Hotel du Louvre is inside the walled city - part of the attraction for history nuts and very convenient for getting to eating places as well as all parts of this remarkable historical town. Intramuros is a maze of one-way streets; in fact. sections of the streets go different ways, too. So take a good street map if you're not arriving by cab or hotel shuttle.
We took a standard double room, on the 5th floor. Very small and very basic, but that's not unusual in France, especially for hotels in old buildings right in the centre of town. Bed was comfortable, bathroom fine - except for no wall bracket for the flexible shower head. This was the last available room, with tourist traffic already seeming to be quite heavy, so we have no idea what other more expensive rooms might be like. Elevator is tiny - one person at a time if bringing large bags. No trouble for us, but it was interesting when a busload of Americans turned up.
Some car parking is available at the hotel itself, though we found manoeuvring to be a challenge! If you have a big car, best to park outside the walls (10 min walk). Narrow cobbled streets amplify any noise outside, but double-glazed windows help keep it tolerable.
The owners are a charming couple, very capable and helpful, as were their few other staff (who can be a little over-stretched at times). There is a lovely Breton restaurant right next door, and no shortage of other options for eating, from fine French dining to hamburgers.
St Malo was a perfect base for touring the coastline between there and Mont St Michel, and a visit to the nearby fortified town of Dinan is a must. For us, Hotel du Louvre was the right place at the right time, reasonably priced for its location, and we would cheerfully revisit in future.

A lovely stay, very pleasant personnel who made us feel welcome at all times, very well-situated intra-muros. Upon check-out, we were surprised to hear about an additional 20 euros on our bill due to an extra bed being brought into our room, whereas on the www.venere.com site, the extra bed was indicated as being included in the room rate. The gentleman who checked us out did not dispute the rate quoted on the venere confirmation, and kindly 'offered' us the extra bed at no additional cost. A very kind and hospitable gesture! Un vrai bijou au coeur de St Malo!

Nice quiet hotel, with fantastically helpful staff. No language barrier as all staff we met spoke impeccable English, (I'm sorry that I do not speak adequate French!) I would choose to stay at the hotel again when next in St Malo

St Malo a walled city with limited parking but Hotel conveniently located near gate so not all that awkward to park near gate (assuming one knows which gate to park near). Our room on 4th floor overlooking the street was very nice but unfortunately with the windows open, every noise from the street came into the room, including some noisy revellers at 2am...

This was a great hotel. we only spent one night in Saint Malo, but this was a great place to stay. It is located in the old city and just a short walk from the shore and lots of great restaurants. we will definitely stay here again when returning to Saint Malo.
