The Mercure Tours Centre is basically a good, clean and comfortable hotel. The staff were mainly polite but did seem rather bemused by the whole hotel thing. The public rooms are practically non-existant and since the area around the hotel leaves a little to be desired this meant a bit of a hike into town to get a coffee. Breakfast was a hap-hazard affair - what was on offer depended on how many had arrived before you. On the second morning the young lady on duty, Ines, was very loathe to replenish eggs etc. even though there was another hour till the end of breakfast. When you're paying 12 euros a head you expect to have a full choice. I found the "take or leave it" attitude a little annoying.

This was by far the largest hotel room I have ever had in Europe, and everything was clean and functional. The hotel is immediately next to the train tracks. There are two levels of windows, so you don't hear the trains, but you do hear all kinds of odd noises from within the hotel. Also, while there is air conditioning, it is either off or on, and when on, is at a level that was warmer than I would have liked.

We(me and my son) went down to the Loire Valley to visit the castles. We booked the hotel for 3 nights. Welcoming could have been better. It took them some time to find our reservation. Reception was in general not very helpful. Their English was very basic.
Be aware the price quote does not include local taxes.
The hotel is located next the railway track, in one of the main streets of Tours.
The common areas of the hotel were not very well maintained, were dirty and worn out. Breakfast areas were small and breakfast was reasonable to poor, fairly acceptable though.
The room was OK, big enough; bath and toilet were small but acceptable and all were clean and tidy. WIFI worked properly (an asset to the hotel)
Parking facilities were good, although the entrance in the hotel parking was aprox. 300 m from the hotel.
Overall I got less than I expected. Compare this Mercure hotel with the one in Bruxelles and than you understand what I mean.
The closest restaurant it's in the railway station area which is 10 minutes of walking distance. The city itself proved not to be my cup of tea so if I ever go for a tour of the castles again I would probably choose Amboise or Blois for a stay.

The staff at this hotel were very helpful & welcoming. The location is unfortunate - next to the rail station. However, the double glazed windows meant the station noises were not discernible.
The staff at the hotel extended our bookings at the internet price which was great for us.
I didn't think the breakfast was very good value but everything else was good.
Tours is an interesting town to visit - in the midst of a beautiful region. The old town where the restaurants are located is a 15 minute walk from the hotel.
