The family who runs the hotel is very welcoming and competent. They would do anything for you to feel ok. The property is charming (XIX°) and is decorated with taste. The breakfast is very complete. Unfortunatly we had a plumbery problem (water all over the floor coming out of the bathroom). As the hotel was complete, they transfered us in a flat they rent to families and groups few meters away. It was clean, very spacious and quiet though not as charming as the hotel itself.

Excellent hotel for the price. The Sabini family were wonderful hosts. Very helpful regarding things to do and see. Large breakfast (not just a brioche and coffee) including yogurt and soft boiled eggs cooked to order. They are not kidding about the parking. There is no need for a car as everything in town is within walking distance including the ferries to Portofino. Overall the hotel is a nice, clean, convinient place to stay with a very friendly and helpful staff. We would recommend the hotel to anyone and would stay there again.

Spent three nights here in mid September 2007. The first thing to say is how incredibly nice, helpful and welcoming the family Sabini is. They will go far, far out of their way to help you have a good visit. They have a good welcome package with maps and info about the area. During our stay they went above and beyond, each day asking our plans, then offering additional maps, bottled water, lots of advice and attention. They speak quite a lot of English, some German and French, and seem genuinely happy to run interference for their guests. The breakfast is very nice - a bit more than a typical continental breakfast, served in a cute dining room with lots of morning light. Our room was quite large, had 3 single beds even though we were only charged for a double. The furnishings were very basic - you could go so far as to say, a bit yucky. At least in our room, there was a lot of pressboard and faux-wood-grain vinyl. It unfortunately detracted from a really beautiful old room with high ceilings and huge windows with a view of the hills. We glimpsed a couple of other rooms which were not quite as tackily furnished...probably just the luck of the draw. Bathroom was teeny and really basic, with thin towels of the texure of dinner napkins - but huge, and surprisingly they worked fine. Be aware this is a one-star hotel - rooms are clean but the building itself is a little run down and certain things could use some attention. For the price, good value. No amenities, but would be a fine hotel for a budget traveller, and would be the PERFECT hotel for a neophyte traveller or someone new to Italy - they will hold your hand and make you comfortable with everything. They are very helpful about day trips to Cinque Terre. For a more experienced traveller, they might seem a bit over-attentive, but hey, who would be crazy enough to complain about that in Italy? The location is good - quieter than the big hotels on the Lido, which seemed like they'd be pretty noisy.

We were traveling with another couple who had never been to Europe, and we were delighted when we could make reservations for three nights at Hotel Nuovo Riviera, where we had stayed previously with our adult children and spouses. The Sabina father and son Juan Carlo were just as delightful and helpful as we had experienced in our earlier visit. Juan Carlo did an excellent job of presenting hiking information and train information for the area. The daily breakfasts were excellent. We look forward to our next stay at this fine, family-run hotel!

I would highly recommend staying at the Nuova Riviera. The family run hotel is perfectly positioned just close enough to the town centre and beaches but far enough to enjoy peace and quiet too. I travelled with my partner and we both thoroughly enjoyed Santa Margherita and the hotel staff also gave us great ideas for memorable day trips too. I would stay there again.

The hotel was very clean, the staff was nice and the breakfast was quite good for Italian breakfasts (we were so happy for a cooked egg!!). It was a bit loud though since the walls were thin and our room was below the breakfast area. There was no air conditioning but it was one of the few rooms we stayed in that had a ceiling fan. The "double bed" was actually two twin beds pushed together. It was a great, central location for day trips to Cinque Terra and Portofino. Do not expect luxury when staying here but we would stay here again.

A pleasant place to stay in beautiful Santa Margherita, an extremely helpful family committed to hospitality. Santa Margherita is a central spot to visit other locations eg. Cinque Terre Genoa & Portofino.

We were very delighted with our stay. Our hosts were most gracious and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed! Even 3 minute eggs! Our room could not have been better. Windows all around a circular room with a fabulous view of the mountains surrounding Santa Margarita. I can not think of a better place to stay in Santa Margarita for the quality and value. We could easily walk to restaurants every night and we also had free parking in front of the hotel. It was a wonderful stay and we would not hestiate to stay again. It was too short!

It is a very friendly hotel with a very familiar touch. We had an excellent welcome. We got a typical Italian breakfast with as much as we wanted cappuccino. At the end of our holyday, the Hotel owner even brought our luggage to the railway station. We also got 2 or 3 kilos of wonderful lemons. I made fine marmalade with them. I can only recommend the hotel Nuova Riviera. Daniel

This was our first time to Santa Margherita Ligure and we liked the area very much. It has excellent hiking opportunities. The Hotel Nuova was wonderful. Even though this was the only one star we stayed in, we rated it very high. I selected this Hotel because of the internet travelers comments and indeed they were accurate. The location was wonderful (not on the water, but in a quiet little neighborhood a few blocks from the water. Everything was accessible. We did not have a car and walked the 10 minutes from the train station.Only recommendation:A little variety in the breakfast for people staying multiple days like ourselves.

We loved the Hotel Nuova Riviera and felt like guests in the Sabini family home! Everyone was most gracious and helpful with directions and advice. The hotel is filled with old world charm and is well located - walking distance to the trains for Cinque Terra and very near Portofino. We will definitely recommend this hotel and, if we are fortunate enough to return to the Italian Riveria, we will indeed stay at the Nuova Riviera. Grazie mille!

Petit hotel magnifiquement entretenu.

MR. SABINI AND HIS FAMILY WELCOMED OUR PARTY OF FOUR AND PROVIDED THE MOST KIND SERVICE THAT WE HAD RECEIVED ON OUR MONTH LONG TOUR OF ITALY. THE NOUVA RIVIERA IS A BEAUTIFUL VILLA IN THE HEART OF STE. MARGHERITA, JUST A LONG BLOCK FROM THE TOWN CENTER. WHILE WE WERE THERE IN THE OFF SEASON, IT IS STILL A GREAT TOWN TO VISIT. THE RESTAURANTS AND BARS SERVED GREAT TRADITIONAL ITALIAN CUISINE AND LOCAL WINES. WE ALSO VISITED THE NEARBY TOWNS OF PORTOFINO AND RAVALLO BY USING THE LOCAL BUS SYSTEM AND JUST A QUICK HOP ON THE LOCAL TRAIN BROUGHT US DOWN TO THE COASTAL VILLAGES OF CINQUE TERRA OR UP TO THE PORT CITY OF GENOA. THIS HOTEL IS A GREAT PLACE TO SPEND A FEW DAYS EXPLORING THE SURROUNDING AREAS. OUR HATS ARE OFF TO MR. SABINI FOR A GREAT VISIT.

This hotel was the nicest surprise of my vacation in Italy. After a mediocre strain of hostels, this comparably priced hotel was a welcome change! I can't say enough nice things about Nuova Riviera. The one star rating is misleading--the hotel deserves far more! The father and son team that run the hotel are friendly, helpful, and seem to "look after" all their guests. They provided us with maps, train schedules, and restuarant reccommendations upon our arrival. In addition, they provide complimentary breakfast in a charming breakfast room, and they make the best homemade cappucino and hot chocolate. The rooms are big, airy, tastefully decorated, and the bathrooms are brand new and spotless! The building is a beautiful little villa surrounding by beautiful garden landscaping. A definite must, especially for the price! We didn't want to leave!

We think this should be at least a 3 star! The owner family were charming and very helpful. Our room was the best on our entire trip, and very reasonable on price. This is a well kept jewel, and we hope only really nice and appreciative travelers will discover it. Ciao,

Rooms were adequate but bathrooms were built for hobbits. Continental breakfast consisted of crusty rolls and that's about it. Overbearing owner who's puritanical ravings were unwelcome at the breakfast table. Give this place a miss, friends stayed at the Hotel Jolanda - better everything for only 20 euros more and they have access to a private beach!

We were most impressed with this hotel. It was better than many hotels we have stayed in which have more stars than it. In particular,it was good that we could open the windows and not be disturbed by the noise of traffic and yet still be close to the centre of town.

We spent 2 weeks in Italy, 3 days at the Hotel Nuova Riviera. Of the 5 different hotels we stayed in, this was definitely our best experience. The famiglia Sabini was very kind and welcoming, and helpful, paying exceptional attention to detail. Continental airlines lost our luggage and the Sabini's tracked it down for us. A very quaint little hotel, away from the noise of the promenade and the scooters. The Sabini's are great at suggesting things to do and provide maps and train schedules. We would definitely stay there again, it was the best!!

We arrived at the hotel to a very warm welcome. The hotel was ideally situated, about a five minute walk from the main town, in a quiet residential area. The owners were absolutely lovely and very welcoming. On arrival we were given lots of information regarding bus times etc. and maps of the area. It was quite hot when we arrived and at first we were a little apprehensive about the lack of air conditioning, but we found that the ceiling fan in the room was more than adequate. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anybody looking for a reasonably priced, good quality hotel in the area.

Hotel was a 12 room family operation with constricted parking - they did not want us to use our car. Parking was a major problem in this town so we could not tour the surrounding areas. Morning breakfast was same every day - bread and orange juice. Changing of bed sheets was simply a changing of position on the bed. I would not stay there again.

This is our second visit to the home of the Sabatini family and, as usual, the welcome, service and attention we received was outstanding. This is not a faceless chain hotel but a superb family home which offers a welcome second to none. You may get more facilities (at a higher price) in a faceless chain hotel but you are unlikely to receive this level of personal attention in such an establishment.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff were very friedly and helpful. I particularly liked the fact that our rooms were cleaned every day. One complaint I would have however was that we received a wake up knock on the door every morning at 9.00 am. Other than that, our stay was very enjoyable and I would recommend the hotel to my family and friends.

This 1-star hotel is certainly one more star worthwhile, and is even better than many "low level 3-stars hotels" in touristic Italian cities. The location is very convenient: close to the city centre and the sea, to the footpaths to the Portofino natural park, and to the railway station for trips to Cinque Terre. French-speaking guests are particularly welcome. In comparison to many Tuscan hotels, this one is however rather expensive, but Sta Margherita and the whole Portofino area are indeed not cheap at all...

This is a great place to stay in a wonderful part of Italy. The hotel certainly ranks as a 3 star facility not the 1 star that it presently has.
