Cannot really add much to the good things that have already been said about this hotel and we endorse them all. What we can add is that we arrived home feeling relaxed and refreshed after our stay there so La Vue d'Or must take credit in helping us to achieve that. Even the mechanical problems with the shuttle bus did nothing to spoil our holiday as the hotel pulled out all the stops, including family members and staff using their own cars, to ensure that guests were not inconvenienced. This was just one example of the high standard of friendly service we experienced during our stay.
It was our first stay at this particular hotel, we have visited the area for over 20 years, and we hope not the last.

We spent a great 7 nights here. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very nice hotel kept absolutely spotless. Bar and food prices very reasonable. There is a free shuttle bus to and from Sorrento which runs more or less throughout the day and evening. Poolside is nice and simple and plenty of Brits stay here. We made loads of friends. We had a car so went off to Amalfi coast and Vesuvius/Herculaneum, which, by the way, is better tham Pompei for ruins. You can do all these by public transport so a car isn't really necessary especially as you can't park in Sorrento. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay at the Hotel Vue D'Or again with no misgivings. Views were amazing from our balcony (room 355), rooms could be cooler(even with A/C) but it wasn't a problem as they gave us a fan. Well recommended and away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento although it's nice to go there to eat in the evenings and catch the shuttle back at 10.30pm. Careful though if you've got kids as the bus gets busy and you may have to wait 20 mins for the second run getting you back to the hotel at 11.15pm.

We all loved this hotel although it was farther from Sorrento than we expected. The shuttle bus was very convenient though, and it was well located to use the local bus to see Positano and Amalfi.Dinner in the restaraunt was a fixed price four course meal which didn't work well for our family, but breakfast was great. We really enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool one afternoon!
The staff was great.

Very nice hotel, close from Sorrento and well located to visit the various and famous destinations of Amalfitana coast like Ravello, Positano, Amalfi and Capri but also Pompei and Vesuvio.
We recommend "la Marina del Cantone" and its beach for sun and sea bath and its restaurant "la taverna del capitano " to enjoy a romantic dinner .

Very nice hotel. High on a hillside, fantastic views. Private bus in to town worked very well. 15 minute ride. Staff very friendly. Moderately sized room with nice bathroom. Typical European breakfast, good selection and quality. Very peaceful and quiet with roosters crowing in the morning. Well worth the cost. We would stay there again.

A very pleasant and comfortable hotel, which would have been even more enjoyable if the weather had been warmer and we had been able to enjoy the lovely pool area. We took some other reviewer's advice and paid extra to have a room with a view--and we were glad we did. The breakfast and the room it is served in were both exceptionally nice. Other travellers suggested that we were best to eat dinner out as the hotel's food was bland, so we took their advice. I would suggest that you ask the hotel for good in-town restauarants. We didn't and wished we had. The shuttle bus was hugely helpful. For those travelling by car, as we were, the map was inadequate. Be sure to get specific directions as to where to turn right to go up the hill, and how many kilometres it is from that turn off. (Without the latter you might think you had made a mistake as it was a very long way!)Again for those with a car, the hotel has its own very convenient parking lot. Ask for directions if you plan to drive down the Amalfi Coast.

If you use public transportation in and around Sorrento make sure you ask for detailed information, sometimes even the locals will give you a vague response.
Otherwise it was great from beginning to the end.

Sorrento was crowded with traffic comparable to a busy city. In contrast however this hotel was a quiet oasis of calm on the mountain above town. Staff were friendly & helpful, a credit to hotel. "Sea view" was a glimpse from side of balcony but view of mountains & town below were fantastic. Breakfast fairly standard but very acceptable, I wouldn`t however recommend the evening meal. Overall we felt we`d made an excellent choice of hotel. Driving in Italy? Don`t even go there!!!!!! Use shuttle bus

Our second visit to this warm and friendly, family-run hotel. We weren't disappointed. The staff even recognised us from last year although they must see many thousands of people per year. Personally, I am not a huge fan of Sorrento itself but I have no doubt we will return to La Vue D'or again, probably for a short visit to round off our holiday as we did this year from Puglia. We recognised a couple from our first visit and they said that they had been visiting the hotel for 20 years - not a bad testimonial. The view from the hotel terrace is simply stunning and if you are lucky enough to get a sea-view room then you will awaken to a backdrop befitting some romantic Hollywood movie, probably starring Sophia Loren and Gregory Peck!! The staff are outstanding, with particular praise going to the head waiter Bartolo and chief barman Angelo. Down side? Well you are probably a bit far out if you prefer the hustle and bustle of the town, but friends to whom we recommended the hotel earlier this year said that this wasn't a problem for them and they ate out every evening.

Gorgeous views. Spacious rooms. Very nice pool. Even nicer hotel than it was shown to be on website. Was difficult to access the first time from the train station. It is far from the city and the shuttle bus was sometimes very crowded. Air conditioner broke one very hot evening. However, even with a few difficulties, the hotel was beautiful; the rooms were spacious, for European style; decks and lobby were very inviting; bathrooms were clean and modern: the view was breathtaking. The sea-view room with balcony is definitely worth the extra cost and we would recommend it to others.

This hotel appears to be catered towards an older crowd. My friends and I are in our early thirties-so we felt like we didn't quite fit in. If you are planning to visit surrounding areas-the location is very inconvenient. The hotel overall was pleasant and clean.

Good location, great views. Hotel bus to town worked well.
Also used public bus which was good but busy.
We wanted to be away from town in a quieter location and this was great for that.
Pool good but have to be quiet in afternoon.

The view is outstanding. The facilities are just as described. The service is good. The pool was clean. It would be nice if they had cable with a few English speaking channels for the kids. Breakfast above average compared to other places we stayed. The local bus is very convienient. We used it to get to town on several occaisions. We had trouble getting back on the local bus because the drop off place (the train station) and the pick up place (the street behind and above the train station)are in 2 different locations (as best we can tell). The hotal shuttle drops you off at the edge of town far from the train station but close to shopping). You would never find the pick up place unless you had been dropped off there at least once. A map of excatly where the pick up place in town is located would be a good addtition the the web site and the hotel info sheet. We took the bus from the hotel to Positano and it worked out great and was only about 3.80 Euro.We took the boat back and it drops you off in the center of Sorrento and you get a great view of the coast. Cabs are expensive (35 Euro) from town to hotel so the shuttle and local bus are a cheap solution and run regularly.

Very nice and calm structure with a beautiful view on the Sorrentina Coast. Free shuttle service as an excellent idea to avoid the use of the car in Sorrento and the problems linked to traffic and car parks. Nevertheless, the price is quite expensive regarding the services provided (refering to the restaurant in HB for instance:tiny portions and no real specialities from southern Italy: when visiting a country we expect to eat local food and Italy is not only "pasta"). Service all orientated to anglo saxon speakers, even for people not being native, not English speakers but trying to speak italian!!!
A calm structure intending to remain as it is, more frequentated by senior couple than by families with children (which means possible noise especially when playing in a swimming pool).

From the moment we arrived we knew we had chosen a lovely hotel, what with the staff at reception who were friendly and helpful, the staff in the restaurant likewise. We cannot fault the hotel at all, great value for money, book a room with a sea view across the bay; it is well worth the extra. Hope to stay there again. Recommended to our friends..

Very pleased with the hotel facilities. Very clean and comfortable. Used the complimentary bus service which was very useful. The only down part was the last day when leaving at 7.30am the bus was going to the station with 6 passengers and luggage. We wanted to catch the same train from Sorrento station to Naples for our connection to Rome but was told the bus had been booked and there was no room available. As we were waiting at the bus stop the 19 seater bus went past with obvious room for us and our luggage. The driver could have been more friendly.

It was the first time we had booked a holiday by using the internet and we were worried if the hotel would live up to the expectations on the web site. But,the actual hotel lived up to and beyond our expectations. Whilst the hotel is a little way out of town (25 euros in a taxi), the scenery and the general feel of the place is very relaxing and very welcoming. There is a bus provided by the hotel which takes you to the centre of Sorrento, but be careful it is very punctual and will not wait even a few minutes, but if you do miss it there are plenty public buses that run past the hotel(only 1 euro). The staff at the hotel were brilliant and assisted with information whenever asked. We stayed in one night for a meal in the hotel which was not particulary inspired and a bit expensive, but, there are plenty of places to eat in Sorrento.
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone who wants to get away from the hussle and bussle of the town, but also be within 10 minutes of it. However, if you want to be able to walk into the town from the hotel forget it.
I would go back to this hotel again, but next time I would spend a little more time lazing around on the patio enjoying the view overlooking the bay.

This hotel is located in the hills above Sorrento. We enjoyed fabulous views in a quiet setting. The room was very clean and modern. The staff was helpful and friendly. The bus to Positano and Amalfi runs right by the hotel. Our only issue was the need to drive or take the bus down to Sorrento for dinner. The hotel provides a price fixe menu that I would pass on if you have other options.

A calm and pleasant stay, with a very friendly and wellcoming attitude among the staff. The public areas indoors are large and pleasant. Nice room with an exellent view over the mountains and the bay. Shuttle bus service is good. We would appreciate if it had been poosible to get a more simple alternative to the complete dinner that is served in the evenings. Our overall impression of this hotel is very good.

Very nice Hotel. Extremely nice view, terasse/patio and pool. We had a very small room in the new section of the hotel. Flat screen tv on wall. Very nice cold breakfast in the dining room. Bar/lunch and diner available. Big private parking. (I wouldn't return to Sorrento with a car). City bus and hotel shuttle available to downtown, more convenient than car. Excellent suggestions of visits by employees. Possibility to visit Vesuvio and Pompei by train in 1 day. We would return any time!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay at La Vue d'Or. The entire staff was excellent. The front desk was very helpful with directions for our daily excursions along the Amalfi coast and different locales in the area. The view from our 4th floor balcony room was terrific. Thanks to all.

A very good little hotel high in the hills above Sorrento. Catering towards the English market, the rooms were clean and the bathrooms spotless. We had a large balcony overlooking the front with magnificent views. The hotel shuttle bus is excellent and always on time. Peak bus times are the 9am and 9:30am down to Sorrento and the 17.30pm, 19.30pm and 21.00pm back to the hotel but we never had any problems getting a seat. On one occasion we caught the local bus from a stop just down the road - 1 euro pp and you get the tickets from the hotel and stamp them in the machine as you board the bus. I liked the fact that the hotel was away from the hustle and noise of Sorrento but it only took 10 mins to get there. Breakfast was adequate, the coffee was excellant. We ate dinner once in the hotel [served from 7pm to 8:30pm] and when we went down at 8 a few of the selections had already gone, but the lamb chops I had were excellant. On many other reviews I have read how difficult it is to find the hotel - well - go straight through Sorrento. At certain times of the day you are not able to drive down the main shopping street; if this is the case then turn left and follow this road until you rejoin the sea. Just past the Hotel Cavour there is a junction with lots of white road markings. The main road bends round to the right - take the road that goes straight on - and follow this for 4miles until you reach Don Pedros restaurant - the hotel is just past here. We ate in Don Pedros - very good but quite expensive.

A really lovely Hotel, I'm not sure but I think the hotel must have been just redecorated, everything was very clean and new looking. At first glance from the outside the Hotel does not look anything special, but once inside you change your opinion. Fabulous views and the free mini bus down to town is really handy, the restaurant is fair but not outstanding, but with so many places to eat in town and with the free bus for a lift your better off eating in town.

We drove from Naples airport and at one point thought we may have got lost as the hotel is actually about 15 minutes outside of Sorrento, however the journey was worthwile.
The hotel is set on the hillside, with fantastic views over the bay, and mountains. The hotel was very clean and modern, and the staff helpful and friendly, plus you could always get a spot by the pool. The only downside was the food. The breakfast choice was limited, and the one dinner we had, as we stayed on B&B basis, was not very appealing.
Sorrento is marvellous, and there are many good restaurants (the Lanterna Due is the best). The hotel offers a free daily shuttle bus, which is great if you don't want to drive all the time.
We will definately return, both to the area, and the hotel.

A warm welcome, well run family hotel, facilities exactly as described. All employees were extremely helpful.
The only constructive comment we have is that it would be better if an additional bus service to the town was arranged at 10.30 am to allow the later attendees at breakfast to access the town.

We had a very pleasant stay here. When we arrived they had a vacancy in one of the more expensive rooms with a lovely balcony and they upgraded us for free for our first night which was lovely! The views are truly spectacular and it is just so peaceful. Sorrento is lovely but when you come to this hotel you can escape from it all.
The breakfasts are very generous, there was a buffet with juices, bread and crossiants, yoghurts, cereals, selection of cheese and cold meats and coffees. The second morning we did have to wait a long time for our coffee but only because the waiters were so busy. We ate there one evening also,3 courses for 20 euros, the food wasn't fabulous though, but the service was excellent so it made up for it. There is a lovely resstaurant down the road which we ate on the second night, the fish there is fabulous.
The hotel is very spacious and the pool area is lovely and clean. I would reccomend anyone staying here, truly relaxing and amazing views. We really did enjoy it and would definitely return again.

La Vue D'Or was superb. The photos on Venere do not do justice to the view from the terraces. It is stunning and covers the whole of the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius as a magnificent backdrop. No need for a sea view room in my opinion as little time is spent in the room itself. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. We stayed on a half board basis and found the food to be excellent and plentiful. The waiters, Bartolo and Tonino couldn't have been more accommodating, even to those that wouldn't even attempt a little Italian. They spoke good English, but were more than happy to humour me in my butchery of their mother tongue. One criticism is that the directions on the site are very poor. We came down from Florence by car and it was more by luck than judgement that we found the hotel. It is a good 5km outside Sorrento up in the hills. The hotel shuttle bus was very reliable and we used public transport a lot. However, although everyone got onto the bus while we were there, I could envisage a situation where the bus was over-subscribed and a taxi to/from town was 35 Euros. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it.

this place is beautiful. Roberto was wonderful, a great host and concierge. The shuttle is definitely necessary, Sorrento is at the bottom, La Vue at the top of a small mountain top. Get a balcony room, it is worth it. Wish the shuttle would have run past 11:30 PM, Sorrento is a great town for doing things at night.

What a fabulous family run hotel. The holiday was quiet and restful with not too much noise within the confines of the hotel. The service was exceptional and the food in the restaurant so delicious and very reasonable. Our sea facing room had the most amazing view over Sorrento and the sea towards Vesuvius. The bus which goes to and from the hotel is really handy and we only once needed to use public transport (which is very cheap anyway and only a few metres down the road). It was great being up in the mountains where the temperature was a bit cooler and from a review on this website I knew to ask for a fan as the airconditioning was being repaired in the room. Altogether a wonderful experience and I would definately go again.
