitaciones no estaban muy limpias.
USA, Aug 2007
Almost impossible to find with all the one-way narrow streets. Hotel staff were not helpful about finding parking or other major locations in town such as airport. Lost in the city 3 1/2 hours trying to find airport and then get back from it. Hotel staff gave me a map and said it was a 20-minute drive. Map very unhelpful. Room clean but very small.

Besides of the excellent and central position of the hotel, the hotel itself was not convincing. The room was poorly cleaned, the lift only worked with problems, the special announced hydrosomething shower was defect and we waited hours before rooms were ready. One main annoyance of the room was the glass door of the bathroom, where you could see everything and have a clear look to the toilet!

Just a suggestion: it would be helpfull to have air forced into the toilette because it doesn't have windows and the humidity goes into the room..for the rest excellent hotel-position

The hotel is located in a very good position, few steps from the center, and in a quiet street. The hotel seems to be new and modern, with internet-free available. The room are well furnished, with new furniture. The only bad thing in the room is the door of the bath that is in glass wkth a see-through window in the middle. I can't understand how someone could think to buy these doors... Any way, my rate is VERY GOOD.

Although there were many comments that were negative on the website, we were very pleasantly surprised by our stay. The rooms were very clean and spacious enough for two people. There were two computers that were often empty to check email or surf the web on. The hotel was nicely situated in the center of the historic area which allowed us to walk from our hotel to all of the sites (except the beach). I would definitely stay there again - without a doubt!

Very small rooms. No airconditioning available until hotter summer months, so forced to sleep with window open during very noisy run-up to Las Fallas. Hotel staff quite incompetent- e.g. retained my passport after photocopying by mistake, and only told me when I asked them as a last resort. I was pretty worried, and since it had my name on it they could have simply called the room to tell me. Executive room allocated, not excell. Very small, and no exercise bike!

A central location but noisy on the weekend nights in rooms at front as night-club opposite. Two lights without bulbs when we arrived in our room, pointed this out to the man on reception who said he knew of the problem but there was no one to replace the bulbs - they did not get replaced the whole time we were there. On the morning we were leaving, we ordered a taxi for 0830 and waited for breakfast at 0800 - we were told the waitress was late so no breakfast was laid up. We did eventually got cold breakfast before we had to leave, but one of our party who wanted a hot breakfast did not get this as we did not have enough time - he had paid for this breakfast! We would not stay in this hotel again.

Hotel was good and in an excellent location for the old city (eg cathedral 5 minutes walk). But the price is high when you have to add 11 Euros for each breakfast. The glass bathroom door was not an issue for us and the internet connected PC in the room was very useful during the stay.

Fantastic location, right in the middle of all the best parts of Valencia. Great decor, although the majority of staff were generally unhelpful, but I think thats a Spanish thing! Luggage holding facility was poor, make sure you let them know that you wish them to hold your luggage (for a late checkout), otherwise you might be disappointed. Overall though a good hotel, I would recommend it.

The location is fabulous and the breakfast buffet was good. The desk clerks speak English and free internet is available. However, we were given a room which didn't serve our situation: grandmother, mother, and grandson sharing a tiny room with a glass bathroom door two feet from the bed. The door was frosted except for a 12" square with the hotel logo which was in line with anyone lying on the bed. This room was obviously for a single person or a couple who knew each other very well. Also, the "high tech" light switch required a key card to operate the electricity including the Air conditioner. That means the AC is not running while the guest is gone, so every night one returns to a very hot room and can't leave if they want to AC to run.

This hotel is clean, smart and perfectly situated for exploring the centre of Valencia old town. However, the breakfast room is rather spartan as is the bar/lounge and there are no restaurant facilities. It is definitely not a "cosy" hotel. The family room we occupied was very cramped when the bunk beds were in use and the (non-lockable) glass door to the en suite was a source of great amusement to my children.

Hotel a little hard to find, no parking. Desk staff not particularly helpful and breakfast facility too small for number of guests. However the hotel is very clean and modern located in a great base spot for touring Valencia. With better directions to find it would be a big help fortunately a Spanish policemen came to our assistance. I would certainly use the hotel again as good value for money.

website details very misleading. The retaurant did not seem to exist. During my five day stay I never saw a meal being served or advertised. The restauarnt seemed to be the breakfast area in the lobby. A coffee bar amounted to three stools parked against a "bar", six feet from doors which opened straight onto the street. The bar, although advertised as one of the facilities, was not open in the evenings!!!! All very misleading and disappointing.

We arrived at 2pm to be told that our room was not ready and that we must come back in an hour. More than an hour later the room was still not ready so we waited in the lobby for a further half an hour and then were given our room card. The room we entered was filthy, unmade and clearly nothing had been done since we arrived. At reception they were full of appologies and immediately gave us another room that had been evidently ready all the time! The room itself was fine but the beds are very hard (our tolerence level was low by this time). The room was on the 4th floor on the side of the street, which was a narrow and quiet street during the day and evening but by midnight the bar opposite the hotel got into full swing and the boom, boom, boom of the music made sleep impossible until it stopped after 2.30am; this is every night, you are warned. At reception complaints about this are met with a shrug of the shoulders. Last but not least, there was a smell of sewage throughout the hotel, this smell was noticable in other buildings in old Valencia so it was probably not the fault of the hotel but nonetheless it got right up your nose and was unpleasent. All in all a great shame as the property is nice and the location is great but the service, the noise and the smell made it not the place to stay. We have used Venere before (they are great!)and this is the first time that the hotel does not live up to expectations.
