This was a great hotel. It was located just down the path to the water. There you could experience the local life and pick up a panini at the store. We were only a 10 min walk from the heart of Sorrento. Close enough to visit, yet far enough not to be bothered by the traffic noise. The entire hotel is wireless ... are real bonus with older kids. It was fully renovated only 2 years ago. It was the hotel my kids loved the most. I would definitely recommend.

I reserved a room with balcony, but it didn't occur to me that room without the balcony is more expensive (we wanted to change from the noisy street side to the quiet side and and wanted to have the sea view). This should be mentioned at the website - so wouldn't have too high expectetations.

Hotel room was first class. Beautiful painted tiles on walls and floors. a few restaurants within a couple of minutes walking distance. tattoria emilia was a little disappointing. you can find better food at restaurants in town. best of all was the walk through the fishing village to the town center-- the back alleys were simply charming. first of all, it is a living fishing village, i.e. people live and go to work, etc. at every corner, you come across religious shrines. the walk is very pleasant and not tedious at all. i would stay at Hotel Del Mare just to do the walk to the town center!

Great service, hotel, facilities, full breakfast, great expresso. Nice surroundings near the beach. Long walk to town center, nice walk (not for cardiacs or high BP). Bus available every hour. Small family rooms, great for doubles.

1. The photo of the lounge chairs on the deck is what convinced us on line to book this particular hotel - the chairs were put away for our stay and not available when requested.
2. The hotel was so delightful - we had booked for one night, stayed for 3 - only problem was that the last 2 nights were at a higher rate than expected, but the hotel and employees and good breakfast were too good to move.
3. Your Venere services could have done a better job at giving us directions (we were driving a car) to find the hotel; had to stop and ask and make several wrong turns.

SUPER VALUE HOTEL IN QUIET LOCATION. THOUGH SMALL, OUR ROOM HAD A GREAT BED, SEA VIEW AND A FEW NICE TOUCHES. V. HELPFUL, FRIENDLY STAFF WHO SPOKE GOOD ENGLISH. EXCELLENT BUFFET BREAKFAST IN THE INTERESTING RENOVATED CELLAR.
THE HOTEL'S LOCATION,MARINA GRANDE (THE SMALL HARBOUR!), PROVED A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO FIND AT NIGHT IN THE MARCH DRIZZLE; FROM THE STATION WALK DOWNHILL AND TURN LEFT (EAST). AFTER 400M OR SO BY THE ESSO GARAGE GO DOWN SOME STEPS TO THE RIGHT TO MEET THE ROAD THAT GOES UNDER THE BRIDGE. GO THROUGH THE TUNNEL AND THE YELLOW HOTEL CAN BE SEEN IN FRONT OF YOU. THERE ARE SOME STEPS INTO TOWN WHICH ARE A MORE INTERESTING AND SHORTER ROUTE BUT ARE A BIT HARDER TO LOCATE ON ARRIVAL.
TRAVEL LIGHT AND USE THE EXCELLENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT NETWORK TO GET AROUND; THE CURRERI COACH (7 EUROS) FROM RIGHT OUTSIDE THE NAPLES AIRPORT ARRIVALS WAS DEAD EASY AND STOPS ON THE MAIN ROAD BELOW THE STATION IN SORRENTO - A 15 MIN WALK FROM THE HOTEL.
THE LOCAL BUSES TO MARINA GRANDE ARE EVERY HOUR OR SO - BUY TICKETS FROM SITA BUS AGENTS OR TOBACCONISTS AND VALIDATE THEM IN THE MACHINE ON THE BUS.
SEE POMPEII ETC FROM SORRENTO. AMALFI IS A 90 MIN BUS JOURNEY WHICH SOME MAY FIND SCARY AND/OR SICK INDUCING! BOATS ARE THE BEST WAY (THOUGH MORE EXPENSIVE) TO GET AROUND BUT MANY DO NOT RUN OUT OF SEASON OR IF THE SEA IS ROUGH.
AVOID DRIVING UNLESS YOU ARE A RICH, IMPERTURBABLE MASOCHIST. NAPLES AND SORRENTO ARE BUSY CITIES, OFTEN GRIDLOCKED. ROADS ARE V. NARROW, DRIVERS SUICIDAL AND PARKING EXTORTIONATE WHEN IT CAN BE FOUND.
THE AMALFI COAST IS MUCH PRETTIER AND MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE URBAN SPRAWL BETWEEN NAPLES AND SORRENTO. IF YOU ARE ON A TIGHT BUDGET, EATING OUT IS GENERALLY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN IN THE UK: STAY AT HOTEL DEL MARE!

I really enjoyed our stay here. On arrival we upgraded the room to one with a view on the top floor. Staff was very courteous and helped us with all of our requests. It's a bit far from the city center but we knew this before we got there. I would stay at Del Mare again.

The hotel is in an interesting part of Sorrento, near Marina Grande. It is a short walk to the water where there are some nice (if expensive) restaurants. The room was comfortable and clean with a view overlooking the water and Mt Vesuvius but I expected better. Breakfast was very good for a 3-star hotel.

Very friendly and helpful staff, our only bugbear was the location which was very difficult to find and meant you have to walk some distance back into the main centre of Sorrento. That's OK on the first day but after a few days heavy sightseeing, it became more of an issue. Flip side is that it is probably quieter than a more central hotel, so on balance probably a good choice for us!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days in Sorrento and at the Hotel del Mare. Although the rooms are small, the amenities and location more than made up for that. Breakfast was great, and the breakfast room was wonderful. Although the weather was not great, we did sit on the terrace, and enjoyed the view. Would definitely stay there again.

This property was nice, as was the staff, and the breakfast was one of the best we had in Italy. We were somewhat disappointed though due to the pictures we saw on the website. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it sounded like it was somewhat secluded and located right in/near the fishing village/marina. When we arrived, the staff told us that though we booked a "balcony" room, they thought we meant a "sea view room", which is what we meant. The website lists "balcony room" and is more expensive than the other rooms, so we assumed this one was the sea view room. It's not. Even so, they were very helpful and moved us into the seaview room.
It was a little disappointing because the hotel was located above a myriad of apartment buildings, so when you look out the window, you had a great view of Mt. Vesuvius across the bay, but not of the little fishing village.
Overall, I would stay here again for the staff and breakfast, but might consider another hotel if we were looking for better ambience. Hope this helps!!

The Del Mare is a very clean, very friendly place to stay. The location was perfect. Itis only a 10 minute walk to the town center, and around the corner from the hotel is the quaintest village I have ever seen. There are about 6 restaurants on the beach that served the freshest fish. (we tried four of the restaurants and all were very good) The breakfast was very good, the staff was friendly and went out of thier way when we needed assistance, and the roofdeck is a perfect place to sit and relax after a day of site seeing. I highly recommend the Del Mare for anyone looking for a quiet place to stay near on the outskirts of Sorrento. You are away from the busyness, but close enough to go whenever you want.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights. It was a lovely hotel, looked very inviting and has a lovely roof terrace. The double was a twin bed pushed together & the room & bathroom were very small. The stay was good apart from the noise level. We were awoken in the night afew times,by the sound of someone using the toilet in the other rooms.Walls were too thin for the stay to be peaceful.Beautiful location.

A very friendly welcome at an hotel which was ideally situated as far as we were concerned - away from the hubbub of the centre of Sorrento, but very close to the sea and to some excellent restaurants. The local bus service wto the centre of Sorrento was covenient and regular. a good breakfast was provided.

We had a great stay at the Del Mare. Friendly staff, clean room, great location. Air conditioner was a bit noisy, but not too bad. Breakfasts were very good.
We stayed in a room with a balcony and although you can't see the sea it is still a nice to have.
We had a 9 month old baby with us and the staff were very accomodating. In fact the Italians in gereral were amazing. All the restaurants in the Marina Grande were very welcoming, although Cataldo's did charge cover charge for her which we thought a bit of a cheek!
We would definitely go back to Sorrento and stay at the Del Mare again!

Unfortunately, the location of the hotel and the directions provided were absolutely shocking. Once we reached Sorrento it took us two hours to find the hotel and driving the streets elevated our stress levels to the extreme that we were traumatised by the time we finally found it. The concierge recommended a fantastic restaurant on the beach which took our mind off what we endured to actually get there. The breakfast was substantial and value for money. The hotel was in a great location but not recommended for those with disabilities as a reasonable climb uphill is required to get to the main centre of Sorrento. The bathroom and room were a reasonable size but did not meet our expectations for the rates we were paying.

Pleasant location near the beach, not exactly in Sorrento, which we expected and enjoyed. A nice uphill walk to town, but the local fishing village near the hotel was quite charming. We enjoyed the local culture, with church bells Sunday morning and colorful fishing boats around the corner. A few local restaurants were within walking distance on the local beach.
We did get bumped the first night to a hotel in Sorrento, probably overbooked, but were upgraded to a pleasant ocean view room for the inconvenience. It happens.

Hotel and staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. location was near marina. But Autobody shops were all around the hotel. I was charged for the stay in USD, causing a 2.5% rate conversion charge and a higher dollar amt. He should have asked if I wanted USD or Euro. Especially since it cost me more becasue he didn't ask. I latter saw on the receipt after signing that I was suppsoed to agree to the USD charge. This was the only place in Italy that did that to me.

This is THE location for Sorrento - a pleasant (uphill!) walk to the main part of town, but set in a quiet marina next to some terrific seafood restaurants. The primary drawback is the room size - these have to be the smallest hotel rooms I have ever seen. Still, the price/value ratio is not too bad, and the location can't be beat. Just be really organized if you stay here!

The hotel staff is friendly. Our room was small compared to American hotels, but about average for Italian hotels. The hotel is outside of the center part of town, but there is a bus that runs by the hotel. The hotel is also convenient to the port for trips to Capri.

We found the hotel to be very nice and well worth the money we spent. The staff was pleasant, helpful, and very accommodating and most spoke English. Our stay here was wonderful-we would definitely stay here again
We had a room with a balcony (street view) and we felt this was much more to our satisfaction than the window view of the sea overlooking other rooftops. The breaksfast was excellent with more than enough choices and again the staff was very nice.
We were however dissapointed in the surrounding properites, but the hotel itself was very clean, nice, comfortable, and a very short walk to the beach of the Marina Grande and local seaside restaurants.

We really enjoyed this hotel. We walked to it from the train station with our luggage, which we wouldn't have done again. It is much easier to take the Circumvesuvania bus from the train station to the hotel. It stops at the Marina Grande, which is right past the hotel. The bus leaves hourly at around 25 past the hour from the marina. We bought a Campania Arte card from the Naples airport American Express office that allowed us to ride the bus for three days with the use of the ticket. There is a market near the hotel that has food and deli meats/cheese. The breakfast at the hotel was the best we had in Italy. There was fruit, cereal, ham, cheese, pastries and hot drinks. The entire hotel was clean and newly renovated with majolica tiles everywhere. The hotel staff was excellent and the restaurant that Carmen's nephew runs is excellent. You can get free transport to/from the restaurant by asking the front desk. We loved the pizza, it was the best we had in all of Italy. You can walk to town from the hotel, though we preferred to ride the bus most days.

The furniture was modern, comfortable and nice.
The breakfast buffet was fantastic.
The draw-backs of our room (No. 107)were two things: It was at the back side of the building, 2nd floor - so it was rather dark and claustrophobic. And it was next to the lift, which you could hear all night long.

What a fantastic hotel. Very pleasant and helpful staff and we were very pleased with this hotel over all. It seemed to be more than a 3 star. The bus into Sorrento centre is only minutes from the hotel but when you get to be familiar with the location, it is a nice walk to and from the hotel. Ask the staff for directions. We had a very nice stay at this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it or return ourselves. The only downside is that the corridors are not carpeted and so suitcase noise can be heard and also guests walking along the corridors. Apart from that we had no complaints with this accommodation. Nice breakfast served in the breakfast room which is situated in the basement and is so unusual as one wall is part of the cliff face. This hotel exceeded our expectations and Tony's hot chocolate is to die for.

We absolutely loved our stay here! It was in the quieter area of town which made it feel more authentic. If you walk to the bottom of the hill a fabulous family owned restaurant awaits your tastebuds. An easy bus ride (offered twice an hour) leads you into town, or a wonderful walk through the village will get you there as well. This is a wonderful hotel! We wished we were there for longer then three nights!!!

Fabulous location! We loved being steps away from a traditional fishing village, and the route up old stone steps into town is charming. Breakfast is ample and fresh, served in a lower level room cut out of the cliff - fun! I would recommend this location to anyone who doesn't mind walking into town - especially when the walk is so enjoyable.

The hotel was a real surprise. Surprisingly good! It is easy to realise that the owners really think of the details and care about offering an international standard service. The location is quite good, very close to the Marina and a short walk from the harbor, from where you can reach Capri, Amalfi and Positano. The breakfast is very good, the room is very carefully furnished. The price/quality ratio was amazing. The employees, specially the one who welcomed us, Tonino, are very very capable, professional and available to help and inform us about whatever we needed.

The only complaint was that the room was in the basement. This should have probably been indicated in the booking email. There was a bit of noise in the morning as the kitchen was rigt beside our room. The room itself was really nice. It was clean. The room smelled moldy the first day and this was probably due to the fact that the room was in the basement. The staff was really helpful with help with town orientation.

Convenient location except difficult to find the first time by car. A bit out of the way, 15 minute safe walk to town centre but an interesting part of Sorrento. The Del Mare Hotel was an excellent choice. Located in a quiet area near the bay. The breakfasts were excellent. My only complaint was that we came in from Naples by ferry and did not know how to get to the hotel. We took a taxi which charged us extra because it was Sunday. The cost was 25 euros which is excess for a 2 mile trip. My suggestion is to hop on the bus to the main square and wait for a bus to the Grand Bay. (One every hour), or walk it is downhill from there. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Del Mare is a very nice, fresh and new looking hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. The complimentary breakfast was one of the best we had. The hotel doesn't overlook the Mediterranean but is within a few minutes walk of the bay and several good restaurants. Also, the local bus stop is also very close. Most of the other travelers at the hotel were German, a few French, all very pleasant.

We spent four nights in this hotel and paid the extra money for a view of the Bay of Naples looking over at Mt. Vesuvius. It was a great spot as you got to experience some authentic Italy in the fishing village and then within a ten minute walk up the steps you were in the more touristy Sorrento town. As with some of our other hotel experiences, we spent quite some time driving around looking for the hotel, which is a bit scary with all of the scooters on the road! To locate this hotel, as you travel along Corso Italia through Sorrento town, there is a left turn just before the small Esso garage - very easy to miss! Continue down this road to the fishing village.

Staff very friendly and helpful, especially night staff - good variety of foods for breakfast. The temperature in the room was easy to regulate with air conditioning and shutters. As the rooms are small we appreciated having a balcony.Easy to get to Sorrento either walking or on the bus which only cost 1 euro. Beautiful fishing village. We would recommend Bagni Sant'Anna for sunbathing and lunch and Trattoria Da Emilia and Z'Intonio Mare for evening meals. Would definitely stay there again.
