The staff was surly, the rooms spartan and unwelcoming. While this was obviously once a very nice property, it has not been maintained and if you looked into any corner you see broken plaster, tiles etc. I would not stay at this hotel again.

A 6 star view from the Bristol Park almost makes up for the 1 star maintenance and the 2 star service. The staff were well meaning, but quite incompetent and extremely inconsistent. Upon arrival we noticed a sign stating where and when breakfast, lunch and dinner would be served. Arriving at 12.45 for lunch(smack bang in the middle of the set time, the restaurant was empty - of both patrons and staff. Clearly no lunch there, so we checked with reception (who didn't know what was happening with the dining room, and was not interested in finding out) then directed us to the pool bar. Eventually a harried woman came along to take our order. We asked to look at the menu, but was told there was no menu, but we could have an omelet or an... omelet. OK, so no real need of a menu. The hotel's a bit of a tragedy really, because the building is magnificent, but it's been allowed to fall into such poor repair. Ditto gardens. The general standard of service was very high in Taormina, and this really highlighted the miriad shortcomings of the staff at the Bristol Park. To add insult to injury, or perhaps the other way around, the BP's was the only awful bed encountered in 6 hotels in Italy. But somehow, the view almost makes up for everything, at least it would if you were making it a very short stay. On another note, there's a restaurant just down the street (turn right from the exit) called Bouganville that is fabulous. The park across the street is beautiful - look for the old pet cemetary tombstones, they're quite unique. In short, loved Taormina, hated the people that have allowed the hotel (and service) to decay to such an appalling level. Incidentally, at every hotel we booked through Venere (except this one)our room was upgraded and we were treated like royalty. Yippee

We had a lovely time in Taoromina, but the Bristol Park gives the impression of having been a 5 star hotel 20 years ago, now down to 4 and heading to 3.
The decor and interior of the hotel were quite nice but suffering from a lack of maintenance. The interior lighting was also in a state of disrepair.
The staff were generally friendly, but disorganized. The attention to detail and effort was not that of a top class hotel in a major resort city.
The main selling point is the location and views provided, which are some of the best in the world.
Overall, for the traveller that doesn't mind having to look after themselves a little bit should find the Bristol Park a very suitable choice, but those that expect a hotel willing to go the extra mile for a special stay may find it disappointing.
