It would have been nice to have a screen on one window in the room so a window could be left open without allowing flying critters in the room. The breakfast was very nice but maybe part of that area could be made into a lounge area so during the day someone could enjoy a bottle of wine in a relaxing environment.

Would reccommend this hotel to friends if they wanted a good location at a reasonable rate but aren't bothered about the small rooms ( you spend most of the day out and about in Venice anyway!).

We had a little difficulty finding the hotel. Staff was on phone, and we had to interrupt him to check in. Although room was clean and neat, there was no view. When opened window there was a sewer smell outside. Shower handle was weakly held together with no outer cover, couldn't operate,so didn't take a shower, but, later desk person demonstrated that it worked. Since we paid "discounted rate" of E 80. I guess it was adequate, but wouldn't stay there again.

The hotel was clean a quiet, however I felt that as a single traveller I was stuck in the tiniest windowless room they had available. Also the bathroom had no separate shower and you had to shower with the toilet - I wouldn't have minded this - I've had European apartments with bathrooms like this before - however the shower curtain was filthy! The hotel was ok - the location was excellent and there were beautiful Murano glass chandeliers in the rooms. It just would have been nice if the bathroom was better than hostel quality. If you go as a single traveller - ask for a room with a normal sized window!

Ideally placed for our visit to Venice, this was a pleasant and welcoming hotel. Price seemed reasonable given general rates, and staff were most helpful for example letting us leave luggage at the hotel before check-in and after check-out. Good breakfast, and several good restaurants nearby for evening meals. We will certainly choose this hotel again when we next visit this lovely city, and would gladly recommend it to others. As it is tucked away, our room didn't have a view, but that was fine: the location was peaceful.

Venice is remarkable but the small streets make it difficult to get a quick orientation so having a precise map of how to get to the hotel would save a lot of time and effort. The hotel is delightful and the staff, especially Raoul, couldn't be better. Raoul made our stay in Venice exceptional and I would definitely recommend you stay here. Thanks.

The location is very nice, it says San Marco on the site but actually it's closer to the Accademia. The rooms are neat, although the water system in the shower seems weird. But the "internet in every room" that the site boasts actually means that there is a phone, and you can try and use dial-up in case you do have an Italian dial-up contract. Which you almost certainly don't. Still, if you travel for pleasure and not for business you won't care about the internet at all.

The hotel employees were very kind and ready to help you when asked, I think this is the most positive point. About the room, nothing to complain except that it is a little bit small and we expected also a better bathroom. That is why it is expensive, but after all quite reasonable for an hotel in the center of Venice (we have given a "5" for quality vs price).

Service is just excellent, warm and very familiar. Attention is so good it makes up for the little handicaps. We stayed at four different hotels during our trip to Italy, and this was by far the best -you'll especially appreciate breakfast, after days of only eating cold stuff you'll find one including scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and we also tried the "panacotta", a traditional italian dessert. Congratulations to Valerio! He's always willing to make your stay more comfortable and to help in every possible way. About getting there... be sure to follow the directions given at san giorgo's website. Very straight-forwarded.

An excellent value for the location. Difficult to find but right next door to The Fortuny Museum so ask for that if you need directions. Our bedroom was lovely but the bathroom was TINY and the shower door came off. Very nice breakfast. They will make you eggs and bacon or susage as you like plus a breakfast bar. Beware there are alot of stairs to climb and no elevator.

Excellent hotel, not far from San Angelo vaporetto stop (might be worth referencing the route from the stop to the hotel on your website!). Very helpful staff. Hotel has good Venice map (essential for finding way around). Refrigerator in room allowed us to keep water bottles cold (valuable during summer visits). Short walk to La Fenice and san Marco. Staff bent over backwards to be helpful-at breakfast, "Can I make you some eggs and bacon?".

I was there in early Dec. and there were many remains of long-dead mosquitos still smashed on the ceiling of the room apparently caused by previous occupants. That was gross! It would seem that the mosquitos can be quite a menace during the warmer months, and it did not seem the hotel had any air conditioning. An egg-based breakfast was cooked to order by the proprietor, and was well done.

This is an ideal hotel for exploring Venice, just a few minutes walk from all main tourist areas,& the waterbus stops. The staff were very helpful, giving good advice to get the best out of our stay. Breakfasts excellent. The big drawback was it was so cold, with heating being timed to go on at 8 pm & off before 9 am. The rooms were freezing! HOTEL PLEASE NOTE, our stay was spoilt by being so cold in the hotel, a shame, as everything else is fine. Please have heat in the winter!

This is a small, but welcoming hotel in a very convenient part of Venice. The staff were extremely friendly, and made our stay most enjoyable. I would reccommend viewing their website www.venice-hotel.sangiorgiovenice.com to get a map of where to find them. We arrived in the very early hours and phoned them, and were collected from the Sant’Angelo landing station. Once at the hotel, ask for their map of the area, very useful.

The rooms looked nice, the basic furniture war good, but the hotel was baldly maintained. E.G. No hot water. One bathroom had no shower cabin but only a very norrow space seperated with a curtain clinging to the skin when the shower was in use. After that the whole bathroom was soaked. Using the toilet meant having the feet in water.the fittings were loose and wobbling. Second room: the windows in the room andthe bath could not properly be closed, so that a permanent bad smell a canal could not be kept put of the room. After one night we quit and moved to a better hotel. with 3 stars. Same price but very well kept. and prettier rooms.

Chose the San Giorgio based on feedback from other visitors. Was not disappointed. Excellent location for the first time visitor (or any other) to Venice. All the major sites are within easy walking distance and there are good, reasonably priced restaurants on the doorstep. One minor negative was that when we visited at the end of September it was still hot and humid but the air conditioning was not working!! This led to us leaving the windows open at night with the result that both my wife and I provided the local mosquitos with several good meals. Whatever the season, I would recommend taking a plug-in mosquito zapper - we forgot ours. Also the map provided on the website is not very detailed - I bought the AA guide to Venice and this allowed me to find the location much easier after landing at the San Angelo vaporetto stop.

Although I double checked with the hotel that the rooms were air conditioned, on arrival I was told that, even though it was over 90 degrees farenheit, there would be no air conditioning because it was after August 31. Period. My very uncomfortably small room was unbearably hot and humid, and since I had to keep window open, FILLED with mosquitos. There was no separate shower, just a drain on the bathroom floor, so everything got wet when I showered, and it only added to the humidity in the room. In over a hundred hotel stays in Italy in the last eleven years, I think this was the most uncomfortable, and with one of the most unpleasant women I've ever encountered at reception. Incidentally, Venice continues to be my favorite city in the world.

This hotel is hard to find. A water taxi can drop you off about 100M away (couple of blocks). THe hotel is in a great location, short walking distance to San Marco Sqaure, Rialto Bridge, and Acadmeia Bridge. For the price in Venice you can't beat it. However, the pictures on the website don't really tell the story. When we got to the hotel, we were surprised at the outside. The outside looks like crap. The lobby is very small. The rooms were clean but small. We would stay here again, but maybe not for a long stay. Also, there is not an elevator. The person who checked us in spoke excellent English. I still think for the location you can't beat this price in Venice. We had people stay by the airport for more than what we stayed here for.

We were VERY pleased with our stay at the San Giorgio. The staff were quite pleasant and accomodating. Breakfast was nice. The room was lovely. Just like what was on the website. It was conveniently located (however, I wouldn't walk it again pulling luggage from the bus station. I would stongly suggest using the water bus and getting off at the recommended stop given by the hotel). As we were there in May, it happened to be rather warm. There was sort of air conditioning available for the room which stated this was an extra charge but I am not sure that we got charged for it. We left the window open (there was not much noise at all from the alley below) and it did cool down in the evening. The bathroom was really, really small and could have done with a redo. Even with the small quirks we have recommended the San Georgio to friends who were traveling to Venice and would definetly stay again ourselves.

The location was really great because it was only a few steps away from the waterbus, the Rialto bridge, and San Marco's Basilica. The rooms were pretty spacious, especially for a hotel in Venice. The front desk managers were really nice and helpful. I'd definitely book this place again.

This hotel is well located in a quiet side alley only a short walk to Rialto, San Marco and Accademia. The room was clean and of good size for Venice and nicely done up, the bathroom was compact but fully equiped. The staff spoke good English and were very friendly. The breakfast was typical buffet style with the standard breads, jams, meats and fried eggs. The only problem I encountered was the pigeons! My room's window (19) opened into a tiny courtyard area behind the main stairs were pigeons slept. Cooing and flapping during the night is louder than you think, so either close the window or be prepared to be woken at dawn!

This hotel is in a brilliant location only 5/10mins walk from St Marks Square in one direction and the Rialto Bridge in another. One word of warning though if you are arriving late at night like we did make sure you have good directions or you will never find it. The rooms are a little small but the padded walls make up for that! The staff could not help us enough. Breakfast was the best out of the 4 hotels we stayed in in Italy and one of those was a 4 star! We both agreed that we would definitely stay there again. Only one tiny complaint - our room overlooked the alleyway (not strange in Venice) but on arrival in room and throwing windows open the first thing we saw was a rat running from the rubbish bags on the street below! Nothing to do with this hotel though but the building opposite.

Generally nice hotel according to my expectations for two stars. Location was excellent. For people who don't want to put all the money into the hotell, but rather spend the money on activities making your holiday a memorable experience, this is a good choice. The San Giorgio is a nice hotel near a Vaparetto stop once you figure out the maze that is Venice. Our room was quite small but clean. The front desk very friendly and spoke good English. The bathroom had the smallest shower ever, but I learned that's par for the course in Italy. Bring mosquito spray if you open the windows. Don't expect a view, there is none. Beds were pretty hard, but again expected in Italy. I think I would skip the breakfast- typical Italian fare and not sure it's worth getting up early for. A good economy hotel for the price and I'd stay there again if I was doing a cheapie trip to ITaly.

We found the San Giorgio a freindly and helpful small hotel well located but difficult to find at first. This is due to the nature of venice itself. There are lots of little bridges to cross and twists and turns to master even though the distance is short. The hotel is located equal distance (500metres)between San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. The most nearby vapparetto stop is S Angelo some 200 metres walk.. Ask for directions in any hotel if lost. as we did. We enjoyed the cooked breakfast over the mostly continental breakfasts we found in the same star ratings. The shower space was a tight squeeze contradicting the generous basin size. The bed comfortable. Cafes and resturants are a close walk.. We found it easy get to the S Anglelo vapperetto stop and take the Vaperetto to San Marco and catch the San Marco to Aeroporto vapperetto to the airport. About 1.5 hours total. We were happy with our stay in this hotel.

I only have 2 complaints: 1) the location of the hotel itself is not bad, it's just not clearly indicated on the website or maps. The only address I got was 3781 San Marco - well, there is a street named San Marco, so I assumed this was the location. Not so - in this case, the address refers to the entire area (near P. San Marco). The hotel is a good 15-20 min walk from P. San Marco. It is actually closer to Campo San Angelo. Anyway - the Accademia stop on the valporetto is closer. Call ahead for exact directions. 2) the mosquitos. I realize this a Venice-wide problem given, well, all the water. But my room was infested with them. I spent a good 20 minutes the first night waging my own private little war against them. I won, but not before leaving the walls and ceilings smeared with their remains... gross, I know, but true. However, once I did the initial purification, I had no problems - I did not have one single bite. Otherwise - the hotel was great. The staff was incredibly friendly and the breakfasts were very filling (eggs to order plus the usual breads, croissants, yogurts, etc). Overall, very good. I recommend - just study a map on the ride over and bring mosquito repellent.

Although the hotel is in need of redecoration, the friendliness and service offered more than made up for this. Excellent breakfast - choice of eggs "as you like it", which was better than other 3 star hotels we stayed in Florence and Rome. The worst point was the shower curtain in the small bathroom.

This two star hotel was a bit of a disappointment at first. Location was great but the rooms were small and cramped - especially the double with one small window in the corner. The triple was a little small but generally OK. The double shower was between the toilet and the sink and consisted of a drain in the floor with a shower curtain which had to be pulled around it most of the way. The accommodations were clean and the hotel was well kept. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good - you could get bacon and eggs too. The last morning we left an early wake-up call for early so we could catch a train. When we went to check out, we found out that the staff had prepared a "take out" breakfast for each of us to enjoy. Talk about service! While the room size etc. might cause some concern, because of the way we were treated by the staff, I might actually consider staying there again.

On the basis that Venice is a very expensive place to stay, if you want to keep the price down but stay in an OK hotel then this will do nicely. It is tucked away just off one of the shopping thoroughfares, 10/15 minutes walk to all central places but very quiet. It is enclosed by other buildings on all sides so don't expect any views. Staff were very friendly and helpful - including getting us a water taxi at a nearby jetty for our return to the airport - no carting heavy bags through lots of narrow walkways. Basic, but very clean & friendly.

Hotel is charming and small & location is EXCELLENT. Staff is extremely friendly & helpful. Room was beautiful little jewlbox of a space (upholstered walls & Murano glass lighting fixtures). Bathroom wasn't so great, but bedroom made up for it. Also, water wasn't very hot for showers & sulpher odor seemed to emanate from bathroom (I assumed it was just part of being in an ancient water-logged city). The San Giorgio is fantastic value for money and the staff are incredibly helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, we asked for extra pillows and blankets and they were there instantly. As other travellers have commented, the breakfast is more than the standard continental, you are also offered omelettes, scrambled egg and bacon and crepes - or all of the above! This hotel is very central but on a quiet street. We spotted some of the other hotels we had considered but could imagine being disturbed by local bars and restaurants. Thanks again to the lovely Valerio and his staff and the deliciously fat cat Poldo!

Very friendly staff. Rooms quite baroque in appearance (which fitted in with Venice's overall character). This is a nice hotel, well located and reasonably priced for Venice. We stayed here based on other users' reviews and we were not disappointed. The breakfast is adequate, but you get offered a cooked breakfast as well, which is unusual for most major European cities. The rather large cat named Poldo didn't make an appearance but was brought down by a member of staff. Needless to say, he was not best pleased! Would definitely stay in this hotel again and it comes highly recommended.

The single room was small but the central location made up for this.To locate the hotel you need a good map although it was only a very short walk from Sant,Angelo vaporetto stop. There was scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast which was a treat. The owners were lovely and I would recommend this hotel if you like to be centrally located in a quiet spot.

Excellent breakfast and front desk staff. Room was too small for 3 people; shower was very small & curtain inadequate. One very happy, friendly, helpful man staffed the front desk and he was terrific. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel.

We were not familiar with Venice, but were able to find the hotel, at night, with the help of people on the street. We were greeted with enthusiasm and offers of any help we might need. The breakfast offerings were exceptional and the service good. We were then given help (including a map) in touring the city on foot. I will recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice.

The location of this hotel was perfect for us since we were there less than 24 hours. As with others, we had difficulty finding the hotel but Valerio was in the street waiting for us. He was great. Told us about great places to eat with food that teenagers would eat.Breakfast was great. They actually offered eggs and bacon. Bathroom was a problem. Very wet. Weird shower. Room was rather small, but clean and what we expect in Europe. We would definitely stay here again because of the location.

This short break was booked as a surprise for my husband's birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Venice. The trip was made more pleasurable by the convenience and standard of our hotel booked through yourselves. I will have no hesitation in recommending Venere to friends and family in the future. Thank you.

Venice hotels are expensive. This one is not inexpensive, however, it offers a good value in terms of location, quietness, room decoration and comfort as well as staff friendliness.

The San Giorgio is a great hotel with extremely friendly staff and excellent service. We stayed in the room shown on the website (No 26)and it was really quiet. The breakfast was also really good and we saw the black and white cat that another reviewer mentioned. I would go back.

The hotel was very difficult to find, but once we'd found it, it was excellent. The staff, especially the owner, were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and the food good.

We enjoyed 3 nights in Venice at the end of November. We could not have asked for more genial hosts, all the staff were extremely helpful and their restaurant recommendations were excellent. Breakfast was very good with many choices. The rooms were compact but well appointed and very clean. The showers were a little quirky and took a bit of getting used to. I would recommend this hotel as exceptional value for money in an expensive city.

A really nice hotel in a great location. A short walk from the San Angelo vaporetto stop and Piazza San Marco. Helpful, friendly staff and a good breakfast. There was a bit of "acqua alta" (high water) while I was there and the staff gave excellent advise on how to not get wet. I would definitely stay there again.

The least expensive place that I stayed during my trip to Italy, and the most enjoyable. Wonderful friendly service, wonderful breakfast. I highly recommend this hotel.

For a "2 star" hotel,it really was good value for money, I have stayed in worse 3 star.Location isn,t bad at all, just to the back of St Marks Square behind one of the theatres, although situated on a v quiet street, if sign not lit up you could miss it. Staff v helpful and friendly would stay again, room v venetian, relatively spacious and v clean.Needed to use an internet connection, and staff allowed me to use the front desk internet connection, again really really helpful. It was a flying visit, we are getting married next year and staying at a four star hotel in Venice, but if I wanted a cheap break, would stay at the San giorgio every time.Hotels can be really really difficult to find in Venice,so if you like Venice and go again, I personally would suggest that you stay at the smae hotel so you do not have to waste time finding your hotel. The street numbers in Venice are v v erratic, and have no logic to them at all, so you may not necesarily be in the area you want to be!! Overall,San Giorgio Hotel was excellent value for money.
