hotel front view
The hotel Del Gianicolo is a luxurious Rome retreat that enjoys a truly stunning location. The road leading to the hotel winds its way along the crest of the Gianicolo hill, shaded by splendid umbrella pines.
It is lined by busts of Garibaldi's men and a monument of Garibaldi himself, followed by that of his wife Anita.
Furthermore, along the walk you may admire breathtaking views over Rome: from Villa Medici to San Giovanni in Laterano and, in the distance, the hills of Albano.
The midday cannon is fired daily below the parapet. Further ahead there is an old stump; here once stood the oak tree beneath which Tasso used to sit.
From here as well, you may glimpse spectacular views of Rome: Castel Sant'Angelo, the Dome of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, the Dome of San Carlo al Corso, Trinità dei Monti, the Quirinal Palace, the Pantheon, the Dome of Sant'Andrea della Valle with the lower dome of the Church of Jesus.
In addition, guests can see the Militia Tower, with the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, and the flat façade of Santa Maria dell'Aracoeli.
The hotel offers a very professional service and a wide range of amenities, such as an Internet Point in the lobby, to make every stay a wonderful experience.

This hotel is a short walk to all the sites of downtown Rome however, it is also a welcome place to relax. The pool is refreshing and the staff is always helpful.

this hotel is on a traffic island but has a nice pool which is perfect in very hot weather to come back to and relax. We found the staff excellent. They recommended an outstanding restaurant located at the back of the hotel on our arrival. its a short walk to the vatican and a overall a great hotel for visiting Rome if you use the excellent public bus service

Large public area, large rooms for Rome, and of course the location is great. this is a pretty good value for the money in Rome, and parking at Villa Borgehese is within walking distance.

A lovely hotel with lovely garden & great pool(even though we did not get to use it) . Rooms were on the small side but public rooms and grounds made up for that. Easy access to Trastevere but out of the way if you want to be in central Rome the whole time- need to walk a distance or catch taxis. Breakfast room stunning.

The room was not ready when we arrived (2 hours after the check-in time). They said that the room was going to be on the 2nd floor but then they gave us a very small room right next to reception where we could hear all the talking between customers and employees, and the phone ringing all day long. They were very unpleasent when we asked to move to another room. We insisted and they finaly agreed to make the room change on the next morning. Since then they had an unprofessional and rude behaviour with us. The worst experience in a hotel ever.

We (couple 45/50) had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Del Gianicolo. The breakfast was perfect - delicious food in a beautiful room with vintage jazz music in the background. Very nice (and quite spacious) room. Friendly staff. Some noise from traffic, but not very much by Roman standards. Excellent location, 10 - 15 min walk down to Trastevere, with wonderful view of the city.

For the first time we stayed at Hotel Del Gianicolo. We spent 7 days in Rome as we did in 2003 and we will come back again as soon as possible. Our bathroom (room no. 214)shows signs of mould at the window and near the bath tube also at the curtain. The jacuzzi-type bath tube makes no sense instead impedes one`s movements. Although we could switch off the air-condition which spread an arctic cold (for what reason?)we nevertheless had to fill in a flap with paper to stop indirect inflooding cold air. After this "operation" we felt comfortably . Once again the air-condition: the hotel`s corridors are extremely cold. Why? Breakfast: "Cafe Americano" is almost undrinkable! Why not try simple instant coffee? Thanks for nice days in the Hotel Del Gianicolo . We hope to drop in again! Eckart Fiene

Bel emplacement sur la colinne Janicule. A 2mn, les vues sur Rome sont magnifiques. A ne pas rater. RAS sur l'hotel. A good location on the Gianicolo hill. Outstanding views on Roma, close to the hotel. Recommand sunup and sunset walks!

The staff is not especially welcoming, even though I have stayed here many times. The rooms are nicely appointed but small, but with very good bathrooms. Soundproofing is an issue. The location is wonderfully convenient if one is driving to the airport.

Location for us was ideal been away from the centre but still within walking distance, however you have to be fit to climb the hill ! Is was great to have some outside space to sit and relax after a hard days sight-seeing

We arrived for the local holiday with not many restaurants open, we had to walk 20 mins to nearest, although very good was quite a trek. Picked the hotel for the pool, which was being renovated. Room was smaller than tiny and hotel smelled of smoke. Only plus was breakfast, very good selection. However, wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. It is situated about a 15 minute walk from the Vatican on a hill overlooking Rome. Very quiet and very peaceful yet easy to access Rome. The view of Rome just a few steps down from the hotel at the park was fabulous. The rooms were gorgeous and the breakfasts fabulous. The pool was a great hit with the kids, though they all had to wear swim caps (which were available for purchase at the front desk). The staff was delightful and very helpful.

A delightful hotel, although slightly out of the way for cafes and restaurants. The surrounding hotel gardens were beautiful and relaxing after the bustle of the City. The staff were very helpful and obliging and spoke very good English.

The hotel and surroundings are beautiful, it is just such a shame that they don't have a good desk staff as well. One gentleman in particular was rude and quite put out at just the slightest question. Our room was like an oven and when we couldn't get the AC to come on, we were told that they control it at the desk. We asked if they would please turn it up for us (twice) but they never did. My advice, stay elsewhere!

Very nice in a traditional Italian style. The dated jacuzzi bathtub was a bit alarming. The room with lovely and the setting above the city very special. The neighborhood is one of old villas and an old atmospheric park. It will be good when the hotel gets their permits some day to complete the restaurant.

This was a speciel trip for my moms 60th birthday and i had booked this hotel a full 3 months before arrival. On arrival we were informed our reservation had been cancelled! My original bookingwas for 2 triple rooms and I then added a further 2 double rooms for additional people who pulled out so it was this reservation i cancelled. As it was on completely different reservation number I had no idea the hotel would choose to cancel both bookings. We were told they would sort out rooms for us and that we were `lucky`(!) and after an hour wait we were shown to our rooms. The rooms were fine although I was dissapointed with the size of the triple and found the camp bed unsuitable for an adult. We all found the majority of the reception staff to be quite rude and unhelpful, and since the incident on the first day we were made to feel we should be grateful to be staying there. On the last day of our trip we went to check out and were casually told was there was a taxi strike!!!He left us standing there whilst he proceeded to check out an italian guest who had came up behind us .He then said he would try and see if he could arrange a car for us, in 15 mins, as they offer an pick up/drop off service to the airport. Which of course we would have availed of had we been informed of a strike. When we had waited with no luck he gave us wrong directions to the bus stop to catch a train. We were seriously panicked for time and trying to run with a pushchair, car seat, luggage and a 60 year old was terrible!! We just made it as our check out was closed they had sympathy due to the strike and checked us in.The attendent at the airport could not believe we were not informed as it was announced the previous day. This lack of simple courtesy really but a dampener on the end of our holiday. On the positive the breakfast was good and the pool guy really friendly.Would not recommend this hotel to anyone who doesnt speak perfect italian.

Lovely hotel, a bit away from hustle of centre of Rome. Great pool,(free to residents, so don't be put of by price list at front desk). Bus stops near by, we bought week long tickets from nearby news-stand,very reasoneable. Our only problem was that venere had made a mix-up with our room request(they did this on a prevous booking also), but the hotel sorted it out. Good breakfasts out every morning, lots of fresh fruit, cereals, rolls, pastries etc and staff will make hot choc or macchiato on request. Word of warning, at time we arrived taxis were on strike which made it difficult for holiday makers especially on arrival or departure for those taking bus to or from airport, fortunatley we had pre-booked private taxi pickup online. Overall Rome is fantastic, sights are wonderfull as is food in restaurants. Prices vary depending on how close to main piazzas you dine out at. Would definetly return to Rome.

It was indicated in Venere that this hotel provided a free wifi web connection. In fact , they tried to make me pay to get this and the connection was very very poor (quite impossible to surf). A good point for the breakfast , in a beautiful room and with a good service and attractive food.

I was travelling with my 11 year old son. We enjoyed our stay. The breakfast buffet was very good. The staff were always ready to help and there was always someone around who spoke English. Our only small gripe was that we would have liked twin beds not a double. The area is a bit workaday Rome but the walk down into Trastevere doesn't take long and there is the most amazing view to look at on the way. I would recommend this hotel to travellers who are looking for somewhere comfortable and quiet, reasonably priced but not too far out of the centre. Nice in summer, with own garden and pool and surrounded by parks. Parents of young children should be aware there is no pavement outside the hotel entrance and traffic can be busy.

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. I have been to Rome once before and stayed near the train station. Staying in Trastevere was a welcome change. The rooms were spacious and very lovely. We were there in Feb 2007, so obviously we weren't able to use the pool. But it must be quite the place to be in the summer months. The staff and service were wonderful. We came in late one night from a tour and we asked if they could assist us in ordering some food. Not only did they do that, they opened their dining room and served our take-out food there. I'd definitely go back again!

We staid seven days in Rome (six nights at Grand Hotel Del Gianicolo). Our room was small but very clean and pretty. Employees were very nice and obliging. The breakfast was hearty, fantastic. This Hotel is very near the Trastevere.

Would happily recommend the Gianicolo to anyone. The rooms were well appointed, staff always friendly and helpful, and the rooms were spotless. Perhaps the only complaint is that sound traveled well - I could hear the mumbled conversations of my neighbors through the walls.

Had a fabulous time in the ideal location for a summer break in Rome, the pool is a welcome relief in the heat of summer after a morning sight seeing. Transport services into the centre are excellent but it is not too far to walk and the views on the way down were stunning. The staff were all friendly and very helpful, airport pickup and drop off helped a great deal. If we ever return to Rome and I'm sure we will this hotel will be my first choice.

Nice hotel. Lovely swimming pool that was a real bonus as it was so hot. Pool is free to residents of the hotel so don,t be put off by price list for use of pool at the front desk, this is for people not staying at hotel. Hotel is a bit far from centre of Rome and as it at top of a steep hill, not pleasant to walk to in 33c heat. Fortunately there is a bus stop near by & service is very good. Breakfasts were lovely. Only problem we had was that Venere had not passed on our change in room size request from double to triple for our family who were with us, this meant our 1st night we all had to change sleeping arrangments but hotel sorted this next day.

Sehr empfehlenswertes Hotel.

This hotel is well placed for sight-seeing in Rome. It is a 15 minute walk into Trastevere where there are plenty of restaurants. However, the hotel is on a hill and it is a hard walk down sloping paths and steep steps so don't book here if you are not fit. Our room was a triple and was plenty big enough for 3. Lovely jakuzzi bath with hairdryer and slippers provided for guests. Breakfast was excellent buffet with fruit, cereal, cakes and croissants, cheeses, ham and quiche, juices and coffee. We stayed 5 nights in mid-January 06. If you are not interested in museums then 4 days is more than enough. It rained for 1 day and this made sight-seeing very miserable. It was quite cold morning and evening so take plenty of warm clothes. Try to learn some italian as english is not widely spoken and I think they would be more friendly if we made more effort. The hotel organised airport transfers for us at E55 which we greatly appreciated as it is a long and tortuous journey from Ciampino airport. As a last word, I wouldn't go to Rome again - it is dirty and covered in grafitii and the people are mostly unfriendly or downright rude (shop assistants particularly) and unsmiling. There are lots of beggars and street sellers which you get used to stepping over, or declining but it gets a bit wearing. If you must go to Rome this is an excellent hotel to stay in.

The breakfast you offered was exceedingly generous and provided a great range of excellent quality food. Perhaps it was the language barrier (we speak English), but the staff at the front desk did not exhibit much warmth or enthusiasm for their roles as service providers. The breakfast staff, however, was attentive.

Rooms were tiny and service was so-so. However, the rooms were well kept and the hotel was in a great location in Trastevere. The prices were out of line for a hotel with no in-house restaurant. Next time I would look for a hotel with a price comensurate with the size of the room and one with a restaurant.

Nice, but expensive hotel. Beautiful roofgarden, which was closed during our week at this hotel. Excellent breakfast with freshly prepared italian coffee specialties. Nice personal. No restaurant at the hotel. Restaurant nearby with new age design and normal food quality, but prices triple than normal. You better go down the hill to Trastevere. To pay attention to handbag thieves, we observed the picking of a handbag by two yougsters at a Piaggio nearby the viewpoint. overall conclusion: nice hotel in relatively quiet quarter of rome, but poor services after breakfast. Walls were very sensible to talks in the neighbour rooms.

Excellent staff - especially the two Daniels - so accommodating and courteous. The grounds were beautifully kept, and because I stayed over a week, I felt that I had a taste of what it was to live in Italy, albeit a higher-priced neighborhood. I loved the proximity to the parks, and the buses. I recommend this hotel highly, and will return if ever I am in Rome again.
