I booked for 3 nights, wanting to take advantage of the "terme", the thermal waters, not realizing that the Granduca is virtually a huge motel-type conference centre in the middle of nowhere. The "baths" are actually located in the "Wellness Centre" of the hotel on the other side of the highway, and are spooky, 19th cent actual bathrooms, with just an ancient bathtub in which you sit for the allotted time - BORING!!! The staff at Granduca weren't helpful or friendly and gave me incorrect advice about transport on 2 occasions - didn't seem to have a clue and cared even less. BE WARNED: there is NOTHING else there - just a tiny piazza with a few odd shops with the usual odd opening hours. The only other guests were 2 huge groups - one of elderly Italians and 1 of Italian men - and a sprinkling of passers-through. Hotel restaurant is v expensive and has the same limited menu every day for a week - and you can't get anything to eat outside its limited hours.

Our room was a former smoking room and as you probably can imagine you could smell it after a while (they are using enormous amounts of parfume but that does not help). The rooms and their equipment are from the 70's, no special hotel services are available, internet only against payment (3€/hour, in a **** place??). All in all the Granduca is just an expensive *** (3) star hotel, not more. The village is quite ok, providing a pizzeria and a gelateria. Another good thing is that you are fast in Pisa and Lucca.

Arredamento un po' vecchio ma tutto sommato accettabile, bagno piccolo...ma insomma diciamo tutto sommato darei un 6 e mezzo pieno.

Great in overall. Maybe a bit expensive for the service provided. This hotel is huge, so don't expect a cosy and custom atmosphere..

Very disappointed - the only poor hotel during our 14 day stay in a number of places in Italy. Bathrooms dirty and we even saw mice running along the corridor. Didn't bother taking breakfast. Outside shabby and grounds unkept.
