Very welcoming staff (but speaking only italian), excellent location and good breakfasts (for that price of room) but too small bedrooms especially for men! It's really difficult to take a shower even for slim ones, this is the main disadvantage of this hotel. Apart of this I recommend this hotel.

We thought the hotel was very good value and very clean . The owners were most helpful and we managed to get to understand each other! It was close to the Metro and trams so easy to get around. We did not find the area at all threatening. If you are looking for a hotel to chill out and relax it is not for you. But if you are looking for a base for bed and breakfast, and you will be away from the hotel all day then it is absolutely ideal!

Würden auf jeden Fall wieder dort Urlaub machen.

We were staying in Rome for one night prior to our departure for home. One if the problems that we had was that the map was not very clear as to the location of the hotel. We had to ask many people for directions and no one was too sure as to the actual street location. We were therefore tired and weary when we arrived around 3 at the hotel. The owner didn't speak English but we were able to communicate our need for a wake up call and taxi early in the morning. We wandered a long time before finding someplace to have a bite to eat that evening. The owner gave us some directions but found the street but not the restaurant - none there. It was a little difficult to get our luggage up the three flights of steps to the room. Not for the elderly or disabled. The room was clean and quite quiet. It served the purpose but we didn't know for sure if the taxi would be there or if we would get the wake up call. That was a little unnerving. The owner was very friendly and really tried to communicate with us.

This hotel is within walking distance of the main train terminal - The Rome Termini. It's not a great neighborhood, but I felt safe. Also close to the subway. It's very clean, but very small rooms. Very friendly family owners and a nice breakfast everyday.

My wife and I were looking for an affordable hotel. We were checking the reviews and this was the best we could found. The neighborhood is not that nice (a little scary at night), but is very well located from a metro station and like 30mins walk to the Coliseum and other main attractions. Owners are very friendly and welcoming, and eventhough they speak very basic English (almost nothing) they try to do everything so you enjoy your stay. There is a grocery store nearby and affordable restaurants (not excellent, not cheap, but good enough). It was a simple, clean room. It was just the surroundings that we didn't like (if you're from a large city, this shouldn't surprise you; Rome is not different in that way).

Traveling as a single person the hotel was excelent. The room was clean and comfortable if a bit small, and the reception was very warm and welcoming. The hotel is a short walk from the train station. The older couple who run the hotle do not speak English, but this was not a problem as they were excedingly understanding of my pour attempts to comunicate. Everything went very smoothly and I had a good nights sleep.

I would return to this hotel.
The hotel is located in walking distance (10min) of the station Termini. This is a big asset. It is also very near to the "center" - 10min to colosseum. Great.
It is right that the bathroom is quite small (1 measured meter x 1,6 estimated meters), but absolutely clean and with functioning facilities (shower head not calcified, warm water no problem, enough towels, etc.). And I am definitely not in Rome in order to enjoy the size of my bathroom.
The hotel owners are nice and forthcoming. Breakfast is included.
Only thing that I found strange is: The coffee was that dark that even if you put milk in it it didn't become brown but dark-grey. But it tasted well.

This family run hotel was very welcoming. On our day trip to Capri we left well in advance of breakfast yet the Mom woke up and insisted on sending us off with plenty of juice boxes, pastries, and bananas. She was very kind. 15 minute walk from Termini and 10-15 minute walk to Colosseo and 30 minute walk to St. Peter's square. Grocery market 1 block away. Authentic Italian experience. We would definitely stay here again.

the hotel isnt that close to the termini station as mentioned, we walked a lot! at least 20 minutes with bags. area is very ugly but the hotel staff did its best with very little spoken English. They provided breakfast on the offered rate. Too far from coliseo not to mention the Vaticano, but there is a metro station nearby.

I booked this hotel after seeing the very good ratings and reviews provided by earlier travellers on venere. Hence it was no surprise to me that my stay was really good and for the price quoted, the overall experience was great. The family who runs this property are very welcoming although there is only one person there who understands English. He gave us a useful map and told us about the sightseeing monuments to visit, the bus routes near the hotel, etc. The rooms were spic and span and almost precisely as they are shown on venere.
The location of the hotel is also convenient as its fairly close to Manzoni metro station.
I would whole-heartedly recommend this to other travellers and would stay again if I went back to Rome.

Excellent location with tram nearby, supermarket around the corner and only a 10 minutes walk away from the Colosseum. My singly room was not spacious but very clean and had a good shower. I sleep with ear plugs, so noise was not an issue. Very friendly family-linked atmosphere. I would recommend and stay there again.

The Hotel Lussemburgo is a clean, quiet family owned operation. The older couple who owns the hotel speak virtually no English but are friendly, gracious hosts. (Before we were led to our room, we were given a map with all the sights circled and the best routes to take with instruction all in Italian.) We managed to communicate through my phrasebook Italian and my partner and I were made to feel quite welcome. No fuss was made that we were two gay men traveling together and did not want our beds "separato".
The rooms are tiny and strictly no-frills, but immaculately clean and tidy. The bathrooms are a typical European affair with a tiny shower and tiling throughout. The modern air conditioning in every room is certainly refreshing after long days of sight seeing in the Roman sun. Also, the price is an excellent value.
The neighborhood (near the train station) is a bit gritty. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for women traveling alone. But just two blocks to the left out the front door the neighborhood improves greatly. If you're afraid of not being able to communicate with the owners, they have a son who speaks pretty good English who is there occasionally.

The room was small but adequately furnished.Shower was suitable for reasonably slim person, although it is very common all over europe in middle class hotels. The owners(old lady and gentleman) were extremely sweet and genuinely caring and affectionate.Mind you they cant speak a word of english, so dont expect any help in matters of city tours.Location is not so close to the Roma termini station.A taxi ride will cost you 17 euros including luggage. But it is close to Manzoni metro station.Hence it is quite convenient for sight seeing trips. The area is safe and quiet and the hotel owners ensure it is secure.Breakfast is frugal. There is a chinese restaurant very close by which is quite reasonable.cBut all said and done the place is worth returning to.

Great location to base a trip to Rome from. My wife and I stayed here and did not regret it. It is close to the train station, and only a 10 min walk to the colloseum. It is a fam run hotel, with the son speaking great English. The mother speaks little, but is very friendly and so cute! Would definitly stay again!!!

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Lussemburgo, and I would (and do!) recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Rome. The best thing about the hotel is Carlo and Lucia, the couple that run it. Between them they do everything, from cleaning the rooms to making breakfast and taking bookings. They don't speak any English, but they were always very friendly and hospitable and went far beyond the call of duty to make me feel comfortable. For example, I accidentally slept in on my first full day there, but Lucia made me breakfast even though it was nearer to lunch! As for the hotel itself, the single room that I stayed in was huge (by my student standards!) and always spotless. My room was at the back of the hotel, and was pretty quiet – although I could hear traffic from the street and some occasional noise from within the hotel, neither were ever loud enough to stop me from sleeping or wake me up. The public areas of the hotel are clean and attractive but quite cramped: the entrances to about a third of the rooms are flush against the stairwell, and one side of the breakfast room serves as the front desk.
The hotel is a pleasant five-minute walk from the 812 bus stop, which will take you as far as the city centre. The nearest metro station is also about five minutes away. The surrounding area is scruffy in places, but I never felt threatened - even walking alone at 11:30pm, with some expensive camera equipment in my backpack.

The family operating the hotel is top notch.
Once in the hotel, I felt very secure. Although I had no problems outside the hotel, even walking every night, the ambience of the neighborhood is scarry--lots of graffiti.

The overall stay was very good, however we woke up every morning to the rather unpleasant voice of the hotel's breakfast maker/cleaning lady talking 2 floors down from our room. The two men working there were helpful and service minded.

The couple who run the Lussemburgo made our stay wonderful. Yes, the bathroom was tiny and the shower was part of the toilet and bathroom - BUT - our room was always spotless, the A/C made it so easy to sightsee and still go back out at night and the smiles and conversations (english to italian - pretty funny) made my daughter and I less homesick. I would not stay anywhere else in Rome - and the gelato place around the corner was the best gelato we had the whole time we were in Rome. The breakfast was delicious and offered with such hospitality it made mornings great. The huge window with a view of the backyard and the greenery was also pretty - especially in the evenings when the temperature went back down. I urge anyone who needs to watch their money to stay here - it is like staying with relatives.

A very nice place to stay in Rome. The room we got was clean and comfortable with a private bathroom. The hotell is family run and the staff are very welcoming and nice. The couple owning it did not speek english, but their son did. However, the communication will not bee a problem and you get by using some body language.
The is close to Termini and appears a bit shabby, but charming. It is quite close to the historical centre and close (5-10 min walk) to metro and busses.
Ask the son of the family about resturants in the area and you will find some really good and affordable places to eat. This are definetly the best resturant experiences we have from Rome. He also gave us some good information on Romes tourist attractions, transport etc.

I stayed in Rome for 7 days and it was strictly for pleasure. Though the family who ran this hotel were very nice and as helpful as they could be, i would not stay here again. my single room was too small. it reminded me of a small corridor. the tv only got one channel clearly and i had trouble using the telephone. the comode literally sat partially in the shower and the towels reminded me of tablecloths rather than terrycloth. my room wasn't quiet at all. i could easily hear my neighbor and anyone else outside my room. the hallway noise was constant since the floor is not carpeted, there was a loud echo from the stairway that made the noise louder. there's no elevator so, if you pack heavy you'll have to consider that because the rooms are on the upper levels. also no internet access. i read the reviews beforehand and was prepared for the breakfast so it didn't bother me. in the future i'd just prefer something larger...at least a 3 star hotel.

Carlo and Lucia are wonderful hosts. They speak no english but somehow they communicate. They did not have my room available the first night, but made arrangements for accomodations at a hotel around the corner. They were very appologetic, but it was not really a problem. Location is excellent, but first immpressions of the neighbor can be a little uncompfortable. However this was no problem. After a few days I felt right at home.

Very clean room, quiet (we had one facing the court yard, cant comment on street facing room), small bathrooms though but it didn’t really bother us, I found that quite amusing actually, separate air conditioning (remote controlled by you) which is very much needed during summer. Place is owned by very friendly very helpful old couple. Unfortunately we had a water leak in our room but we were prepared for that as I had already read about this happening (in Rome hotels) on this site so don’t get upset, its obviously some thing that happens in these very old buildings, owners had to turn our water off and we had to use the room next door for a shower etc, we could not move rooms as the hotel was fully booked and the room we used for a shower was a single, they were very apologetic and gave us a discount on the over all price for the inconvenience, didn’t really bother us as we were only there for 2 more days and as we say in NZ shit happens. Super market just around the corner from the Hotel which is needed as breakfast was bread, cheese and meat, not enough for me but I guess that’s normal for here??. they let us store our ice cream and beer in their fridge. Hotel is within walking distance (if you like walking) to all attractions and is about a 20min walk from the main train terminal. We felt, great price, location and staff, we would definitely stay here again.

I chose this hotel as all the comments about Lussemburgo said that it was such a friendly, welcoming place, and that it was very clean. This really was true. I had a very happy stay. My room was a cool (air conditioning) haven after long hot days seeing the sights of Rome.
I certainly can recommend this hotel as offering excelent value for money.

I stayed at the Lussemburgo in June of 2006, my room was small (with private bath), but I wasn't in Rome to stay in my hoted room, but nonetheless it was a decent room.
What made my stay great was the owners; the hotel is family owner and operated. The couple who owns the place were extremely nice, just for them and their hospitality I would go back. The lady didn't speak much english but she was so sweet! There is no curfew, they will wake up in the middle of the night to open the door for you.
If you're on a budget, I definetly recommend this place. It's walking distance from the Coliseum, the Roman forum, two metro stations (although one station was closed during my visit) on the red line which take you to most of Rome's major attractions and about a 15 min walk to the Termini station. Continental breakfast included, what more can you ask for, for that price!
