This hotel had a central location at a very good price. Within walking distance of the main railway station as well as most historic attractions.

I stayed there for three nights, I found the staff very helpful. They recommended the Roma pass which was a very good idea for me, they were friendly and helpful. On the other hand, I think the price was way too high for the room I had. It was very small, not very clean and I did not fit in the shower cubicle. Also I find paying an extra 10 Euros a night for air conditioning plus the price of the room utterly ridiculous.

Good value for the money. Some rooms are more spacious than others but in general very small. Clean rooms and bathroom. One of the few hotels in Italy with free wireless internet. The staff was extremely helpful. The location is very convenient, close to Termini and it is very easy to take buses to go around the city.

The staff at HOTEL ITALIA is the best staff in Europe! They are so accommodating and pleasant and beyond competent. The only thing we didn't LOVE this time was the room. It was a bit smaller than last year and the air conditioning wasn't as cold AND the toilet and shower made horrifically loud noises. But we would stay at HOTEL ITALIA again--even in the same room--because we really feel at home there!

Just correct according to the price. Very small and noisy rooms. The big surprise was that the rooms were in a batiment on the other side of the road, 2nd floor, and we had to pay to use the lift !

i would love to see hotels with fridges and coffee and tea making facilities. the cost of food is so high in europe that having no fridges etc means we must pay for every cup of coffee (except breakfast) and every morsel of food we eat, can't even store sandwich facilities with no fridge, this makes it very hard to be able to afford to come back

Wonderful hotel. We were traveling with a party of six and had requested 2 rooms but were pleasantly surprised on our arrival to be upgraded to a huge apartment (at the same price) so we could all stay together. Staff was very helpful.

We loved staying at Hotel Italia as it was very conveniently located. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was great. We took a quad room. The staff even held our bags for us when we visited Venice for 2 nights. The only downside I can think of is the bathroom was very cramped and the water would come out of the shower onto the floor!

We were very happy with the Hotel Italia. For a short stay in Rome it is quite good. We were travelling with two small boys and the hotel was more than accomodating. The family room was a bit cramped as in order to fit four of us they simply took a triple room and added another single bed. But, for one night it was fine. If you need it, the receptionist spoke perfect English. The breakfast was to a high standard as well, with multiple selections of breads and meats. The location is OK. Termini is easily walkable. You can also walk to the Coloseum and the Forum quite easily and thus, the Capitoline. Old Rome and the Vatican are a taxi or underground ride away. This hotel was very good value for money and would stay there again on a short stay.

I wish all European employees of small basic hotels went to the same training school as maybe the ones at the "Itlia" have been to. From the reception staff, chambermaids, lady who does the breakfast. They are excellent. Nothing seems too much trouble for any of them. It was my second stay at this hotel 3 years apart, it has improved in service, and although as a single traveller I only ever get a small room everything else makes up for it.

This is a great part of the city to be in. The air conditioning cost an extra 10 Euros a night and was necessary. The shower head would not stay in the correct place and even though this was mentioned nothing was done about it. One of the staff was excellent and booked museum trips etc, at no extra cost. The breakfast was average.

Hotel Italia is conveniently located since it's just a 10 min walk to the Stazione Termini and buses are also available just across the street. The hotel is also in walking distance to many of Ancient Rome's famous attractions such as the Colosseo, the Foro, Fontana di Trevi and others. The staff is courteous and very helpful with any information or service needed. A communication plus is that there is free internet service. The breakfast room is small but very elegant and the hotel staff is very attentive. Breakfast is good with a variety of croissants, cheeses, cereals, and yogurts. The hotel is located on the second floor but there is an elevator so there is no stress with luggage. Since there is so much to see in Rome the best part is feeling safe even when walking around late at night. Oh, don't forget to get a gelato when you visit the Fontana di Trevi. If in Rome again, I'd certainly choose this hotel.

Room a bit small, but comfortable. Extractor in bathroom very noisy and took a long time to turn off, but this was remedied by just turning on the lights over the sink. Friendly staff and breakfast is fine. Could hear the other rooms, but this is an old palazzo - we wouldn't expect anything else really!

Just an overnight in Rome, we found the hotel to be very clean tidy and within easy walk to the rail station. This was important for us because we were arriving one day and leaving early the next and needed to be close to the station. The hotel was quiet and exactly as stated in the advertizing. Our only complaint was that we had an internal room and it was very stuffy. The window opened to an internal courtyard that was a service courtyard so there was no fresh air when we opened the window. There was an airconditioner available but we were there in May and it was obviously not in use. Bathroom was tiny and the shower only just fit a medium sized man, but I found it OK. Otherwise very clean and well run hotel.

This is a great value for price bargen with a very eager to help staff. The staff located for me a product I looked for in Rome and could not find (electronic dictionary). Attention to special needs (soy based cappucino made with soy mily I brough from the store) Easy access to all attractions. Comfortable bad. Free internet (most other hotels we visited in Italy asked 2-3 euros for 30 minutes). It is definitly our hotel in Rome.

Location is good for Termini railway station, though it can be difficult to find without a good map. On a small side-street off the Via Nazionale however, the rooms are quiet and you still have the convenience of plenty of nearby restaurants. Have stayed in two of the triple rooms and both were quite spacious, looking freshly renovated. The bathrooms however are very small, but clean and relatively modern. The continental buffet breakfast is basic but fine. There is free internet access from a laptop in the lobby. Staff friendly. I'd certainly recommend the hotel.

4 nights stay. Small and clean hotel, very well placed in Roma specifically when you arrive in the city by train at Termini (10 minutes walk). Right on main bus lines. From previous comments on Venere, we expected small room and shower but it was not the case. We stayed accross the street (a new part of the hotel) where it seems rooms are larger than the older part of the hotel. So I was positively surprised at arrival. Only thing wrong was remote control of TV : it never worked even after reception gave us new batteries. But then, you are not in Roma to watch TV. Brekfast was fine, you have cold slice of pizza if you want. Employees are welcoming and helpfull (thanks Nadine!). Of course we were able to leave our luggage the last day before to take our train back at night.

The one window in our room looked out over a courtyard of air conditioners or other such equipment, so it was noisy having the window open. Internet access is free but they charge 1 euro per page to print, which they neglected to tell me until I had 4 pages printed. They called a driver for us on the morning of our departure who was ready and waiting to take us to the airport and got us there in good time. Cost was 50 euro.

Hotel was as described on the web site. There were double pane windows to keep street noise out, but the door and walls were not that sound proof. Fortunately most people were quiet so it wasn't too much of an issue. I was in a building across the street and 2 floors up. Might be a problem for some people. The shower was really small, there were folding glass doors and I kept hitting them when I was in the shower. I think a 6ft. tall man would find it impossible. Staff very helpful.

All the hotels in the center are expensive, so this one was quite acceptable according to the price offered. The Hotel is close to the Metro station, so it is enough to reach any destination. Finaly, if somebody is knowing that he is going to travel in Rome and needs hotel only for night, this hotel is good choice.

I stayed at Hotel Italia for about a week in April. All of the staff are incredibly helpful and kind. While I was in Rome my wallet was stolen and I also got sick - the receptionist called my room just to see how I was feeling and to see if I needed anything. She was genuinely concerned about how I was. The hotel is in a great location! It's very close to Termini Station and is easily walking distance to the Colosseum and Forum. Also, the hotel has brochures for a few tourist agencies nearby so you can book your tours. They also sell the Roma Pass which will really come in handy for your trip!

The hotel was very well located within walking distance of Termini Station, Santa Maria Maggiore, Fontana di Trevi, Colosseo and Foro Traiano. The room and the bathroom were small and very noisy in the morning, as our room was close to the kitchen. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A little overpriced, but maybe worth it because of the good location.

The space of the room and its utility is reasonable to its 200 Euro charge per night. The hotel has free wi-fi, but only usable at lobby or breakfast room as mentioned in the website. In the quad room, the signal was too weak, but other wi-fi signal from somewhere is detectable and probably I could connect it if I accept charges. Another point I want to mention is, Pizzeria Venezzia, very good Italien dishes and awesomely adorable cat welcomes you.

I travelled with my wife and my baby and our stay at the hotel was fine. The staff at the reception was very supportive providing all kind of information requested regarding turistic places and restaurants. The room size was bigger than expected and the only one I would remark as not comfortable is the lift. It is one of those typical old elevators with double door which requires your manul opening of both doors and besides the inside doors are opened towards into. Thus, one person with luggage is more than enought for its usage.

excellent location 15minutes walk to the coliseum all visitors sites within walking distance. All the receptionists were fluent in English, and were extremely helpful in giving directions or advising you on visitors attractions, even to the point of booking in advance to sites of interest (domus aurea) Nero's house. The breakfast was excellent, the room was quiet, clean with usual facilities. There was a laptop in the reception area, for your use. I can not praise the hotel enough. stress free Hotel. beautifully situated on the main street(via Nazionale) Irish pub, not far away, plenty of cafe` bars, restaurants. Do not really need to throw a coin in the Trevi fountain to return to Rome. This hotel makes the whole experience superb. Ps Do not forget to by your Roma Pass from reception, absolutely invaluable.

We stayed in a double room. It was quite small; there was no place to put our luggage out of the way, the shower was so small that, when I dropped the soap, I couldn't bend over to pick it up, and the elevator was barely large enough for my wife and me with our luggage. Nevertheless, the place was very clean and comfortable, the staff was helpful, and, overall, the Italia is a good budget hotel for Rome.

Excellent little hotel, easy to walk from the Termini station and further to the attractions in Rome. After the initial problem of finding out how to get into the hotel (arrived late and the front door was locked) and finding the reception, we had a fantastic stay in Rome. Most of the things you want to see and do are within walking distance. The staff at the Italia are very courteous and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very nice, especially the coffee and pastries.

We've been here a couple of times, and its been a pleasure. It's within walking distance of the city centre, the rooms are comfortable and clean. The only fault we had on this occasion was the bathroom extractor fan came on with the light-switch and was deafening! It continued long after the light was switched off. This was remedied by turning the light over the sink on instead. A nice touch was the panetone and Baci choccies waiting for us in the room.

This is a great little hotel - not fancy but clean, friendly and comfortable. The shower doors were probably the oddest characteristic of the room -- if you are much overweight, you won't be able to get into the shower without squeezing past the doors. Otherwise, we found it a most welcoming and enjoyable hotel.

The hotel is very well located specially for the restaurant and the trattoria downstairs! You can go walking to el Foro Romano. My room was very small and spartan, though very clean. A major concern was that the one window opened onto a hall so there was no fresh air - it was very warm. Staff were very nice and helpful. We stayed in this Hotel for 4 days, 2 nights in a double room & 2 nights in a single room. The rooms were clean, but very small, especially when we were paying 130 eur per night for a double. The hotel is walking distance to the main station and close to all the attractions, so this is a plus for this hotel. I think this hotel charges too much for its rooms, since the rooms are small and most of the rooms have no view at all (literally) the next wall is about 10 feet away, so there is no airflow. Considering we stayed when it was hot, we were given the option to use the a/c for 10 eur per night. The staff are pretty friendly and let us store one of our bags with them for a few days.

My wife and I loved this pensione. It was very close to downtown Rome. Having read other comments we were smart enough to bring earplugs as we could hear our neighbors (although they were a quiet older couple)and street noise, and the staff was welcoming, bilingual, and had excellent recommendations for restaurants and events. Overall we would rate this very highly and would definitely recommend. The continental breakfast was a little disappointing but we just slept in from then on and had a big lunch! We got directions from www.theaa.com and walked there in 10 minutes from the train station. Don't bother with a cab.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was very clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was better than average, was plenty to eat there and attended by a grandmotherly elderly lady. The free wireless internet service from the lobby worked well and is not common in Italy. This allowed me to make phone calls via Skype and was very nice to have. I had initially skipped this hotel because of its 2 star rating then saw it in Rick Steves book and were recommended by a friend. It is a nice clean place that is enough off the busy streets that the noise level is very tolerable. We had a little hard time initially finding the hotel. Hint: from the train station walk out the front until you come to the big fountain and traffic circle in Republicca Plazza. Cross the busy street and walk the inside of the circle next to the McDonalds. This should put you on Via Nationale which you need to walk down several streets but the hotel is on the left. This is within walking distance of the Colliseum area, and is fairly close to the Metro stop which works well to get closer to the Vatican.

The quality and price were fair considering that I wanted to stay close to the city center. I rate them low on quietness and spaciousness, but for the price and location it was fair. The only thing I would advice other travelers that may stay at Hotel Italia, is that they lock the main door at night (a good thing), and you have to get buzzed in. However, the night employee may have to watch two hotels right across the street from each other and one night he was not happy that he had to cross the street to let us in. It kind of upset me that he was rather rude about it.

The hotel was fine for the price. It wasn't in the best area, next to the train station, but it had 2 rooms for 4 people each at a decent price. It is difficult to find quad rooms in Italy. Good if you're on a budget. Quite a bit of a walk to the Leaning Tower, but do-able even with young kids.

Wonderful staff & breakfast. Good size rooms & bathroom. Very clean & very quiet although right on Via Nazionale. 24 hr pharmacy one block away (we needed it!), grocery store right across Via Nazionale. Would definitely return in a minute! This was our second trip to Rome but our first stay here.

Good location and decent price. They had a laptop at the front desk they let us use for free. Our room was located above a kitchen so we heard alot of dishes clanging in the morning. Other than that it was great.

The staff was wonderful! The location was excellent. We had trouble finding it from the train station but once we found it we were fine. You may want to send directions from the train station. We ate at a place recommended a few blocks away off via nationale by Sabrina called Cafe Bosca? Bocca? It was excellent!

Can be difficult to find, and virtually inaccessible by (private) car, but it's in a quiet location in an area with good facilities and transport. Great Pizzaria (Est Est Est) in next road - get there early to avoid disappointment.

Single Room 38 : very small, yet very quiet! Bathroom & Room were absolutely clean! Air conditionning working! Breakfast is acceptable. Location is perfect, as it is at a walking distance from train station/subway station. Staff is very polite and forward coming. They offer to keep your luggage the last day of your stay. Overall, though the price/quality ratio is probably not the best in Rome, I would say that my journey at Hotel Italia was very pleasant anyway.

I will always remember the Hotel Italia as I was robbed on the Metro in Rome and lost my son's and my passport as well as my credit cards. Without the people at the Hotel Italia, I would not have known where to turn. They simply took control and made all the necessary phone calls for me, gave me maps and written directions to the police station and the Australian embassy. They could not have been more efficient or kinder and i am eternally grateful to them. The hotel itself was lovely. Quite quaint and every bit as good as it looks on the website. Rooms as usual were small but very functional, good breakfast, clean and well located for restaurants, transport and to the major monuments, basilicas and the like. I will certainly go back next time I'm in Rome and I cannot speak highly enough of the little Hotel Italia. If you're going to Rome, this is the place to stay.

We traveled to Rome as part of our 'second honeymoon' and the Italia was situated very conveniently near the main Terminni station and all of ancient Rome. Everything we needed and wanted we had.

Outstanding friendliness, cheerful and competent staff. Rooms always immaculately clean. Quiet backstreet but within (just about) walking distance of everywhere.

If you are accustomed to American Hotels, Rome is quite different! The Italia is a quaint little hotel in a tight little neighborhood of shops and businesses. Very convenient to the termini, easy walking distance. However, we failed to heed warnings and were ripped off for $50 Euro by an unscrupulous cab driver. They are prevalent and will try to rip you off. Be warned. The rooms were nice and comfy, though a bit rough by American Standards, but very nice by Roman Standards. Obviously for much more money, you can do better. The staff was very friendly in all cases, very helpful, and all spoke English well. There was nothing negative about our experience! The morning cappucino and pizza was great!

March 2-4, 2007: Small rooms but very clean. Well located as the Republica metro station (and Termini train station) are only 5 minutes away by foot. The hotel staff was very helpful & nice. Tip for a good dinner at a modest price: Antica Pizzeria Fratelli RICCI. This restaurant is located at 32 Via Genova street, which is parallel to the hotel street. It is by far the best restaurant we found in Rome. Web site: www.pizzeriaricci.com

The hotel overall was ok. The room was rather old but quite clean and functional. But you could hear the other guests too good - it was often loud at the floor (not from the street). The breakfast was not as good as exspected. The location area was quite good, it takes about 10 min to walk to the Forum Romanum or to the Central station.

The hotel was in a fairly central location. Not far from the Metro at Rupubblica. Bathroom was tiny. Room was ok, but only one window around the corner opening into a dirty courtyard. The window A/C unit outside the adjoining window was too noisy to keep our window open. Needed to use artificial lights during the day. Staff was courteous and the breakfast good. I would look for another hotel next time.
United Kingdom, Feb 2007
We were somewhat surprised to find a hotel without its own frontage - i.e. the reception was on the first floor of what seemed to be an appartment block. However, when we arrived at the reception desk, all doubt was removed. It was very pleasant and bright and clean and the receptionist could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped with ensuite toilet and shower. Our room was in the block across the narrow street, but we had a pleasant breakfast in the main building alongside reception. We had a key to the outer door in case we returned late. It was within reasonable walking distance of many sites, including the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain and only 20 minutes walk from the main bus and train station.

Lovely staff - so kind and helpful Breakfast more than adequate Only fault was that the lift up to the hotel enterance was so small and taking cases up the stairs not that easy for me and my old Dad! That said we loved this hotel and the whole place and would definately go back again.

The staff was incredibly helpful. The hotel itself was a bit out of the way (difficult to find initially and far away from many attractions) but the quality of the room was great. Everyone at the desk was very nice; they offered directions, mailed postcards, and even had a laptop available to check email. Wonderful service!
