HOTEL OVERVIEW

Hotel La Locanda di Orsaria Venice - Venere.com lobby La Locanda di Orsaria is a small and cosy hotel, located in a building dating back to the 16th century, in a secluded and silent calle, adjacent to the Lista di Spagna - the main street of Venice, which is crowded with people and stores of every kind.

In the lobby there is a computer with Internet access, subject to charge.

General map

One of the hotel's strong points is the short distance from the railway station (a 2 minutes' walk) and from the car park of Tronchetto and Piazzale Roma (an 8 minute walk). Consequently all problems for luggage transport are greatly reduced.

Even though it lies close to the city access points, the hotel is already in the heart of Venice. The area is called Cannaregio - a lively, colorful and fascinating town district, which has kept the best of the authentic Venetian characteristics.

The first Ghetto in Europe with its sinagogues, the Madonna dell'Orto church, Riva della Misericordia and the stunning views on the Northern Lagoon, are only a few of the wonders to discover, taking a walk along the canals of this little known, but charming part of the city.

GUEST ROOMS

A super location with the train station being just down the block, and a short walk to all the common areas. The owner goes above and beyond the call of duty to please everyone at breakfast, which we thought was plentiful compared with other hotels we've stayed at in Italy. It's super clean and comfortable. It's also in a quiet location which was much appreciated after noisy tourist interactions. Enjoy!

This hotel was in a very convenient location for the train station, as well as being close to the lively area surrounding the Ferrovia bridge. Our room was very comfortable, with windows overlooking a neighbouring garden - so very quiet also. The only thing I didn't like was a very limited selection at breakfast - but what there was was tasty and the service good. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a perfect small hotel for a short stay in Venice. We had 2 families with 4 kids ranging from 8 to 16. The family room was more spacious than we expected, but the bathrooom was small. Very manageable, though. The hotel is very close to the train station, 10 minute walk or 1 vaparetto stop from the bus station. We recommend the vaparetto since there are some bridges you have to walk over. If you are exhausted and it's hot, it's a lot of extra work. We walked and we were sorry. Great location if you are going on a cruise. Super cappaccinos in the morning and a great European breakfast. The owner makes a great hot chocolate for the kids, too. It was perfect for our family. Great email correspondence with the staff and they spoke very good english. A little pricey, but then everything's that way with the horrible exchange rate right now. We didn't let that ruin our trip, though. We would recommend this hotel to friends, most definitely.

Great location if you are arriving by train--2 minute walk. Very nice area for shopping and restaurants and just strolling. Handy for the cruise ship terminal, too A short walk--over 3 bridges--or 1 stop on the vaporetto to the free shuttle that takes you to the ships. Very welcoming hotel, nice choice at breakfast including wonderful cappuccino!I will stay there again. There is no elevator so you do have to carry your luggage up the stairs!!

The hotel was quite nice, in a very good location for those traveling with luggage. Please note the hotel has no elevator- so pack light..Staff is very friendly. Price is very reasonable for staying in Venice. Would recommend take the Water Taxi throughtout Venice - very easy to travel on and off. The Vaperetto is right down the alley from Hotel. Many restaurants to choice from with the Area of Hotel.

We had a delightful stay at "La Locanda di Orsaria". The hotel is conveniently located very close to both the train station and the airport bus terminal. A vaporeto stop is almost in front of it. The room was clean, spacious and quiet (we had been given an upgrade we had not even asked for). Everybody was very friendly. The breakfast was quite nice. For all of this, the price was very reasonable if one considers Venice hotel prices in general.

The hotel was adequate and reasonably priced for Venice. The location of the hotel was right around the corner from the train station down an alley. There was a vaperetto stop near, which was convenient because it is quite a walk to the San Marco area. The room was older. The common area, including breakfast room, was small. The worst thing about this hotel is the beds. They are very hard. The air conditioning did not work wonderfully but it was cool enough to open the windows. However, you cannot open the windows at night because it is too noisy. For the price we paid, it was ok. I would stay again if I were ever in Venice again; however, I would only visit for a day since there are SO many other more beautiful places to see in Italy.

Reynaldo, the proprietor, serves up cappucino, tea, and hot chocolate every morning to accompany cereals, yogurts, meat/cheese, and a variety of pastries. He and his staff also deliver good humor in English, as well as good advice about visiting Venice as they live just down the street. This old building has modern electrical services and bathrooms, although the bathroom was small. You may purchase access to WIFI for 15 Euros for 24 hours of access. We would return to this hotel which is the first street to the left as you leave the train station. You can walk any direction to find a restaurant next to a canal.

This was my first rip to Venice. I selected the hotel based on location and was totally satisfied. The hotel is down a quiet narrow walkway, less than 2 minutes to a main vaporetta stop, giving access to all of Venice. The room, while small, was comfortable, clean and welcoming. The bathroom had a shower, sink, toilet and bidet and plenty of towels. The breakfast was substantial and included capuchini - delicious! The desk folk were helpful with directions and suggestions for events. I would definitely stay here again.

This tiny hotel was absolutely fantastic. They upgraded us to a superior room because we were on our honeymoon, and it was an incredible space. Huge room, massive bathroom, beautiful writing desk, safe in room, and a huge, very comfy bed. There was no elevator so it was a bit of a hike to the top floor with our luggage, but we managed. The breakfast room is tiny but cute and the pastries were very fresh. Coffee was excellent, and the staff were very pleasant. Hotel is nice and close to the train station - even closer than we thought - which is great. There's a vaporetto stop 2 minutes away so you're never that far from anything. We loved this hotel and would recommend it to anyone travelling to Venice.

We were upgraded to a superior double room for our stay in Venice, at no cost to us. The room was great, comfortable and clean. Spacious, given the limitations of Venice. Some minor drain noise in the walls and the heater was a little difficult to manage. Staff were a little hit and miss. The manager was excellent (although his meal recommendations were a little hit and miss), the night staff are pretty much only there to mind the door. Breakfast was excellent, with one of the best hot chocolates that I had throughout Italy. The food selection was pretty good as well. Internet access, which was listed on the site, is only available during normal hours, when the regular staff are on, not during the night shifts. It's also a very old machine, which was a bit limited (didn't recognise USB storage devices) Great location, very close to the train station, but not affected by any noise. Also near the main terminal for the vaporetti (water taxis)

The website is very accurate for the rooms pictures -- they are bland. The hotel provides conveniences like a safe in the room, fluffy towels, very clean room, good air conditioning, that make it a good 3 star hotel. Venice is expensive, but the hotel offers very reasonable prices, and is lcose to the train station, so lugging heavy baggage is not an issue. But it's proximity to the station means a longer commute to St. Mark's Square if you want to walk. ALternatively, you can buy an unlimited boat ticket (24 hours).

Our triple room on the 2nd floor is pretty good. Spacious, bright and clean. However, my parents' standard double room on the ground floor isn't as great. In our opinion the important thing in Venice is to be in a hotel near a vaporetto and to find a place that you can carry your luggage to without strain. Since we came in by train we were able to walk the 400 feet (5 minutes) to our hotel. We had no bridges to cross either. The people at the desk were always very helpful. They knew alot about venice and were able to point us into the direction of a less touristy area. They were able to provide us with information regarding events in venice. They also have internet acess in the Lobby. The room was on the second floor which appears nicer then the first. The hotel does not have an elevator. Our room had a marble bathroom that was spacious. The room itself have beautiful fabric covered walls and amazing venetian fixtures. We had a desk, Mini bar and safe. Breakfast included Breads, cornettes, cereal, fruit juice, coffee, yogurt, Cheeses and Pates. It was always consistantly good. Since we needed to leave early they did make us Coffee and gave us a cornette to take with us. It was very easy to get to Marco Polo airport from Venice as well. We took the vaporetto one stop then took a bus to the airport. I would stay here again in a heartbeat...

Delightful hotel, very close to the station- easy to get to the hotel-no struggle with bags up and down steps. The staff were fantastic. Hearing the church bells in the morning was a very pleasant way to wake up. Beds were comfortable and bathroom facilities we very good. They make a very nice capuccino also.

Pequeño hotel muy bien situado, limpio y comodo. Problema con la campana de una iglesia cercana que te despertaba a la 7h15 a.m

The rooms were wonderful, especially when we had to find the hotel down a rather narrow alley and were very skeptical. The rooms were spacious and clean and had a reasonable view out over other buildings. The breakfast was adequate in a cramped little area downstairs, but don't take the advice of the concierge for a nice restaurant to eat at - his suggestion proved very disappointing!

The hotel was well situated and quiet with comfortable rooms and very helpful staff. The breakfast was also good. A problem with the shower in the room was sorted out immediately. In all a much better experience than expected. We would stay there again.

The room was fine and the staff was very nice. The only negative comment was that they had little dining space and made us order breakfast the night before and eat in our room. The room was really too small for this and it made it hard to get extra jelly, coffee, etc. They indicated they were expanding their dining space, which will be much better.

Excellent location for those coming by train, so close we nearly missed it. Friendly owner who greets you every morning. Brilliant strong showers. Only problem was the church bells at 8am.

A very friendly and welcoming hotel. They gave us good advice on what to do and where to go in Venice. We had a superior room which was excellent, very clean, relaxing and quite spacious. The breakfasts were moderate, but as we were in Venice, we really didn't care. Overall the price is competitive and certainly good value for Venice. I would stay here again and more importantly, so would my girlfirend!

We had a very nice stay in this hotel. Reception very welcoming and helpful, deluxe rooms fantastic (new decoration), poor breakfast. Location is very convenient to explore Venice. Good price for this city, we would go back there.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, always available to help. Rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast is a treat! Best of all is the location of this hotel - right beside the railway station and Ferrovia water terminal.

Location near the train station and grand canal water taxi is very convenient. Only set of real plush towels that we had in Italy. Very friendly front staff.

The hotel is in a wonderful location with easy access to the vaporetto and the bus terminal. The people were very kind and helpful and friendly. The cold breakfast was perfect and the coffee excellent. It has no elevator which is only a problem on arrival and departure. Very quiet and very clean.

We were very pleased with our choice, the room having a large modern shower, location a short walk from train station, and the friendliness of staff and owner.A nice start to our Italian 40th wedding anniversary vacation!

just 2 minutes walk from the station, very nice, very clean hotel in a quiet location, we got upgraded to a superior double room which was extremely quiet and wonderfully bright. B/fast is continental with wonderful pastry. The location is excellent, as right next to the station and immediate access to the vaporettos. It surpassed our expectations and we will definitely stay there again if we return to venice.

Service and cleanliness are more than excellent. One problem for elder generation is that there not having a lift to go up onto the 2nd floor. But still we are satisfied.

Location is excellent--only a 5-min walk from the Ferrovia (train AND vaporetto stop). The hotel is in a dark, narrow alley, although it did not seem too dangerous even at night, and obviously not during the day. Staff is friendly; breakfast acceptable. Room is small but typical of European rooms; bathroom is clean and relatively spacious--although I think the shower head could've been installed at the length end of the cubicle rather than the width end, so that my back & elbows don't bump onto the screen door that easily! Price--it was the cheapest I could find at the moment, given the convenient location we desired (and IT'S Venice we're talking about). But it's still hard not to make the unfair comparison to the 3-star I stayed in Florence (which I highly recommend), because it was so much nicer, newer, better--and ALL this for less! In general, this hotel is not a bad choice at all. But i felt lucky that we stayed on the G/F and had no big luggage. The passage and, as I glanced, the stiars were pretty narrow (I suppose they also have rooms on 2nd floor since the light-filled room I saw on the website wasn't the "gloomy" one I got!), so moving up narrow stairs w/[big] luggage--you go figure. Btw this is a late review; i travelled during Dec 29-31, 04.

Very good location, friendly staff, great shower, clean facilities, average breakfast. The only downside for us was being put on the ground floor and being promised quiet but instead being woken up every morning as the breakfast was served from 7:30 - almost right outside our door. If you go I would rather stay upstairs!
