This hotel is just what I expected from the description and price/quaility for an Italian hotel. The views were outstanding and it was just across the street from the bus stop. We were a family of four traveling and if you have traveled through europe much you know it isn't easy to get a room for 4 without having to get two seperate rooms and pay for 2 rooms which adds up quickly. We had a double bed (two twins pushed together which is typical in europe) and two seperate twins. Just a warning which has nothing to do with the hotel. But the mosquitoes in the Amalfi area are the worst we have ever encountered. They are stealthy and you never see of feek them but the leave you with bite that look like burn blisters. So bring your insect repellant if you will be traveling the Amalfi Coast.

This property was one of the best we experienced in our 14-day stay in Italy. The owners were wonderful and the hotel and restaurant ran like a well-oiled machine. The property was spotless and had a very good restaurant; there was even had gelato on site! The views were spectacular and there was parking!! The road run betweens the property and the coast so there was some road noise that subsided after dark and nothing that ear-plugs did not care for. We would definitely return to this property if visiting the Almafi Coast again!

The hotel was very basic and the room was quite dated but the owners were very kind and helpful to us during our stay. Great view from our terrace and parking is rare in Amalfi Coast.

I believe that the best issue of this hotel is the landscape. The place is beautiful and all rooms are sea view!! It's pretty far from the closest town (Praiano) but the bus service works fine. Of course there's just a 2 star hotel, so don't expect more than this...

Great place to stay. The price was right and the location great. The best part was that every room has a balconey looking out to the sea. Food was good. Choice of eating in the restaurant or the patio across the road were both great since they both have the same excellent view

This was our first time to Praiano and we could not have asked for a better hotel for our taste. It is perfectly positioned between the village and the beach area. The hotel is charming with outstanding views. The service is warm and friendly from a well run family operation.

We had a fantastic week at the Open Gate, the family run hotel was lovely and we were all treated fantastically. This part of Praiano was beautiful a 10-15 min walk to a great quiet little beach - with sun loungers and facilities and we had a good meals both at the Open Gate and at the restaurants down by the beach. For a quite restful break, couldn't be any better!!

This is a nice hotel, and we enjoyed our stay there. I have to say that, in the same area we have been in much better hotels than this one, but here we paid much less. So, overall, we are happy with our choice.

The hotel has an amazing location on the Amalfi coast. The room had a beautiful view over the ocean, and was decorated nicely. Our meal was reasonable considering the power was out, but found better value at other hotels. Being non-smokers, we found the heavy smell of cigarette smoke in the lobby overbearing, but in the room the air quality was better. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, and the break from the very stressful drive was welcomed!

We loved the friendly, welcoming, but laid back atmosphere of this hotel. Although very little English spoken, every effort was made to put guests at ease. Food at restaurant was excellent, as was service. Spectacular balcony views uninterrupted by passing traffic. If driving, because of need to concentrate on winding narrow road, it is possible to miss hote. As soon as first sign appears regarding entry to Praiano from the south, suggest the driver travels slowly and carefully to avoid missing hotel sign.

We enjoyed our stay at Open Gate. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful, especially when our daughter needed to see a doctor and he arrived less than 10 minutes after the phone call was made. The owner drove me to the pharmacy in Praiano to get the needed medication and then waited to drive me back. We liked the small hotel experience and the feel of being well-cared for by the family who runs Open Gate. We suggest that you skip the Esmeralda Grotta experience. It wound up costing euro 20/each, instead of the euro 10/each as advertised, because of needing to pay for 2 boat rides--one TO the grotta and another INSIDE the grotta. What a shocking disappointment! With 10 people, we paid euro 200 for this 10 minute experience. And for what? They have taken a lovely natural setting and added a cheesy nativity scene in the water calling it a 'miracle.' Save your money!

A good 3 star hotel located in the beautiful town of Priano. All the hotel rooms vary in size but definitely accommodating. Priano is one of the quietest towns on the Amalfi coast so if your looking for a romantic times with an early night this is definitely a great option for you. More of a night life in Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano. Views are amazing from all the terraces at Open Gate. A little far from the beach but doable if in any shape. A+ personalities at this hotel. Their English is good and their smiles went a long way! A good stay for the money. Jeff from Jersey. Age 26.

It was an amazing experience. the location is perfect. Definitely less crowded experience than positano and equally beautiful. the only downside is getting to the location requires prior planning, for the public transportation has a weird schedule and taxis are very expensive. the staff and the restaurant below are charming and the breakfast was very good too. The peach juice was excellent. I would definitely return.

The view was astounding but the room was cramped, the bed was the best ironing board my wife has ever used, (far too hard), and the bathroom required some urgent repairs with live wires exposed from the single power point. The shower was not that good either. On the positive side, other than the view, the hospitality and manner of the staff was excellent, service at the restaurant very good (especially from the elderly gentleman-owner) and the room cleanliness could not be faulted. While the location of the hotel is a little out of town, it was walkable and very good for us with access to the beach also within walking distance.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The locations is very central, the food in the restaurant downstairs was incredible (especially the pizza's!) and the staff were very helpful. All rooms have got magnificent views. It is however slightly noisy (the road and a barking dog) but that didn't detract from our stay.

I had problems during my checkout as these people have kept our passaports and never returned them to us. We realized about this in our way back to Rome and had to return back to gather them... Old traditions are coming ruinned by young people who work in hotel bussiness with no love for what they do. A pity!!!

this is a terrific location for anyone who wants to just enjoy the sea and the view and a cliffside restaurant. Staff was very helpful, though do ask which breakfast offerings are included and whcih are separate charges. Also the room keys are hard to use and VERY noisy. But we had several rooms for a large family gathering, and all had a wonderful time and would go there again.

We had 6 wonderful days at Open Gate. The location is terrific, and the views from the balcony lovely. Stephanie and the staff are lovely and look after you well. The food in the restaurant is great and reasonably priced for the Amalfi Coast. The only drawback is being so close to the road. We would definitely stay again.

Open Gate is a good place to stay, reasonably quiet, friendly and helpful staff, an amazingly good kitchen (even though there are a lot of very good restaurants in the surrounding area, we mostly stayed at the hotel for dinner). Praiano is strategically well placed to visit the sites and places around - like Amalfi and Positano.

Being an American who has lived in Italy for roughly 2 years, there are a few things I have come to expect. First, many Italians assume that because I hold an American passport I don’t speak a word of Italian. Second, because of assumption #1, I am frequently the victim of what I like to call “Foreigner Tax.” Throughout the country, some hotels, stores, restaurants, cafes, and bars take the opportunity to add an additional few Euros or attempt to charge the same amount for a lesser quality item. To my disappointment, Hotel Open Gate was no exception. I am a very experienced traveler of Italy, and of Europe in general, and am well acquainted with quality vs. price in hotels, as well as what constitutes as a normal price at a restaurant, especially in the region of Naples. I wish I could properly review the Hotel Open Gate, because that is where I booked my room, but we were placed in another building up the street called Residenza Benvenuti. Our hosts, with the assumption that we did not speak the language, discussed openly in front of us, that they were changing the foreigners’ room (our room) for a group of Italians. As we arrived in the first room we understood why. Hidden behind curtains, the seaside windows were broken and taped together. Meanwhile, the bedside lamps lacked shades, the toilet had been used since the last cleaning, the bathroom window had no latch and would not stay shut, and the whole room was in generally shabby condition. Most importantly, there was no private terrace as advertised on the web page. After a discussion following our complaints, our hosts reluctantly changed our room to one with a terrace (but not a private one), while still at the lower end hotel. We were also grossly overcharged for a meal that we ate at the restaurant. We ended up being charged at least ten Euros more then the prices stated on the menu. We both watched as the hotel manager punched in the items we had eaten and overcharged us for each item of f

If you are looking at this hotel you have found a diamond in the rough, what I mean by that is that its decor might be a little tired and the beds might be a little hard. All that dose not matter at all as the restaurant is fantastic (I would recommend going half board), the staff are friendly and extremely helpful ( especially Stephanie), and the scenery is spectacular, however if you have vertigo close your eyes. There is no doubt in my mind that if I was to go back to Praiano I would stay at the Open Gate hotel. One last piece of advice is don't travel on Sunday as the buses are sparse and don't on any circumstances take a taxi as it will cost you an arm and a leg and probable a vital organ as well.

we were all satisfied, infact we are already planning to go back and stay at the same hotel.I will also reccomend them to our friends who plan to go Amalfi Coast. Stephania is wonderful so as the rest. Its a great help too that they speak English!!Our only complain is the neighborhood dog never stop barking specially at night when you wanted to sleep. Also on breakfast I wish they alternate cereal and rolls every other day.Aisde from that overall we still stay at Open Gate.

Open Gate is a small, family-run operation, with all the attendant benefits. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms and the building have character (tile floors, different furniture in each room, etc.), and the financial transactions are conducted honestly and professionally. The hotel's location on the main coast road means that there is some traffic noise. We found, however, that this disadvantage was offset by the the advantages of a fabulous view of the coast and sea, house-prepared meals (the cornetti in the morning and the pizza in the evening are particularly good), a comparatively reasonable price, attentive service, and a great general atmosphere. The location itself has one advantage as well: it's a bit outside the heart of Praiano and thus, for the Amalfi coast, in a pleasantly remote (though still convenient) location. Buses run between Praiano and Positano as well as up and down the entire coast, and there are stops very close to the hotel. We were with our three-year-old son, and we found that the Open Gate staff was most happy to have him. That was icing on the cake for us, a traveling family. When we return to the Amalfi coast, we will definitely stay at Open Gate again.

The beds are terrible - especially the singles. They are "roll-aways" that sag. The room was promised to have AC but we couldn't get it going nor did the proprietors help get it started when we asked. We phoned front desk 2 times. The mosquitos made it difficult to stay cool b/c we couldn't leave our windows open. (We were there in June.) The tile floors are gorgeous. ALSO, this place is NOT near the village and walking - and driving - to places is difficult. Open Gate is on the inside or mountain side of the road, not the cliff or ocean side. This makes it difficult to get to the beaches, etc. Traffic is crazy along this coast - life-risking!

This was one of 7 hotels we stayed at during our 4-week travels (as a family) in Italy. The room was fine (about average) but the balcony and the view were amazing. Breakfast was good, served on the patio with a beautiful view. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The on-site restaurant was excellent, overlooking the water with a great view, and reasonably priced. (Because of logistics in this area, we found that we had dinner at their restaurant 3 of the 4 nights we were there. One of us had a nut allergy, and they were exceptionally helpful in meeting our needs.) This was a beautiful quiet central location to explore the coast from. It is right on the main and almost only road in the area, so it was handy for catching the local bus at the doorstep. Although right on the road, traffic was not a problem and certainly at night there is very little traffic.

A pleasent family run hotel where every one was exceptionally friendly. The rooms were generaly clean, however many small items in rooms needed fixing. No plug in sink, electrics in our two rooms had sockets falling off wall and wiring to bedside lamps held together with insulation tape. Not all rooms have air conditioning so if you was expecting it you may get a surprise. Even if you room is fitted with it you will find out that they do not switch it on until you pay an extra charge which is not listed on the web site. Friendly nature of staff makes up for a lot and the restaurant offered good value for money meals which were very nice. Views from rooms and balcony were quite exceptional. If they could just fix up the few faults in the rooms (especially the electrics!) and not charge extra for the necessary air conditioning then this would be an excellent recommendation hotel. Prices for the type of hotel are high, but in this area they all seem to be.
