We had a lovely time in Santa Margherita Ligure - it is ideally located for exploring the Italian Riviera. Hotel Jolanda is less than ten minutes walk from the train and there is a fantastic train service provided. The hotel is near the centre of the town but in particular I would like to commend the staff who were very helpful and informative. Overall it was a pleasure staying in this fantastic hotel. We were particularly impressed on checking in when we received an upgrade on our room at no additional cost - many thanks++.

Ideal location--five minute walk to the waterfront area with the lovely park and many restaurants. It is on a busy street but with the windows closed, the noise isn't too bad. Spacious room and bathroom, wonderful breakfast in a delightful setting and only a ten minute walk down the hill from the train station. We ate at a number of places and had a great meal at Oca Bianca just down the street from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. Would stay here again.

The hotel was located a short walk from the town square, the market and many good restaurants. The room and bathroom were large enough for two people and air-conditioning was good. We enjoyed our stay there and the staff was very helpful. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel made it VERY NOISY. We stayed there for 3 nights. We met up with our group from BackRoads for a hiking trip in Cinque Terre. I felt the hotel was convenient and well priced but not very relaxing. I'm afraid most hotels in that area of Santa Margherita would be the same way.

Hotel Jolanda in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I especially liked the interior decor - very tasteful, especially compared to hotels in Germany. I loved Hotel Jolanda! The entire hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. The service was great. The breakfast was also very good. I will definitely stay at Hotel Jolanda again. Kind Regards, Diana Michiulis

For our travel needs was close to Portofino and Cinque Terra. Had a great stay!!!

Great hotel with ambiance & well located close to Portofino & the less commercial fishing village of Camogli nearby. Perfect stay was marred by failure of arranged wake up call which was critical to catch an early train to Milan. Night Duty Manager conveniently forgot his English & lapsed into defensive Italian mode when we advised the oversight! Motto -Take your own alarm wake up device.

We agree with the reviews we read on the web site that this was the most comfortable, well-decorated hotel we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Italy. Our corner room had 2 walk out doors to a balconey. Our breakfast (included with the price) was sumptous. The quality is very high for the price. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

We stayed for two days and I must say the hotel is well situated! ok you do not have a seeview but you are close to everything. The parking under the hotel is a bit small but once parked the car we did not move it anymore! You can walk to the trainstation and from there travel to 5terra. As it was a special occasion there is a great estaurant just in of the hotel: somethinkg with a duck(canard) but I can not remember the name. Anyway NICE place to sray in OCTOBER!!

Stayed during August 2006 and found the hotel to be excellent. The staff where freindly and helpfull and the room was very good, but we found that the bathroom was a bit on the small size. This would not stop us from staying again and would highly recommend it. The location was ideal for discovering this beautiful part of Italy.

Beautiful place in great location. Short walk from train station. Close to buses too. Excellent breakfast and facilities. Hot spot internet is available but need to pay for it and it is not cheap. Very competent staff. Would stay again for sure.

This was the most beautiful property we stayed at in our 2 weeks of travel throughout Italy. It was clean, conveniently located and an amazing value as well. The breakfast was wonderful, with lots to choose from including cereals, meats, cheeses, yogurts, as well as a variety of drinks. The breakfast room was beautiful as well, there were tablecloths on the tables, and we ate off of china. The location of the Jolanda was very convenient, just a short walk to the water, as well as shopping and restaurants. We were in a group of 10 people (2 families) and all of us loved staying here. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this part of Italy!

The vicinity to the station, the central position, the excellent rooms and service provided by the staff are enough to consider Hotel Jolanda as one of Santa Margherita's best solution.

The woman at the desk, named Vivanna, was very rude to us from the start. She was very warm and friendly to other guests that were not Americans. The worst time came on the last day we were staying there. We took some of our luggage to the car before breakfast, which was parked 4 spaces from the hotel. Vivanna ran out after us to the street and was yelling at us "What are were doing? What is your room number?" We said we decided to take out some luggage on the way down to breakfast. She kept yelling to us.."What is your room number?" We felt very embarrassed in front of other guests standing outside the hotel. She treated us like we were criminals. After we ate breakfast, we checked out and I asked Vivanna if we had done anything to offend her. She replied, in a puzzled way, that we had not. I inquired to her why she ran after us to the street. She said many Americans leave without paying their bills. She repeated herself and said it again. I told her that I thought that was an odd thing to say and that it was apparent she did not like Americans. The other staff were very helpful and courteous. I am not sure I would return to this hotel again due to that embarrassing experience.

I loved the location and the hotel provided excellent service and restaurant recommnedations. the issue of noise is motor scooter noice early morning coming throrugh the windows, which are likely single pane. I would definitely come back. excellent breakfast and common use areas.

Overall the hotel was very, very nice; no complaints. A few blocks away from the water and restaurants and the room was clean and quiet. I was disenchanted with a female desk clerk. I do not speak Italian and she was very short with my not understanding what she was attempting to tell me as her English was limited as well.

Very pleasant hotel, centrally located. Added bonus for a single traveller was the on site restaurant. Shower cubicles not adequate for fatties!

very good value for your money. Easily accesible from the train station. Waik from the station if you can the cab fares are ridiculous. The hotel has great atmosphere, some of the personnel were helpful others always seemed to be too busy. Breakfast was very good. We enjoyed our stay.

We loved the Hotel Jolanda. The day staff were very competant, helpful and knowledgeable. We arrived late at night and there was a bit of a mix up and limited English speaking capacity. The breakfast was lovely. Just a short walk into town--and Santa Margherita Ligure is a nice sized town, lovely-- with a good range of restaurants. We wished we could have stayed longer but went onto the Excelsior Palace Hotel in Rapallo. Good value for the money, in pricey town. We stayed in the Junior suite, although the bathroom was still a bit small. We would definitely stay there again. It seems very popular, and you probably should reserve in advance. Thanks for the great service.

This hotel is in a fantastic location to enjoy all of the Liguria area. We took a ferry to Portofino for lunch. Train to Cinque Terre for the day. Wonderful restaurants in town. I would highly reccommend this hotel for its value and friendlyness.

Hotel Jolanda was lovely. The room was small but adequate. CNN in English on the TV was a plus. The location is an easy walk to the waterfront. With not too much luggage it is a doable walk from the train station down hill but it's an uphill hike on the way back so you might want to take a cab if you have too much to haul. The common areas of Hotel Jolanda are beautifully decorated. The breakfast was excellent and enjoyed in a lovely courtyard. Although not on the water, the price was good for being the high season in Santa Margherita Ligure. Would definitely recommend Hotel Jolanda.

Hotel Jolanda is a lovely hotel with a great location-- very close to the train station and to the main area in town. In a 5 minute walk, you're at the water. Our room was spacious (in European standards) and clean. We even had a balcony! The decor is lovely and the A/C really helped during the hot summer months. Breakfast is included and served in a pretty outside garden patio area. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends. The value for the money is excellent especially for the pricey Italian Riviera. And booking through venere.com was great. They were accurate with the information provided and the prices posted were really a great rate. I will definitely book through venere.com in the future.

Advantages i. Clean, bright, nicely decorated rooms. Our friends, who traveled with us, got a balcony with their room. We shared a nice meal of wine, bread, cheese, and fresh fruit out on their balcony. ii. The hotel has numerous nooks and crannies and is comfortably furnished. It has a work out room, but it is not open 24 hours a day. iii. Breakfast – 3 or 4 types of bread and rolls, ham and slices of cheese, fresh fruits, 2 dry cereals, 2 juices, coffee, cappuccino, tea, and hot chocolate iv. The air conditioning is very quiet and cools the room, if you need it. v. Easy walking to and around Santa Margherita. The hotel has bicycles that hotel guests can ride; this is a great way to get into Portofino while automobiles queue up for 40 minutes at a time to drive the 4 to 5 kilometers (that’s 2.5 to 3 miles for Americans). An aside, don’t go to Portofino in a car; take a water taxi or ride a bike or motor scooter. vi. The internet point costs 2 euros for 15 minutes, 4 euros for 30 minutes, and 6 euros for 60 minutes. It is usually available. vii. The staff is pleasant. Some have better English skills than others (important for Americans who didn’t take the time to learn basic Italian phrases – yeh, I was in that group). Disadvantages i. Italian hotels seem to be optimistic about advertising distances from the train station to their geographical location. The Jolanda is not a simple hoof from the station; it is nearly a kilometer (that’s about half a mile for you Americans) - down hill, which means that you walk uphill going back to the train station. Overall – considering the expense and comparison with other hotels of similar caliber, I would give it three stars.

Hotel Jolanda was great. The room was huge. I don't think they had air conditioning, but we didn't need it in late April. The decor was exquisite and the staff were very helpful. It was our favorite hotel this time to Italy.

We stayed in a deluxe room, with small sitting area, so there was plenty of space. The hotel is very atractive. The location is great and close to many small shops and markets and 7 minutes to the train station by foot.

Very friendly staff . Able to upgrade upon arrival which was appreciated . The largest negative is really the parking and lack of available parking on the street [ May 2003]. Within walking distance of all local shops and restaurants. We would recomend the hotel .

The Jolanda hotel is in a great location - within a minutes walk of the sea. The hotel room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. However the rooms were extremely noisy. It is possible to hear conversations from the rooms adjacent and in the morning the traffic noise becomes unbearable at about 7 o'clock. As we stayed in the off season this hotel was good value for money but you will need ear plugs.

Staff at reception desk at times gives impression that questions by various guests are an imposition. Otherwise, location and service are good. Prices seem to have gone up from last year(partly due to conversion to Euro ??)

We enjoyed our stay at Jolanda very much. The room was smaller than expected but comfortable and clean. We were initially given a room on the streetside of the hotel and asked to change to a quieter room. This was done with no fuss. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Definitely a winner!
