TThe hotel is very good in the very town centre close to the see and to the car-park. The rate were very convenient and the personnel very professional. I just noted that the Room had few minor refurbishing problems (a water stain on the bathroom roof and a stain on the carpet) and the walls are very thin so you can listen to what happens in the neighbour rooms. However I was overall very pleased with our stay.

My family of 4 had a wonderful stay at Hotel Laurin. It was my first booking with Venere and I intend to use it again. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the port, very relaxing to sit outside and enjoy the view and watch the fishing boats arrive in the afternoon. The breakfast offered good variety except the additional charge for scrambled eggs. Only 2 spots in front of hotel to unload luggage, and parking garage about 3 blocks away, not very convenient and front desk not very helpful, barely got a smile from them. Pool and pool area could have been larger. Beach at their other property had a per person charge- a bit pricy!

The hotel Laurin is in a great location right on the water front, our room was sufficient for the four of us and very clean. The hotel staff were very helpful and the breakfast was nice. Unfortunatley it rained for most of our stay but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time there. We would definately stay there again.

The hotel is very comfortable and located in a wounderful landascape in the gulf of Tigullio.
The price is quite high, but really consistent with the level and the location of the hotel.
However, we have to complain a little bit for the breakfast, owing to the narrowness of room (the little bar of the hotel) and choice!

We stayed in a standard room. The room is right above the street which is quite busy with cars and bikes. We were also disturbed by the people in the room next to ours because we could hear them speaking together and and the phone.
Service is good. We had help for the luggages when arriving but not when leaving.

This hotel has an excellent location, however, parking is a major problem. The hotel is more of a 3 star hotel and is badly in need of a refurbishment. The staff were very helpful.
If you wish to visit Portofino you should go by bus, i Euro each way as taxis are very expensive, just like everything else in Portofino!

really enjoyed our stay at hotel laurin. requested room with terrace and got one, which we really enjoyed.was afraid, after reading reviews that hotel would be noisy, especially as our room was on 1st floor at top of stairs, but this was not a problem. enjoyed views, boat trips, train trip to genoa. also ate out every night - found restaurants up the side streets much better than those on front- especially il faro, antonio and il frantoia. food shops and patisseries fantastic. chanced upon a leaflet with walks around the town and surrounding hills. although this was in italian we still managed to do some and not get lost!also recommend villa durazzo for a stroll. laurin was expensive but it was high season and the position of the room on the front was excellent. p.s. thought the breakfast buffet excellent too.

We have had a wonderful time at Hotel Laurin. Excellent location, clean and comfortable. Great view and nice terrace and swimming pool. Good breakfast. Not so big bedrooms in the 3erd floor. Only one problem, the air conditioner was not working and when we asked for repair they said that they will repair it the next morning, that was our check-out day. We think that internet service should be able in rooms for laptops, we have had an internet conference at 3:00 AM in the ground floor. Unfortunately, parking was very difficult, so as an advice if you rent a car, just be patient to find a parking place (paid) in the main street next to the hotel (high season).

Wonderful hotel, competent employees.
Only problem: no parking space, in the summer it must be very difficult to park and that might stop people to stay in that hotel. Too bad because everything else is absolutely great.

Excellent position right in the centre of Santa margherita and on the water front - only negative is that there is no car park so if you have a car you have to take time to find a spot in a non-paying area, but this is a place where a car is not needed as there is good public transport and walking and boats are the best way to get around

We loved our stay. Location was perfect, beds comfy and staff welcoming. Although the room was very noisy as it backed onto the lift, the fantastic view and balcony were more than enough compensation. We were delighted with the quality of room considering this was an internet booking particularly after the disasterous and very expensive pre-paid room we were subjected to at the Hotel Ala in Venice. Would definately return again!

WE were dismayed by the 1st room given to us as we had asked for a specific room only to find when we arrived they wanted another 70 euro per night, declining this option we were assigned possibly the worst room in the hotel with a very obstructed view after a request to change the front desk employee was less than help full and it took a lot of unnecessary haggling to be given a very nice room, perhaps we should have been advise that the room reqyested off the web site incurred an extra cost then we could have had a perfect room for the entire stay. I dislike having to pack up and change rooms during a stay.!!

We enjoyed our stay here in August 2005. The room was clean and had great views from the lovely terrace. The staff were very friendly and helful. Only downside - the rooms were a little noisy (other rooms) especially the roller shutters. Definitely stay again.

The Laurin Hotel is probably not the most typical and charming of Santa Margherita (although not bad at all), but offers really good services and is ideally located. One very important thing is the kindness and professionalism of employees, which was really remarkable.
I would recommend the Laurin Hotel for its situation, the quality of its services and staff, as well as for its moderate price compared to other hotels around, even though Sta. Margherita is not a cheap destination.

We've rented a familly room (4 beds)
We received a double room and by pushing the walls (!!) , the hotel sucess in placing 2 more beds.
This was unacceptable and it was may be my last reservation through Venere.

This hotel is in the perfect spot. The front staff were very friendly and helpfull. The only down side was that the rooms were very noisy and that was not the street noise it was the noise from the other rooms. For a four star hotel i also found the breakfasts to be poor,i am unfortunately comparing this with a four star hotel wich i stayed in in Verona wich was superb.

We loved the Laurin and had a wonderful terrace room that suited our family with 2 children. The Concierge was particularly helpful with local restaurants that would suit the children and in organising ferries to Portofino. We loved the rooftop pool and would recommend this to any family travelling through the Riviera.

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast was very good as well as the rest of the accommodations. The only three things we could fault ... and two, hard beds and no washcloths, seemed to be the norm throughout our travel. The cold tile floor was probably cleaner and more sanitary than any carpet - but it would have been nice to have a little area rug next to the bed. All in all, this was a much more pleasant experience than the Hotel Danieli in Venice! We loved it.

Beautiful hotel, well located with all facilities needed. Request a room facing the water & you'll be delighted. Have stayed in others in Sta. Margerita but so far this is the best. Will definitely return to one of the nicest places in the area.

Very well located hotel and was an ideal spot after a couple of weeks of very busy travel around Europe. Facilities were very good, however, the breakfast service could have been better organised and supplied. It is unfortunate that laundry services were not available on site as the laundry service provided by the hotel was quite expensive. It was good to have an internet cafe style service booth on site.

we loved the hotel laurin. our one complaint is the maps that were available on the website werent very accommodating in getting us to the hotel. we wandered from the train station for quite a while and had to ask a few locals in order to find it. But overall, we loved the location. We loved our room with the private patio overlooking the harbor, the breakfast was excellent and the evening staff was very accommodating. (the morning male help were a little less warm). Other than that, we definitely plan on going back to the Hotel Laurin for our next stay in S. Margherita!

a delightful position and extremely helpful staff made for a very enjoyable stay. 3rd floor room and terrace were not as spacious as those in other parts of the hotel - if you want space look for a 1st floor seaview room. Attached restaurant is v good value and has competent pizzeria/trattoria style cooking.

Hotel Laurin was chosen for a specific purpose. For a Relaxing 4 day break by the sea.As the Gulf of Tigulio has mainly private pebbled beaches I was keen to have a pool at the hotel.
The hotel is positioned a pleasant 15 minute walk from the train station, as long as you don't have too much heavy luggage. There is one flight of stairs to proceed down to the sea front which means wheelie cases need to be carried.
The Hotel is located right on the harbour front, adjacent to the handy reference point of the Castle, with the main road to Portofino outside your door. Parking is not available on site though parking locally is available though somewhat limited.
The Hotel is very well presented in the public areas and the reception staff were helpful with good English. I had booked a single room so was surprised to find a doublebed, welcome from a comfort point of view but not from a space viewpoint!! The room was clean and nicely decorated with a bathroom that was spotless with a powerful shower over a bath. A Minibar was provided as was a hair dryer although no room safe. The description of this hotel is that all rooms have a sea view-not mine. My room was situated on the side of the building and through the window their was an narrow view of the harbour!! Most of the accomodation does face the harbour and the sea beyond and those rooms are significantly larger! Maybe Venere could warn single travellers of this?
Breakfast was in an airy room on the ground floor at the front of the hotel. The usual european cold selection was of a good quality and the service of from the one on duty waiter was excellent.
The highlight for me was the rooftop pool and terrace. Floor three is split in two with half being accomodation and half being the terrace. The terrace is opened at 0700 and closes at 1900 and the sun is visible from open until about 1700. Teperatures were already 100plus at 0800 so remeber your sun block! The terrace is flanked by teh Castle with a church rising b
