It is important to note that the hotels are a ten minute walk to the entrance to Sirmione. If you walk in the other direction there are a sprawl of hotels for 20 minutes and beyond. So this is as good a location as possible. The WEB directions to the hotel were very adequate. We took the bus from Pescheria railway station. The two hotels are on opposite sides of the street and not even directly across from each other. We stayed at the Smeraldo where there is never anyone at the front desk. The Smeraldo is set way back from the street and it is very quiet. Our rooms were on the first floor rear with a view of the Lake. Would recommend to friends.

Hotel staff very rude and unhelpful. The guests seemed to be a nuisance to them that they had to endure. There seems to be a price for everything. They charged a guest to fill his flask with hot water.
Meals, including breakfast, were average. Nothing to write home about.

If possibel, you should try to get rooms in La Paul (sister hotel), otherwise you always have to change location for breakfast. The staircase is very loud and due to the mosquitos you can't open the French window. Fly screens would be necessary. The view is beautiful. The position is ok. You can walk to every place in sirmione. The hotel is clean and the price ok.

Stayed one night at Smeraldo in May 2007. There was no one at the reception, for check-in/check-out/breakfast/anything you've got to walk to the sister hotel La Paul across the street - no prob. The room was large and objectively ok but inexplicably looked and felt less "cozy" than most hotel rooms we stayed in during this trip. Cool "designer" bathroom, a balcony. Everything very clean. Great buffet breakfast, even with some hot food, definitely the best we had during this longish trip. Nice, not very crammed (unusual for Italy :) private parking. No elevator!

The hotel lacked an elevator which made our luggage carry to third floor (the second floor in Europe)very burdensome. There was a jackhammer going most of the day in the building next door (hopefully only a temporary problem). Breakfast at the La Paul across the street was only fair with scrambled egds that were sometiems off color and cold. A geat location for accessing the old city on foot and a nice pool at the La Paul, their sister hotel. A good value.

Having made a reservation at the Smeraldo, we found, on arrival that we had been upgraded to the La Paul. This is a very pleasant hotel with generouly sized rooms. The rooms are simply, but attractively, fitted out in natural wood. The bathroom was modern and clean.
The location is perfect, on the shore of lake Garda and it is but a ten minute stroll to the historic centre of Sirmione with it's castle, Roman remains, shops and restaurants.
The receptionist on our arrival was extremely pleasant and friendly and was extremely helpful in reponding to all our queries concerning our stay in Sirmione.
Our only complaint was about the selection of food available for the dinner menu. Neither my partner nor myself regard horsemeat or eel with any relish whatsoever, as I suspect to be the case for many people. Unfortunately, these appeared as a constituent in several of the available dishes so that my partner, who also does not eat seafood, was able to choose only from the single steak dish. I should say that this was excellently prepared and the quantities quite adequate. I do not regard this as a major problem since there are many excellent restaurants in the town.
I would be happey to stay at this hotel again if I should visit Sirmione again in the future.

Not luxury accommodation but a good price for a single congress delegate. There were several large groups of people and obviously this hotel is good for groups. The welcome was warm and efficient and I thank the staff for their proffesionalism. Supper was excellent, the breakfast fare could be better. I arrived on the one day it snowed in Sirmione. The marble floor in my room was cold and the black decor too dark and the swimming pool is outdoors- none of this matters in good weather.

We had to check in at the hotel at the other side of the road. Facilities of the hotel are poor but the room was very nice and the location of the hotel makes up for these small discomforts! Just a 10 min. walk from the historical heart of sirmione. An ideal hotel for visiting the vilage and swining in the lake but not for spending the day at your hotel surrounded by comfort.

Smeraldo is an overflow building for another hotel across the street, where all services (including breakfast) are provided. The lobby is littered with service supplies and equipment and the atmosphere is a bit dingy. The location is excellent and the views of the lake are fine, but in all other ways, this is not a particularly good place to stay in Sirmione.

The Smeraldo is a separate building to to the La Paul hotel, but we had access to all of the hotel's facilities. We found the hotel's location very good, within a 10 minute walking distance to the castle and restaurants. We loved having access to Lake Garda form both buildings. Overall, a great place to explore the beautiful Lake Garda.

This was a great place in a charming and beautiful area. Our room had a balcony that overlooked Lake Garda....just great. The room was clean quiet and nicely decorated. The hotel is located on the road leading to the old section of Sirmione, but far enough away to avoid the tourist crowds and traffic. There was plenty of parking in a gated lot in front of the hotel and behind the hotel was a pool and the lake. I highly recommend this place. The price is exceptional for what you get.

Hotel is situated very nice at the shores of Lake Garda. Good for recreational purposes (hotel beaches). Good for sight-seeing of Sirmione. Ideal for children and accompanying parents. Good services in the restaurant. Friendly staff. But breakfast quality should be improved. Hotel rooms (Smeraldo) can be quite noisy, especially if the toilet flush in the neighbouring rooms are going to be used. Bus stop within walking distance. Historic center of Sirmione within walking distance. Plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes available there. In genaeral, a nice place to stay a few days or even longer. Can be recommended.

We had trouble checking in. There was no one at the Smeraldo registration desk and no sign telling us to go to the Hotel Paul across the street. We had to find guests in the yard who spoke English and ask for help. The room was noisy because we heard every time the upstairs people flushed, or used the shower. Odd.

We actually stayed at the hotel Paul across the street which is affiliated. Luckily I had read a venere.com review warning that reception for Smeraldo is at Paul, otherwise, I would have thought I arrived at an abbandoned hotel. I was very glad that our rooms were in the Paul and not the Smeraldo which seemed completely vacant. The rooms, the breakfats and the back garden on the lake were all lovely. Excellent quality for the price!

Very spacious rooms-more like a 2-bedroom flat! We stayed as a couple but our sleeping quarters would have accomodated a family of four or even two single travellers who didn't mind sharing a bathroom. Breakfast at La Paul was good- hot and cold buffet with wide choice and much better than we got in Venice. Being a dormitory of La Paul it was a bit impersonal. We arrived late at night but still got prompt and courteous service.

On arrival there was no one at the reception desk and no indication that we should go across the road to St Paul to get the key. When we eventually discovered what to do all we were given was the key, and then spent the next 24 hours trying to find out how the TV worked. We were not given a remote control with the key. They ran out of maps of the area at reception. The noise from the toilet in the next room can be intoeralbe if that person does not properly stop the flushing. Breakfats was not the best and noboby had a smile on there faces. End of season I suppose. I am sorry to say that we would not stay in that area again if we come back to Italy.

Decent hotel, great position. However, high maintenance breakfast (e.g. spend six minutes boiling your own eggs and then have them pinched by another guest!). Pool must be refrigerated as it is way too cold, much too cold for children (or adults for any length of time!). And we had some noise disturbance during the night from bathroom in next room (could be a one-off). Otherwise great - very clean and service was good.

Close to the historic center and main attractions.
Sirmione is a very nice place to stop by :)
Don't forget to take your bathing suit in the summer!
Smeraldo hotel: this place is run by the LaPaul Hotel across the road. You can get your key there first. (also a key for the parking on your side of the road)

Hotel was fine. We arrived late - 2300 - were given the keys to our rooms. Unfortunately one of the rooms proved to be occupied. However this problem was soon solved. Hotel is within a 5 minute walk of the mediaeval part of Sirmione and is very easy to find. In fact it is an annexe of the Hotel Paul on the opposite side of the road. Check-in happens there. There is no lift in The Smeraldo so if you are on the third floor plan to leave your big bags in the car (in the free car park). Breakfast was fine - continental only but plenty of choice. The swimming pool looked lovely - unfortunately we did not have a chance to use it on our short stay. Would definitely recommend
