It's the best place to stay in Siena, so close and so far from the centre, at the same time.
It gives a sense of staying in the countryside, with beautiful surroundigs and spectacular view. But is only a 15 minutes' walk from the centre of Siena, plus there's a bus for those who don't fancy walking.

We have now stayed at several hotels through Venere. This is one of my favorites, as I loved waking and going to sleep to the joy of birds rather than cars, of being surrounded by nature so close to the city gates.

OUR FAMILY OF FOUR STAYED AT PALAZZO DI VILLI MARCH 2008. WE WERE IN THEIR DOWNSTAIRS QUAD AND WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! THE BEDDING WAS OLD AND VERY DIRTY, THE PILLOWS WERE VERY HARD, NO BLANKETS ON THE 2 SINGLE BEDS FOR THE KIDS AND THE BATH TOWELS WERE AS THIN AS PAPER. WE WERE SO DISAPPOINTED AND THIS PUT A HUGE DAMPER ON OUR STAY IN SIENA.I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A ONE STAR.

The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the city,a nd a taxi-ride from the station. Our triple room was quaint and clean, with views across the Tuscan fields towards Siena. There is no restaurant in the hotel, and on the Sunday night, when we arrived, no restaurant open locally, but there are plenty of restaurants in Siena, all well worth the walk into the city. Siena is magical in every way, and this hotel an excellent base for seeing it. It is probably not convenient for the less than able-bodied, as it has steps up to it, but the staff were welcoming and helpful with luggage. Breakfast is basic, but you don't go to Siena for the breakfast. The hotel has no facilities, other than bed and breakfast and restful gardens and views, but that is all you need.

As I was spending a week studying in Siena the Palazzo di valli was very suitable. Nice relaxing walk into town about 15-20 minutes or a very accessable bus service, stopping just at the hotel road entrance. Very helpful staff, great internet access provided by staff on desk.
The setting outside the town wall in an olive grove was excellent.

Une excellente adresse : très calme, centre ville accessible à pied, vue magnifique, très bon service. J'avais lu que le petit déjeuner était le point faible, mais maintenant, il est tout à fait correct.

The owner a male sounded as if he not that concerned with guests but that was just his style. Spoke excellent english and was helpfull with answers to our questions. All other staff very helpfull. Close to the walled city. Request an upstairs room looking out across the countryside. Just fantastic in Oct 07.

We stayed at several hotels in Italy and the Palazzo di Valli was probably the nicest. The receptionist was very helpful and provided us with a free map of Pisa and told us about city parking and buses, but we decided to walk into the City Centre which took around 20-25 minutes. Our room was lovely and overlooked Sienna and the Tuscan Hills. We were very impressed by the painted ceiling. The bathroom was reasonably modern and had the bonus of under floor heating. The gardens and terrace were well maintained and it was lovely to come back from a day's sightseeing to the peace and tranquility of the Palazzo di Valli. We recommend the restaurant just across the road where we had a lovely meal at a reasonable price. Breakfast was not self-service and we were each given a large glass of juice a (rather too big & sweet) fresh custard filled croissant, a freshly made huge cappucino, yoghurt and plate of cheese and meat. We had read previous reviews about the difficulty of finding the hotel so we were on the look out for the entrance which was via a gate in a high wall and very narrow. Look out for the hotel name on a plaque on the wall.

We are an older married couple who felt very comfortable at this hotel. This was our first time visiting Italy and this hotel. It was located a short bus ride or good hike from the main center of Siena. The view of the countryside from our room was spectacular.

We stayed at the Palazzo di Valli for three nights. We used the bus for transportation when going into Florence which was a great recommendation from the staff. The breakfast was one of the best during our travels and the staff were always very accomodating.

The place exceeded our expectations, however we had a very difficult time finding it. There was another couple that also had a difficult time. Perhaps the verbal directions could be more clear? Also, probably the best cup of cappacino I've ever had.

Beautiful setting, and we certainly had "the room with a view". Riding the bus at night was a bit of an adventure (the bus driver drove way too fast for us to make out where to get off), but we managed alright. Staff were welcome and accomodating, and our stay was comfortable.

My wife and I and our two kids stayed in a quad for only one night. We would have liked to stay longer. Hotel was a little hard to find because it is hidden from the main road behind a court yard entrance. They have free parking which a plus since we were traveling by car. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Room was reasonable size in this converted house that is about 300 years old. Views of the Tuscan hills from the back patio and our room were beautiful. Getting into downtown, the options were either a bus, which did come frequently, or a long walk (15-20 minutes) to the edge of downtown. We opted to drive and park as close to downtown as possible. Breakfast was downstairs in a room with a view and was simple with no fruit or protein but their capucino was excellent. Recommended.

We just returned from Italy including 3 nights at Palazzo di Valli. Of the three hotels we stayed at during our trip this was our favorite. We had a triple room in this 300 year old palazzo. The price was exactly as quoted and a bargain for the location and quality. The room was large and had a very clean and modern bath. Very lovely grounds, small olive gardens, roses, benches to sit and take in the Tuscan sun. We were astounded when we opened the shutters on the windows to our room to see a view of the Tuscan country side that was right out of a travel magazine.Very large windows opened to a view of rolling hills, palazzos, churches, vineyards and olive groves.Very quiet and off the main rode location( on SR2 from Rome, 1000 M from Siena entrance). Hotel is small and we had the feeling we were staying at a friends country house.Breakfast consisted of large coffees, bread and rolls. Staff (all spoke English very well) was very helpful with directions etc. easy walk to Siena or there is a local bus right outside the gate.Have already recommended to several friends and would definately stay here again on a return trip.

This is a quaint little hotel, set in a lovely garden with the most awesome views from your bedroom window right over Tuscany. We were greeted by a very nice lady who was very helpful. The rooms are rather basic and the decor a little strange with painted ceilings on a grand scale.Breakfast was reasonable. The bus that takes you into Siena is just at the end of the drive and there is a nice restaurant just across the road.

We wanted to be in the country but also accessible to Siena, and this was perfect! It's a lovely old palazzo which has been divided into very spacious rooms. I requested a room with a view and what a view. The windows were open with the shutters closed when we arrived. Both the bedroom and bathroom (which was new and equally spacious) had spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside, with a view of Siena as well. It was an easy walk to the centrum, and there were buses as well. Also ample parking for rental cars. We used this as a hub for touring about Tuscany and Umbria. The staff were helpful with directions and the breakfast was nice. We would definately stay there again.

What a wonderful surprise! We loved it here... the staff is extremely helpful especially Gisella, Alexandra & Daisy... the setting is beautiful & the views are spectacular... an easy bus ride into Sienna... however, a bit difficult finding by car... there was only one staff member who had an attitude & was not helpful at all (we felt we were putting him out by asking any questions)... and the breakfast could have used fresh pastries instead of croissants in a bag.... we were sad to say goodbye to such a special place & look forward to a return...

We only stayed one night but the hotel proved to be very pleasent. There was a wonderful view of the Tuscany countryside out of our room window. If you go in mid to late Aug the colours are not so spectacular as in July. the road into the hotel is hard to find, it is very narrow on the right side travelling towards the gate. the breakfast was adequate but nothing special.

Gorgeous scenery: Tuscan countryside.
Would have been very helpful to have better directions to get there from a major highway. It may have been a 10 minute walk to the city wall, but easily 30-40 minutes to the center of town: a bit more than I'd want to do 2 round trips a day of. But the bus was quick; buy tickets at a Tabacci first.
We would probably go back there.

Would stay here again... with some minor upgrading work this could be a very beautiful old villa-hotel. Can't walk to historic center, so need a car if you stay here. But, very nice, quite location 5 minutes from historic center; fantastic views of tuscan countryside (they are upgrading their patio); very nice staff

Absolutely gorgeous view of Tuscan countryscape and of Siena from our room. Large, nice bathroom. Near bus stop. Great customer service; very friendly and helpful. Upon check in, the staff worked very hard to make tour arrangements for us to make sure our stay in Siena was great. We wished we could have stayed longer. Would love to return. Cab ride from train station was around 7 Euros; ride from hotel to train was 10 Euros. Definitely recommend this hotel.

The room that we got was not up to the expectations built up by the lovely web pictures. As the pictures show, our room did indeed have a high, beautifully painted ceiling and expensive bedspread on the double bed and curtain treatments, as well as nice furniture and decorations. The effect was greatly spoiled, however, by an unpolished floor, pictures (impressive lithographs in expensive frames) hung too high and in odd places, a cot-like third bed with a cheap bedspread, and a shabby and noisy small refrigerator. Other rooms seemed a lot better put together, however, and another guest gushed to us when we were arriving that the place was heaven. It well could be if you got a room that suits you.

Palazzo di valli is a beautifil place to stay. We had (I guess) the best room with a wonderful view (which normally costs more than the price we booked for). Breakfast is very nice. The only annoying thing was the construction a few meters from our window, were they started working at 7 in the morning.

The "Palazzo de Valli" is located a little far away from town and really hard to find. The hotel stuff informed us about the possibility to go easily by bus to the city, but it takes 15min. They even did not offer any bus tickets; we stepped into bus in the evening and found out thet we won´t be able to buy a ticket inside nor outside the bus. I did not like to ride without paying. The room was very spacious and had a very romantic view over Siena and a wonderful and unforgetable Tuscan view! This beautiful view compensates the high price for this hotel. In the morning you wake up by humming birds.....but: I also did hear the sound of Disco at night which war less nice. But in the morning the atmosphere in the breakfast room is romantic and full of tuscan countryside feeling. Therefore the Palazzo understand to compensates it´s weak points and at the end you´ll like it very much.

Beautiful building, beautiful scenery, dramatic driveway entrance to the house, nice easy walk into the city center. Better location for those driving themselves than those who take the train and taxi the way we did. Biggest complaint - there are animals in the surrounding area - cats, dogs and some other unidentifiable creatures that screeched, barked and generally made a huge racket ALL night long, every night. Also, you can basically hear everything that is going on in every room, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the place. If you want great views of Tuscany, with vineyards out side your window, it is. Also, the young gentleman at the front desk was the most unhappy person I have ever met. He was efficient and consise and informative, but so depressed it cast a pallor over the entire stay. But the owner is a joy and very sweet and happy to share stories of the house and environs.

A very nice property, with lovely views over the Tuscan countryside and views of Sienna itself. Very spacious rooms with traditional furnishings. Unfortunately each of our 3 nights was spoilt by loud disco music playing somewhere down in the valley which went on until approx. 4 a.m.

We only stayed one night, our first night in Italy and this was a perfect location. The view from the breakfast room is spectacular and the breakfast was the best of our entire trip. The location is perfect, step out the door and there are the most famous sights of Florence. Good restaurants right down the street, what else can you ask for?

In terms of proximity to the city, Palazzo di Valli is a bit inconveniently located. However, the hotel is very pretty and is located on a hill with a gorgeous view of the Tuscan countryside. The walk into town takes about 15-20 minutes. A city bus which stops outside of the hotel will take you into town or to the train station. Be aware that bus tickets must be purchased at the Tabachi shop and cannot be purchased on the bus. Taxis are a better option if you are in a rush. The reception desk was not staffed full time so you are pretty much on your own once you get there. The breakfast was average.

Pallazo di Valli, although a bit difficult to find (because of the streets in Siena), was a dream come true. The rooms are spacious, very clean, well decorated and give a very "homey" feeling. The most spectacular part, however, is the view from the hotel and the room windows. The position of the hotel allows guests to wake up to views of the beautiful Tuscan countryside as far as the eye can see. The employees were more than helpful and welcoming...very detail oriented. If you plan in staying in Siena and are looking for an "old-fashioned" hotel which embodies the Tuscan "feeling", Pallazo di Valli is definitley a MUST.

This hotel has beautiful gardens and quiet location, just outside of Siena town wall. The room is good size with beautiful view and modern bathroom.
We had problem finding the hotel because the map/direction on the website was illegible. Breakfast was too skimpy.
But overall, a nice and friendly property.

Terrific location; country feel, but within 20 minutes walking distance to city center of Siena. Awakened to roosters and beautiful sunrise over Tuscany. Spacious, spacious rooms. One of the (male) greeters was less than gracious, but the others were great, including the owner, who was very enthusiastic about his property. Breakfast was "packaged food," which was less than we expected given the price of the room. Otherwise, terrific!
