The Cicerone is a large-ish hotel a short walk from the Vatican and a short-medium walk from Rome's historic center. This makes the location great. The rooms were standard European style - a bit lower quality than US business-style hotels, but still nice. The hotel clearly caters toward a combination of Italian business people and English-speaking tour groups. Parking is convenient for those who use a car to travel between cities in Italy (don't bother driving in Rome). Breakfast is horrid - a combination of poor food, bad hygiene (dropped utensils at the buffet are put back on the table), and sloppy service - don't waste your time on this. Instead head to a local cafe on the way to an attraction. The hotel location is safe, but is definitely a walk from the historic center's restaurants. The hotel is fairly modern, and even has (fee-based) wifi. Overall, I wouldn't have qualms about staying there again, but would prefer to try something new than to pay high rates for average rooms.

Nice hotel, very good breakfast, easy access. However the wallpapers in our room need to be changed. Also I expected the staff would act more friendly. They were very professional and polite but I missed the friendliness

Hotel Cicerone caters to Americans. I felt liked I stayed at a Mariott hotel. It did however serve my purpose.

My wife and I had waited a long time for a romantic weekend together in Rome and this hotel was an excellent compliment to our stay. It was sufficiently near the Vatican for a quiet stroll whislt not being too far from the shopping centre. The local restaurants were superb. A very enjoyable weekend and looking forward to the next. This location was great! It is close to the sights at the Vatican as well as being only a 5 minute walk away from exploring the people and sights that come out in the evening to stroll between the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navone. The breakfast buffet is the best we had during our one month tour of Europe.

We stayed in this hotel during a holiday in Italy. The hotel was very large and the downstairs communal areas were very modern and bright. The reception staff were incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. We asked for advice on restaurants and transport several times and were given short, dismissive replies. There were many groups of American tourists staying in the hotel and they seemed to receive a more respectful service than we did. The breakfast was fabulous and the breakfast staff very pleasant, as were the concierges. The room was huge but rather shabby and old fashioned - not like the room used in the website photographs. The location is handy for the Vatican but far from all the decent restaurants and bars. Having now been to Rome I would not recommend anyone stay anywhere else than the area of Trastevere. I was pleased to leave this hotel at the end of the stay as we felt so unwelcome.

Very good rooms, very good location, american standard (which is good in this sence) - but the service needed first to understand, that they have to serve the guest and not the contrary. After a small but needful discussion all were happy: the service to serve me and me to be served. Very good breakfast, a lot of young international people and an excellent garage service. And the location was really right to "be inside" Rome. Good choice, also for the next time.

We've stayed in Rome before, and the hotel makes a huge difference in the quality of the stay. I read a lot of reviews on Venere before finding this hotel. It was a lovely hotel and made our trip. The breakfast buffet was large and well done. The fitness room had good quality equipment and the staff were helpful when we asked for directions to get around the city. To me the best part was the location. We almost picked a hotel near Termini Station, but reviewers didn;t like the neighborhood. We were out late at night most nights, and this neighborhood seemed quite safe. It is also 10 min walk to Piazza Navona, Villa Borghese and the Vatican. The bus out front took us right to the Colleseum. If you can get a good price for a room online, it is a great place to stay. Unlike other hotels, it really IS a four star. We would definitely stay here again.

Of all the places we stayed along our trip this was the best deal. It had all the amenities we had been used to in our US travels plus the comforts of italian hospitality (i.e. breakfast). The in room internet services and special of all movies with 24 hour interenet access made us maximizing our experience in Rome easy. Saved again by Google. The worst I would say is the staff wasn't not very helpful in directing us for dinner and were very pretentious. The best restaurant in our stay was right across the street to boot!

the published US $ was $140.00 - the price i was charged was 250 Euros per night. Big difference!! Facility was nice - we were NOT told that breakfast was included when we checked in - we found out later it was.

This is the second time we have visited Rome in the last 2 years. The first visit was spoilt by our choice of Hotel (not through Venere) This time was very very good. Venere is a good, honest site to book accomodation through. Hotel Ciccerone suited our needs perfectly, we will stay again the next time in Rome.

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel Cicerone for two nights. It was a beautiful, clean hotel in a nice area of town. The only problem we had was that we had booked a driver to pick us up at the airport through the concierge at the hotel (as our flight was scheduled to arrive rather late at night). When we arrived, there was no one there to pick us up, despite the fact that I had received written confirmation from the concierge desk. We called the hotel and ended up having to take a taxi. Once we arrived at the hotel, they did apologize for the mistake, upgraded our room and helped to arrange our return transport to the airport at a discounted rate. I would definitely return to stay at this hotel (especially at the wonderful rates I booked through Venere). It was a close walk to Vatican City or the shopping area in downtown Rome. The breakfast buffet was extensive for Italian hotels, but make sure that the cost has already been included in your booking as I do not think you would want to pay 20 Euros per day for it.

Hotel Cicerone is a large hotel so don't be surprised if you're made to feel like a small fish in a big pond. Our welcome to the hotel was very cold and methodical. In fact, I'm sure the person at check-in didn't even look up once let alone smile. The lobby and public areas are fresh, spacious and comfortable. The rooms are typical of a big hotel, lacking character and warmth. Many of the rooms features, including airconditioning, remote control and internet keyboard, were broken. Despite being winter, the temperature in our room soared so we had to sleep with the window open, increasing the noise. Like most Italian hotels, Cicerone has completely given up on the queen/king size bed, preferring instead to push two single beds together. This is OK if they're joined but our weren't and had a tendancy to move apart. Breakfast was faily standard. They've attempted to please American guests by providing a cooked breakfast but you're better off with coffee and a pastry. Cicerone is clean, convenient and well priced but don't expect too much from the experience.

The hotel is a large, modern facility, yet decorated with distinctive Italian charm. There are plenty of good restaurants and wine bars around. There are three negatives: 1) The Internet is provided by Swisscom, which charges you excessively. Thus the hotel does not offer wifi. 2) A double bed still mean two mattresses in Italy although they were here tied well together and did not fall apart. However it is not very comfortable to sleep where the mattresses join. 3) The presentation on the internet (both Venere and the hotel's own site) contains too few pictures of the rooms.

The hotel was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is within walking distance of Vatican, Spanish Steps, Piazzo Navona, etc. There are excellent restuarants and cafes very close by (at least 10 different ones to choose from). I recommend L'Osteria di Cicerone. Shops close by on Via Cola di Rienzo. Only 2 small issues (i) taxi to airport was very expensive - 55Euros in car booked by hotel; and (ii) no plug for bath in hotel.

Our room at the Cicero was great and we were very happy with the location and the service. Not only did the hotel provide a crib for our infant as we had requested, they made it up special with its own coverlet and pillow...a nice little touch. The bed was comfortable and a good size. The AC was especially welcome after a long day of sightseeing in the heat (although it was still very humid which made it feel like the sheets were damp). There was no view…our room overlooked a rather ugly courtyard…and the room was a little small. But even with the crib, our suitcases, and a stroller, there was still room to move around. There was no noise at night and even during the day when they were cleaning nearby rooms, it was reasonably quiet…I could hear the vacuum but it didn’t prevent the baby (or my husband) from taking a nap. We thought the location was good and walked everywhere except to the forum. For that trip, the concierge got us a taxi quickly and the cost was only about 10 Euros. We came back after dark a couple of times and didn't feel threatened in any way. There is a grocery store only a few blocks away which was great. Breakfast was adequate. I didn’t care for the eggs but the cappuccino was great and the staff was friendly. They have at least one high chair. The only complaint I have was that there was no place to get coffee before the breakfast room opened...not good for early risers and those with planes to catch. We would stay at the Cicerone again.
