We would not have chosen to visit Florence in July/August as we find Italy too hot at this time of year but our visit was to attend a family wedding. The apartment that we stayed in at the Palazzo Alfani al David had air conditioning in the bedroom, lounge-dining area and kitchen - without it the heat in the rooms would have been unbearable. The kitchen is adequate for preparing simple meals and there is a mini-market in the street outside. We used public transport and most destinations in the city can be reached from the Piazza San Marco at the end of the street. There are many places to eat close at hand. Our apartment at the rear of the building overlooked a small shared garden (not accessible) and was very quiet. We would definitely stay there again.

Staying in an apartment with 2 young children was ideal. It was beautifully decorated and spacious, very central, across the road from the David and close to restaurants. The owner, Francesca couldn't have been more helpful, she even got us tickets to see the David so that we didn't have to queue. I would stay here again!

A fantastic apartment right in the centre of things. If you are travelling with children you can't beat this place. There is enough space for everyone at rates that are comparable to a mid-range hotel. The apartments are centrally located directly across the street from Academia. Our kids particularly enjoyed hanging out the window watching the street scenes. There is also a large market on the same street so it is very easy to stock the apartment with whatever you need for your stay. Immaculately clean and your host both owns and lives in the building. She is incredibly welcoming and helfpul in every respect. Thanks for a great trip to Florence.

This was our first visit to Florence (and in fact to Italy), and we would certainly stay again at the Palazzo Alfani if we came back. Francesca was very welcoming and friendly, and conveniently she speaks good English! The apartment was excellent value for money - far larger than if we'd paid the same amount for a hotel room. Our room was on the garden side, and with the windows closed the city noise was inaudible. It does get a bit mental out front, so I imagine the street-facing rooms would not be quite so peaceful. Tastefully decorated, with some nice pieces of antique furniture; decent aircon; widescreen TV, if you really want to watch Italian TV; kitchen has basic equipment, fine for preparing some pasta or something. The apartment is within easy reach of all of the city centre attractions - the Duomo is about 5 minutes' walk. There is an excellent ice cream & granita shop - Gelaterie Carabe - 2 minutes down the road. Don't be taken in by the flashier, double-the-price places closer to the Duomo! Also recommended - the Mercato Centrale for your food shopping, and Frescobaldi (just off Piazza Signoria) for dinner. An excellent alternative to the touristy crap just around the corner. So all in all, we'd highly recommend Palazzo Alfani!

Franceseca, the owner, was most welcoming and helpful and we were grateful that our late arrival was not a problem and that she allowed us access to the flat on our exit day because no immediate arrival of guests. The low grade for competence of employees is given because we found a pair of used ladies pants on the sitting room floor! I imagine a slip-up as the appartment was otherwise very clean and beatifully decorated and furnished and wouldn't want to put anyone off by having mentioned it. Our general experience was very comfortable, though a kettle or small pan for making tea would have been helpful for us English guests. I would also have liked an iron and ironing board though I'm sure if we'd asked it would not have been a problem. Going out of the front door in the morning was quirky with people crowding the exit and the street - the Academia entrance is opposite. Front rooms may be noisy during the day but by evening and night the street returns to a quiet backwater in the heart of a very busy city. A short walk to the bottom of the street and you are at the duomo. Owners recommendations of restaurants were good for us too. I didn't see a book for comments and tips by guests in the appartment but have found such very helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this appartment and would choose to book it again.

Wondeful time here. Queues at the museum are noisy but you can request a room facing the courtyard plus you shouldn't be sleeping in late as there are so many things to see in Florence!

I have been to Florence many times and Palazzo Alfani al David was by far my best experience. The apartment was immaculate, roomy, nicely decorated and very home-like. The high-speed internet access was incredibly fast and hooked up so easily. My room looked out on a beautiful courtyard. They thought of all the little things to make a stay fabulous. There was even water and soda in the refrigerator! Francesca was wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful. I would definitely return.

Very nicely appointed place to stay in Florence. It is not a cheap place Florence. The apartment was recently fitted out and was in a good location. The hostess Francesca was very friendly and helpful. The only glitch we had was trying to find the place as Italy has two sets of street numbers, one in red for businesses and the same numbers in red for residential. It was totally confusing trying to find the place. The grocery store two doors along on the same side of the street is extremely handy in helping to keep costs down in this pricey city. Also I thought the 30 Euros a day valet parking was very steep. We had no other option but to use it as we wanted our car parked safely. Would definitely ask for a courtyard side room as it is very quiet and good for sleeping. Overall we would stay again if we go to Florence.

if you are lucky enough to discover + experience the incomparable palazzo alfani as we did, you will then understand my awe at what the alfani's have contributed to in creating one of the most beautiful accomodations i have had the pleasure of luxuriating + residing in during our stay in firenze...it is just that lovely and then some! francesca (the gracious proprietress) was ever accomodating (excellent suggestions/making dinner ressies + taxi's + overall helpful info)...it is as good as it gets! i was almost hesitant to let people in on this treasure we (and the many lucky guest that have had the pleasure!) of discovering in fear of not being able to get in the next time we venture to florence...but check it out for yourself...(without exageration) it is a most splendidly wonderful place to stay!

Very nicely decorated rooms on first floor. Large living room, bedroom and bathroom. Right opposite the Academia so easy to check when queues are low from your window. Only 5 mins walk from the Duomo and 2 mins from taxi rank and buses at Piazza St. Marco. Helpful and friendly owner who goes out of her way to make you welcome and offers advice if needed.

Francesca and her husband were very welcoming, and went out of their way to help us when we arrived earlier than check-in. The "room" is an entire apartment that is magnificent - directly across the street from David! ') Absolutely fantastic people, room, location and experience!

Beautifully restored apartment, nicely decorated bedroom and bathroom, very good location across the academy and close to all places. Ms Alfani welcomed us like friends, her advice was perfect, she booked restaurant for us and helped us getting around. When we forgot clothes in the closet she even sent it to Germany in no time.

We loved our stay. Francesca is a delightful host. The rooms (apartments, really) are huge and she has put a great deal of effort into furnishing and decorating them. Linens are high quality. Rooms along the street can get a bit noisy (you're right across the street from the entrance to the Accademia). The rooms over the garden are very quiet. The price was excellent in relation to the quality. Highly recommended.

I would (and will)recommend Palazzo Alfani to anyone who is happy to climb a few stairs to their room. Great location within Florence - near enough to the sights to pop for a lunchtime doze but quiet (certainly at the rear). Supermarket, shops and restaurants 50- 100 metres. Rooms spotless and well modernised. Good bathroom and kitchen. Francesca couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.

We love the apartment. Beautiful and right in front of the Academia, but once you are inside the apt you can't hear anything going on outside, so quiet. Francesca Alfani is very nice, helpful and friendly. Location is great, you can walk pretty much anywhere. We will stay there again. Wonderful Place. Love it !!

Only noisy because our room overlooked the queues for the Accademie Museum. Started around 8.00 am. But as it was double glazed, so didn't disturb our sleep at all. Highly recommended.
