We stayed at Il Rokna while attending a conference at St Julians (Hotel International). The location was within easy walking distance of the conference venue and was in a good neighbourhood, near the Hilton and with easy bus access to Valletta. There is also an excellent cafe/restaurant just over the road and two nearby internet cafes. Although there were a number of night clubs in adjacent streets these did not bother us when walking late at night or with noise. The hotel staff were helpful, especially so when a dentist was required. The breakfast was quite adequate and we also used the restaurant on one occasion for one of the "famed" pizzas. Our only complaint was the shower. We stayed on the top floor and the water pressure from the shower was less than adequate, with poor water flow.

1.Too much noise outside - can't be helped by hotel. 2.Had lots of problems with wi-fi which really frustrated me and almost ruined my week. 3.If I wanted to buy a family hotel this would be the one. Staff, location, room, food, all great.

A very nice hotel, without presumptions, ideal for lone travellers who looks only for a place to stay, centric, near touristic places, rests. & so on, only difficult to park around but if you travl only to Malta, forget the car! buses take you almost everywhere!

Need a better public area with a TV with Cable. The staff were excellent! This defenitely made up for any other short comings.

I used the Rokna as my headquarters for the Malta Cut Snooker Tournament 2008 at the Hilton across the street. The hotel Rokna is basic and a little tatty, but very pleasant. The restaurant is fantastic! This was my first visit, and I'll definitely be staying there again.

Great value. Double room for 40e a night + breakfast. All but one of the staff were wonderful. The streets outside were a little noisy at night though.

Me and my girlfriend (now fiancée ;-)) where staying at Ir-Rokna for a whole week and we enjoyed waking up every morning and having a nice breakfast as well as coming home after a long touristic day to relax in the nice and cosy room. Unexpectedly we had a balcony and a bathtub and wireless internet in lounge, foyer and restaurant and it is true: the personnel creates a very family-like atmosphere. If we were to come back to Malta we would definitely consider to stay in the same hotel again. A last remark: You have to try out the Pizza they serve in their Restaurant! It is simply great!!

Excellent value spacious room with balcony, handy for shops, restaurants, buses and for very nearby Hilton Conference Centre. Bathing beach and nightclubs also very close. Downside was traffic noise late into the night, particularly Friday and Saturday. A window in the bathroom gave onto a wide shaft receiving the hot air from all the guest-controlled air conditioning units. This actually warmed the rooms, whereas the traffic noise made it difficult to have the front balcony doors open. I think air con is bad for the environment and shouldn't be necessary in Malta at the end of September, so I didn't use it and had some quite sweaty nights!

Hotel Rokna is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for inexpensive accommodation. Indeed, although rooms are not extremely large, they all have air conditioning and a fridge to keep your things cool. In every room there is also a tv with satellite channels. Breakfast is continental type, but you can eat enough food to keep you going until the afternoon. At nights, in the hotel restaurant you can eat a great pizza, one of the best we have ever eaten outside Italy. The hotel is really conveniently located, just opposite Portomaso Tower, with a supermarket in its basement, and round the corner from the restaurants, shops and fun of Paceville. Public transport is just a short walk away. Unfortunately, Maltese drivers tend to make a wide use of their cars' horn, besides listening to loud music from their radios, so it is easy to be awaken in the middle of the night by the traffic, despite having closed the windows. The owners are really friendly and helpful, and were a great help in organising our trip around Malta.

I needed a base for a weekend visit to see family. What I actually got was a wonderful, small, family-run hotel that I will use again, long after the family has returned to the UK. I have passed the details on to family and friends who also intend visiting. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were all friendly, polite and a credit to the owner, Anton. Excellent!!

The receptionists are very helpful and very kind. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel decoration is rather old but this is not a problem. The location is the best in Malta: In the Portomazo and just 2 mins walking from the most liveley place of the malta full of bars and discos (paceville). Rokna hotel is an excellent choice for quality vs. price.

The foyer and television lounge have been designed and finished to very high specifications. A lift service to all floors is available. The hotel has a sun deck on top for sunbathing.
ROKNA RESTAURANT & PIZZERIA , which forms part of the hotel, is perhaps the best known pizzeria and restaurant in Malta. Here one can order from a wide variety of pizza specialities baked in an original log oven. The restaurant also offers a variety of meat, pasta, poultry, fish and salad dishes. A selection of local and foreign wines is also available.
Prices are well within everyone’s budget, which explains ROKNA’s popularity with Maltese families dining out. All items on menu are also served as ‘take-aways’.
