LOCATION

Ventotene Island, residue of an ancient volcano, is less than three kilometres long. Pandataria , as the island was anciently called, was chosen at the end of the First century b.C. by the emperor August as a golden exile for his daughter Giulia, who was confined for her immoral behaviour. The imperial villa, the method of collection and distribution of rain-water, the harbour dug out in tufa, a jewel which is still intact, authentic masterpiece of the engineering of that period, are only a few examples ofthe beauty of Ventotene. Today we can also admire: the eel-ponds, the fish-ponds, the salt-cellars, the necropolis of Calabattaglia and the museum where we can find the beauty of the submarine archaelogical richness of Ventotene. The uncontaminated and deep sea, rich of permanent fauna, offers an ideal habitat for the reproduction of innumerable species of fish and for the transit of crowds of cetacean such as dolphins, whales and sperm whales.
