We spent two nights in October 2007. The rooms are spacious, old worlde - and the hotel is right across the road from the main station in Tours.
The only problem was that the walls are thin and with large rooms with high ceilings, the rooms can be a bit noisy.

Hotel was wonderfully located next to the rail station, yet no noise from it. Also, there was a bus station in front, so transportation was very close. Our room was large, actually more like a suite and very clean. My only negative comment on this hotel was the breakfast..we only ate items that were individually wrapped due to the large number of fruit flies on the food. We bought most of our food at a grocery store that was only a few doors away. We would stay here again.

This hotel may have been "grand" at some point, but I suspect that it was in the 1930's.
Was it the crumbling tile floors in the foyer? The marble staircase that once had carpets? The scary cage like lift? The tiny room, furnished from the '50s by an existentialist?
Perhaps. however I did enjoy the novelty factor.
Those with cars, BEWARE. The hotel does not have its own parking, as advertised, but the receptionist is happy to point you to an adjacent public underground car park, by the train station. There is little security there and I was relieved to find my car in one piece the next morning! The hotel does pay for the space, though.
All in all an experience and eating out in Tours was a pleasure.

This hotel suffers from the 3 D's: Dark, Dingy and Dreary. It is an old hotel in need of a much need face lift. Web site states rooms are sound proofed which they are not (could hear person in next room snoring), lobby picutre on web site is not realistic, and parking is in a public garage across the street. Due to location, across the street from train station, there were a lot of drunks and beggers in the area. Would not recommend.

The rooms decor was very tired and in need of updating, saying this they were clean and tidy. Our room as situated above the busy street corner but with the windows shut (our room had air conditioning) we could not hear anything from outside. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.
I thought that the breakfast was over priced for what you got, but there were plenty of other places to grab breakfast in the area.
I would stay in this hotel again, ideal location for tourists.

The hotel was okay for the price I paid, however, the view was appalling (a brick wall), there were no tea and coffee facilities until I requested them and the room was very small. The service was very good by the staff and the location was good regarding the city location, rather than in front of a train station. The lift was broken on at least one occasion and we were on the 4th floor.

I was pleasantly surprised about the room. It was very spacious and had a very nice bathroom. Although the hotel is located right by the train station, the room was very quiet. The only drawback about the location were some homeless people lingering around near the hotel entrance. The room service was very good and the staff curteous. I would definitely stay there again. It is not easy to find a nice spacious family room for a family of 4.

Room was minuscule and poorly decorated. Bathroom phone-box size. The following day we move to different room, equally tiny but larger bathroom. When we paid the bill, receipt showed prize as quoted on website (80 Euros) included breakfast (at 8 Euros p.p.p.n), although website (Venere) claimed it was not included, so we didn't have it, but we still had to pay for it. The original price for room only would have been 62 Euros, not 80 Euros. The hotel on the whole was dissapointing and in need of thorough renovation. The only good thing about it was it's location

Location very central so convenient for sightseeing, transport and tourist office.
A problem occurred with the plumbing in our room (no cold water), but it was dealt with efficiently and we were moved to a new room.

The Hotel is in an excellent strategic position. The ambient is really good, as the services and the employees. They have been magic days in Tours. All was perfect. Everything all right but for a room neighbour who snoored really loud...

Very close to train station. Difficult to find a place to eat breakfast on civic holidays. Uncomfortable with lack of security with regard to our baggage. The lobby had the cleanest washroom I have seen in France.

Le Grand Hotel has an excellent location in Tours--literally 100 feet from the train station. The breakfast was excellent and included eggs. Service was fantastic! The reception staff went above and beyond to help us with rental bicycles, city maps, and other questions. The best we experienced in France. Room was okay. Bed wasn't the best--we kept sinking into the middle. Bathroom was okay, very clean, but shower hose only with tub. The facility is old, but comfortable. Some furnishings should be replaced (mattress).
