Room was way too small for the money! I had to move the curtain back just to get to the other side of the bed. I did not find the floor to clean and the furniture was very old.
Loved the area though. The view was breathtaking!

We were especially pleased with the offer to provide us a small complimentary breakfast the morning we left. We had to leave very early, and the front desk offered to provide us breakfast before the normal serving time. Overall, the location and service at this hotel made our stay in Rapallo very memorable.

We loved this hotel and were in room 77 on the 3rd floor from which we could see the ocean. The two adjacent windows provided a wonderful breeze every day and night. The room was clean and spacious and had an extra room with a bed for a child or extra quest.
We got to know Claudio, his wife, and their nephew, Lorenzo very well. We really enjoyed their night manager as well, Marino. He was a joy to talk to. These hotel owners became our friends. Hotel highly recommended. Only downside is no internet access, but I used the hotel across the street when I needed it.

PROS:
- The people!!!.. What a great service! Claudio advised us of the best beaches and ports, ferrys, restaurants, activities, etc.. He even gave us an Italian class.
- The View.. Check out the photos from our room balcony!!
- Location.. Very near the ferry port and right in front of the Passeggiata. Excellent restaurants very near by the Lungomare.
- Accomodations: Very clean, confortable rooms. Easy near parking, lift, breakfast terrace, etc..
- Parking was a plus. Claudio told us to park in front of the hotel door while we unload it. Later he parked it for us a few meters away on the street free of charge.
CONS:
- A bit pricy. 165E per night could be costy to some budgets. But considering you are in one of the most expensive parts of Italy, it's not such a bad deal. Location and service are worth the price.
- Room space is a bit tight (no big problem).
- Breakfast could be better with more variety.
I don't think you can find a better place for the money. We stayed in a total of 8 hotels in our trip to Italy and the Riviera topped by far the best service. I would happily stay here again. Never the less, I would do my research first just in case I'm lucky enough to find a better rate somewhere near. Santa Margherita is also an excellent port to stay in.
Advise: Take an early ferry all the way to S. Fruttuoso, Portofino and S. Margherita. Take your time to enjoy each port. Plan your day with the help of Claudio. Stay here at least 2 days.

We absolutely loved the resort town of Rapallo with its bay and palm tree lined promonade. The hotel was in a great location right on the promonade. The Hotel Riviera is a historic hotel built in the Liberty style. Hemmingway and other writers, poets stayed at the property. We had a large room and bathroom with a bay view overlooking the promonade. The room had ac, but we chose to leave our windows open at night to take in the night sounds of people walking the promonade, live music, and sound of motor scooters driving by. The room was done in the classic Italian Riviera style with hardwood floors and shuttters. The hotel is family owned and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room included breakfast in a sunny downstairs area with a patio where they also serve dinner. It was easy to get around by walking the promonade and eating at the many outdoor cafes. We explored Cinque Terra (took the train) and Portifino while we were there, which can be reached by ferry. We would definitely go back to this hotel and Rapallo.

We had a room overlooking the mediteranean with a small private deck. Hotel is across the street from the beach as are most hotels in the area. Rooms and bathrooms were a nice blend of old world charm and modern amenities.
Parking limited but the concierge was very helpful in finding us a place to park once we unpacked the car.
Our balcony view offered not just a view of the water but a view of the evening activities - the board walk bustled with people and for two nights there was a waterfront festival and our balcony allowed us to people watch all the fun and festivities.

My husband and I had a wonderful time celebrating part of our 1st wedding anniversary in the charming little city of Rapallo at the Hotel Riviera. The people were so warm and welcoming. Both Marino and Claudio attended to our every need and were very nice. They gave us a very lovely corner room, with a beautiful sea view overlooking the bay. It was just perfect for viewing the firework displays (yes they had more than one!) that just happened to be going on the days we were staying there honoring the patron saint of the city. The location of the hotel was perfect, right in the heart of it all. Also Rapallo was a perfect city to stay in because it is easy to explore both Portofino and the Cinque Terre from here, which we did. I am quite certain we will have sweet memories of our stay in Rapallo for years to come and I look forward to our return!

We were given such a lovely welcome at this hotel; one really sensed it was a family run establishment. Most of the staff had been with them for years and nothing seemed too much trouble. Our room had a balcony and sea view and was airy and large with plenty of drawers and hanging space. The location is right in the middle of town so excellent for walking to the ferry dock and waterfront cafes. The hotel itself has a very nice restaurant. We would definitely return here if visiting Rapallo again.

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The train station is about 10 min. walk to the hotel, which is also at the seaside and 5 min walk away from the quay where you can board a ship to Portfino. The room was quiet, breakfast (buffet) ok. Unfortunately there is only one private parking lot!!! You have to park on the street, but in high season it is difficult to park the car near the hotel.

Claudio works so hard to make this an outstanding hotel. He does everything to make sure your visit to Rapallo is enjoyable. His resturant is the best in Northern Italy!
This hotel is located right next to the water and the boardwalk along the harbour. Shops of all kinds line the narrow streets. It is just a short boat ferry ride to Portofino and back.
It was a joy to spend time at the Riviera.

This was a very good hotel, full of character and situated by the sea in the centre of Rappallo. Our 2 night stay was very enjoyable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I would certainly stay there again on any future visit to this area.

The Riviera was the perfect hotel in what I believe is the best city to stay while visiting this part of Italy - Rapallo. The hotel was an easy 5 minute walk of about 3-4 blocks from the train station. The reception and all common areas were not only clean, but very well decorated. The elevator was larger than most and the stairs and hallways had beautiful marble floors. We chose a room with a view of the harbor and marina. The room was large with rich hardwood floors, and had the best bathroom of any hotel we've ever stayed in while in Europe. My wife was thrilled with the full-size bathtub! I also liked the fact that with only 20 rooms we got more attention than we would have received in a larger hotel.
There is a boat that leaves from right across from the hotel that takes you to Santa Margherita, Portofino, and other locations. Be sure to visit the Cinque Terra region - take an early train to Riomaggiore, walk the trail to Manarola and work your way up by train to Monterossa for dinner. And don't miss the market area of Rapallo - it's only a block from the hotel and has some great food and wine markets along with some good shopping.
The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant was great and our dinner there one night was excellent also. Thanks to Claudio for a wonderful stay, and thanks to Venere.com for pointing me in the right direction.

Our stay here was fantastic. The hotel and location is postcard perfect ---literally, we bought one. The hotel is steps away from the boardwalk and the beach. Our room was nice: spacious and clean, the bathroom was spotless and brand new (our room had a standing shower only, which was fine for us). Everyone who worked there was friendly and extremely helpful. My fiance and I were just engaged before we arrived and the owners went way out of their way for us. Really, I couldn't find anything bad to say about the hotel and its staff. One thought on visiting Rappalo: its a beautiful town and a great place to spend a couple of days. We were there over the week-end and there were a lot of people in town from the cities; it was fun and lively. If you can, I recommend visiting there on a week-end, although I'm sure anytime would make for a nice getaway.

Claudio the owner did all he could to make us feel welcome and to fulfill all of our requests. I would not stay any where else on future trips to Rapallo. The food was excellent and Claudio made sure that we were treated like honored guests. This is definitely a 4 star hotel in my estimation.Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so wonderful.

The concierge was incredibly helpful to us in suggesting day trips and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay at the Riviera. The location of the hotel could not have been better. Although, parking the rental car seemed to be a pernicious task. Overall, great place, and the value was great when compared to similiar properties in Rapallo. The locale is quite an expensive place to vacation (hotel-wise). The restaurant in the hotel is excellent. The property is indeed on the waterfront, so try to get a room with a view if possible.

This simply CANNOT be a three-star hotel; it far surpassed several four and even a very "well known" five star hotel located in Piazza Minerva, Roma....enough said but I hope that this statement emphasizes my point! The Riviera Hotel is a charming, fully restored family-run hotel. Hotel visitors are truly treated like guests. We were so warmly welcomed by the owner. He and the staff were extremely helpful with directions. We had only two days in Rapallo and their suggestions enabled us to get the most out of our visit. The suite had far more room than we required. The accomodation was extremely clean and comfortable. The view over Rapallo Bay was exquisite. The diningroom and garden patio were excellent. We didn't have dinner at the hotel (The menu looked great!), but enjoyed the breakfast offered. The hotel has an excellent harborside location. It's convenient to all of restaurants, shops, museums, and land & sea transportation. Rapallo is an excellent base from which to explore the Cinque Terra, Portofino, Santa Marguerita, and Camogli. I hate to let the "secret" out but please do not miss this hotel; we'll be back! MANY thanks to our gracious host, Claudio!

We travel from the USA to Italy each year for vacation. Hotel Riviera in Rapallo is the best value we have found in all of Italy. Right on the ocean with million dollar view. We had three terraces out of our room looking out to sea. This was a standard room, not an upgrade. I will return here each year. Only limitation is limited parking spaces (four).

Thanks to the manager Claudio, we had the chance to get a spacious room with three balconies on the last floor. Spacious and smart bathroom as well and of course gorgeous view on the sea.
