very clean comfortable hotel. We shared a bath and it was kept very clean. Nice terrace, also kept very clean--we enjoyed our wine there at night. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Little noisy as on the street but the breeze was worth keeping the windows open. I would stay there again

If you want an inexpensive hotel in a not-so-special area of rome this is for you. it seemed to cater mostly to backpackers and college students, and as a result had a fairly impersonal restrictive feeling. the bathroom was dirty but the room was clean. the termini neighborhood is blah, though easy for quick trips through. for the money though, it was fine.

The noise level in the hotel was unacceptable. Artistes fail to mention that they have large bunk rooms with beds at €20 a night next to rooms at €150. It was like trying to sleep through an all night party with people banging on doors - including ours and shouting. The lift is also quite noisy as it has two sets of doors which slam shut. The reception is on the 5th floor and consequently the lift is used 24/7, however that was the least of our problems. They insisted that we pay up front on arrival, which we found most unusual. We moved hotels for the last two nights and had problems getting them to agree a refund those nights. We asked for a refund for one of the nights which we had not slept at all but were refused. Locally, Artistes is regarded as a Hostel not an Hotel.

We were put in a hostel room in a different building which did not correspond at all to the photos on the website. The room had an adequate space heater but the hall and bathroom were not heated and we were there in January and it was cold. Only one sink in the bathroom had water and the shower area was too small to hang clothes to put on after the shower and keep them dry. We could hear the toilet flush several rooms away in our room not to mention the other tourists coming in at 3am. It was a horrible experience.

the website states this hotel is a bed and breakfast. it is only a bed and breakfast if u have ordered a room with a bathroom. if u happen to have booked a bedroom with a shared bathroom, not only do u have to que every time u wish to use the bathroom, in the mornings u have to pay for ur breakfast.
when i stayed at the hotel, several guests complained they had been mislead aswell and i witnessed several arguments with staff regarding this matter.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, free intenet access from 2pm to 12. Nice roof top garden to relax and rest the feet with a local beer from the common room. Good location - near main Railway station 10mins walk. Reception on the 5th floor - lift can be tempermental.

Hotel messed up the reservation and put us into a dormatory with no towles and not much bedding. Were happy to have left us there had we not asked to be moved to a proper room. Basic hotel for back-packers.

The staff at this hotel was quite helpful, and friendly. We were quite excited by free internet access, and the roof garden was a nice spot to relax. Unfortunately, our room was located right next to the shared bath, which made things a bit noisy early in the morning. Also, the shared bath ran out of TP upon occassion, and could have benefited from a rug or extra towels to soak up water from the floor. The location of this hotel is also one negative, although hardly something they can help, and it is close to metro stop. Restaurants in the neighborhood were so-so for the most part, although we had one of the best meals of our lives at Africa around the corner.

Was not up to the level of the personal attention and care (not to mention value) at Hotel Desiree in Sorrento, but this was Rome and Des Artistes was much better than the 4 star hotel that we stayed in at the end of our trip. Were not very helpful when it came to dining recommendations.

We really did not enjoy our stay here. The walls were painfully thin and you could here every word of every conversation in the next rooms. Furthermore, it seemed that there were lots of people leaving and checking in around 5-6am so it was pretty hard to get a good sleep. The location of the hotel was pretty good, a five minute walk from the train station, the staff was friendly, and it was cheap but this essentially is a backpacker hotel. If you dont mind a lot of noise you should be fine but if you can find a hotel for a similar price, i would recomend choosing another hotel. I would not stay here again.

we stayed for threee nights, unfortunately the weather was to cold for using the terrasse in the morning for breakfast. the staff was friendly, but they don't like to see anyone before 7.30 for breakfast ;-). so if you have to go to the train or airport in the morning, you'll have to anounce this. By the way: from Ciampino airport to the the center (st. termini) it takes just about 30min travelling time. and costs only 3,30€ (bus & train).

Although I reserved the triple room without a bath, the room was a dormitory type room. The room was used by three persons. There were six bed in the room, we felt the room was narrow. Moreover, we thought that facilities of the room was not good. For example, the projection of television was bad, we were hardly able to watch television. The number of electric bulbs has only a half, we thought that the room was dark. However, we thought receptionist was polite and gentle.

Very nice and helpful receptions (except for the old laddy >_<!). Bargain price for 3 stars hotel, but room near to toilet is quite noisy due to the water flushing sound. No power showing in the shared bathroom ...would be nice if it has!

We were satisfied with our accomodations at Hotel Des Artisites, as compared to other accomodations we know are available at the same price. The beds were very comfortable and everything clean. The bedrooms were nicely appointed with furnishings and original art work, and the staff were very nice, even when we complained about being able to hear the tv and conversations and everything else...if ya know what I mean...someone sneezed and we said salute and the man replied, Gratzie...ok, he did not reply, really but it was a problem the first night and the second and third were ok. There are several nice inexpensive resturants nearby, and supermarkets. The reception is on the top floor which we were imformed of but I forgot, and the climb up was a reminder. There is a small lift that worked well, but sometimes does not come up to the full level, by about 3 inches, but, hey.Welcome to Roma. Good value, comfortable beds, nice people.

I booked a family room (for four) and it was really depressing - lino on the floor, horrible low energy lighting and not like the photos on the website at all. I couldn't work out why this place got good reviews. I complained and we were moved to a room for three with an extra bed. This was very nice (and did correspond to the photos).
When we were there, if you had your own bathroom they gave you breakfast and if you shared, they didn't.

I'm afriad I felt a bit disappointed with my stay. We were staying in a twin room not ensuite which was clearly of much lower quality than the rooms we had viewed on the website. The ensuite rooms looked amazing and we assumed that the non-ensuite rooms would be of a good atandard. However, the rooms were very small, the door to our room stuck and the bathroom smelt.

We had a family room with 6 beds and window towards the back side of the building. It was very quiet - we could sleep with open window.
An open question: Where will 6 persons put their clothes and other stuff in this room? There is only one single cabinet! We stayed there with only 4 persons and lived more or less "out of the suitcase".

Overall, we were very sastisfied with Hotel des Artistes. Staying near the Termini was not my first choice, and it turned out that the hotel is not as close to the station as the most senior member of our party would have liked (it is about two blocks from the Castro Pretorio metro stop). The English-speaking staff were friendly and helpful, although we had trouble receiving our faxes. Our triple was spacious and well-appointed, making up for the less-than-desirable neighborhood, and the breakfast buffet was generous by Italian standards. Two minor complaints: although "free Internet" service is advertised, there are too few terminals and too long of a wait (I never got a chance to log on), and the elevator is very small and slow--be prepared to wait or use the stairs. Again, minor quibbles for a generally pleasant stay.

Would recommend staying here. Good facilities, clean/nice rooms, free internet. Breakfast was a bit expensive. But otherwise pretty good. Only criticism is the disparity in room prices. I found it difficult to understand why we were paying one price and other people seemed to be getting "better" deals.

This turned out to be a great place to stay for the money. We had a private room with shared bath. The room was large, comfortable, clean and quiet. Although better and brighter lighting would have made it more comfortable for reading. The bathrooms were always clean. The roof deck is a great place to share a bottle or wine or drink a couple of beers after a day of touring. The hotel is conveniently located near Termini station and the metro. Restaurants in the area are hit or miss, but the metro makes it convenient to go out to a nicer place. The receptionist are very accomodating, helpful, friendly and fluent in English.

Stayed for one night. Chose this hotel because it was close to the Railway station (<10 minutes by foot) and the price (paid 56 euros for a double). Spacious rooms, good beds, clean showers (although often occupied in the morning). Beautiful old elevator. Nice bonus : free internet. The best hotel of my journey through Europe.

Pleased with all aspects of my stay. The office on an upper floor was ususual. The room faced the street, and with the window open, the noise level was very obvious. (The air conditioning did not cool the room enough to keep the window closed all night).Sorry to have missed breakfast! If there was a sign in the room with the times it was served ,perhaps it should be more prominent. If there was not a sign, perhaps there could/should be.Overall , the hotel was charming !! Anita Ferris

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. Our room was very nice, although more toilets would be nice as they were always 'occupied'. The location, etc was first class. I have nothing but praise. We had a wonderful 3 days in Rome.
The hotel is on a very good location, convenient to the Metro.
We are recommending the hotel to our friends and family.

The Hotel is easy to find and very close to the Main Train Station, you can go by foot. The Metro-Station to all other places in Rome is round the corner. Restaurants are all around the Hotel. The best of the Hotel is the roof-deck for breakfast, sunbathing or drinking wine and beer in an oasic athmosphaere, open till 2:00 am. The rooms have exelent beds, this is important especially for Germans. The Hotel has the cleanest shared bathrooms I´ve ever seen. Nice goody: free internet surfing. Next trip to Rome we will take the Hotel again.

A very convenient hotel for all public services to places of interest. Registration on the top floor was rather inconvenient and the elevator was very cramped (understandably due to the constraints of the building , but still less than ideal). Staff efficient and friendly, breakfasts excellent, rooms clean. Good value for money

We had a pleasant stay at Des Artistes Dependance. Rooms, service and location were very good. Nice extras: a gratis safe in our room, a nice roof garden and free internet access (although PCs were always occupied for excessive intercontinental chats).
We had shared bathrooms which were mostly occupied in the mornings (and of course not very clean anymore), so we decided to take showers in the late afternoons. It would be perfect if the hotel had toilets separate from the shower rooms!
The noise from traffic outside was low (side street!), however, some cleaning ladies did not care about silence in the corridors early in the morning. Anyhow: we can recommend this hotel!

Hotel location is very good, close to train station but not in front of it and close to metro station, restaurants and atractions. We had a room with shared bathroom and the only comment would be to clean it more often due to the number of persons who use it.
The attention of the staff was great, they helped us since the first moment, were very friendly and we did not have problem with language. Congratulations!

The reception clerk kept talking to my husband, when I was the one who'd made the reservation and who was speaking in Italian -- this ticked me off! Also, the restaurant recommended by the hotel was mediocre and geared toward Americans who wanted Ameri-Italian food, which we did not. DIdn't like having to return the room key to the 5th floor reception from our 2nd floor room whenever we left the building.
The hotel itself has nice enough rooms but I guess we were expecting much more for the money, after the place we stayed in Florence (which was much nicer for 30 euro less/night)

The hotel was conveniently near to the center. Everything was in walking distance. Watch out for pickpockets!! Especially on the buslines nr 64 and 40. We liked to go on internet in the hotelrestaurant. The employees were very helpful with reserving concerts and citytours. Make sure the reservation for the citytours on the Green Line Bus has gone through. In our case the hotel forgot but they made up for it by making other arrangements to have us on the Green Line Tour we wanted.

I highly recommend Hotel Des Artistes. Its staff is very friendly and incredibly helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean, and more importantly, there is an elevator! It's location is also very convinient--just a few blocks from the central train station. My only two complaints are the less than pleasant smell that is often present and the lack of cleanlinss in the bathrooms. But I guess the latter is also in part due to the guests. Overall, I definitely think you get more than your money's worth.

Staying at this location made getting around Rome easy. The rooms were well maintained. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast provided was plentiful with wonderful cappucino. We asked to extend our stay by one day and were moved to a room overlooking the street which was a little noisy.
