Very well located and the room was of a good size, bigger than usually found. Breakfast was also good and the staff was friendly and helpful. Of course you can find a cheaper option in the same area, but the overall quality compensated. I would recommend and stay there again.

The Hotel Basilea is the perfect hotel for a short stay. My room (a single room) was very clean and stocked with the necessary amenities (shampoo, soap, lotion, shower cap, etc). My room was quite small, but enough of what I needed. If you enjoy space, this may not be the hotel for you. The bathroom was clean, with a standing shower only. The bed was much more comfortable than it looked, the bedding was warm, good for winter when I was traveling, and I slept very well (the room was very quiet as it was towards the back of the hotel). Warning, for those of you who like to travel with loads of stuff, be sure to ask for a room with a closet. Given I was on holiday for 4 days, I didn’t have many things with me, so lack of a closet wasn’t a problem. There is some space to hang clothes and stack some sweaters. The breakfast room was decent, nothing to write home about. The hotel has wireless Internet, but the signal in my hotel room was weak; so you may end up logging on to the Internet in the lobby. The location of the hotel is absolutely fantastic. It’s close walk to the train station, close to the river Limat, the main shopping street, the Old Town, cute bars and restaurants, and a Starbucks for those of you who need their coffee fix!

Great location in a quiet street in the old town, an easy walk from the railway station. Breakfast included in room price (food OK, but coffee awful). Staff extremely helpful, and I was allowed to check in several hours early. Room looked very clean, but there was a slight smell of urine in the bathroom (as I was only staying one night I didn't complain, but I'm sure if I had I would have been moved to another room). I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

A single room is very small, even for European hotels. A double looks much more comfortable, from what I could see walking by as the maids cleaned, but the price was substantially higher for a double.
I felt somewhat claustrophic in the room so opened the window to let in air, which works well except that the neighborhood nearby has a lot of bars and one cannot sleep with the window open, even on a weeknight. So my strategy was to leave the window open all day and shut it just as I went to sleep.
The continental breakfast room is the most spacious room in the hotel and the service there prompt and pleasant, so that made up for a fair amount.
Also, the hotel is in a very convenient location - it is a short walk to the main train terminal and an even shorter walk to a tram station that serves about five tram lines. One can also walk fairly easily to the main tourist sites in Zurich.
A friend stayed at the Best Western property north of town (across from Milchbuck tram station) and that seemed much nicer - rooms not as small, much quieter neighborhood, and spacious lobby. It may not be in the thick of the tourist area, but that is probably a plus unless you plan to party all night (the trams stop running a little after midnight)

Pro: L'Hotel e pulito, luminoso e funzionale. Il rapporto prezzo/qualità è buono.
Contro: L'Hotel si trova nel quartiere più animato della città. Nel weekend il rumore nelle strade è inevitabile.

Swiss hotels are expensive anyway, and the 20 CHF added as tax to the price quoted (no mention of tax to be added) on the website at the time of booking was an unwelcome surprise.
The single room was very small, but the bed was very comfy, bathroom very clean, with a power shower. My main gripe is that the alarm call I set on the phone never went off, so I overslept by an hour and had to grab breakfast in a bag on the way out. Alarms on the TV have never let me down, but only the phone option was available at Basilea.
