Conca's rooms, views, and staff were amazing. The rooms are large; I highly recommend spending the extra money for the large sea-side terrace. We spent a lot of time out there enjoying the view w/ a bottle of wine. The place was very clean, with a good breakfast. The view was as amazing as the staff, who helped us with our luggage, travel arrangements, excursions, etc. They were wonderful! I would come back time and time again.

The hotel stay about 50 feet above the street. To reach the hotel entrance we have to climb several stars (about four levels)and go across some narrow and dirty ways. It's very hard to go up there, from the street. THE ADDRESS SHOULD NOT BE LIKE A STREET ADDRESS. I was very, very disappointed when I arrived there.

Nice hotel in a great location. They tend to nickel and dime you, though, and are more than happy to just keep adding the charges on to your room bill (laundry, beach towels, restaurant, etc.). It is Positano, though, so I guess that is to be expected. It's up 100 steps to the lobby of the hotel from the road, so expect a workout. They have porters to carry your luggage up, so you just have to get yourself up. There is access to a nice small beach (you pay for chairs/umbrellas), and it's not too far from the main beach either. Our "superior" room was small, but adequate with a balcony just large enough for 2 overlooking the sea. The "jacuzzi" in the solarium is cold water not hot!

This is a great location but not for the less able. There are 105 steps from road level to hotel and then either a 20 minute walk via road or 800 plus steps down to sea level! It is worth it for the views though. We had a superior room with a great veranda equipped with sunbeds and an excellent shower with a picture window looking out to sea! Wonderful. Rooms are clean and freshly decorated but quite basic - typically mediterranean - linen etc changed daily. The forth floor is served by a very slow lift - no stairs - only to 3rd floor! I would highly recommend this hotel as it is very friendly and the views are fantastic. If you take a car - parking is between 18 and 21 Euros per day!

Stayed in Superior Suite, twice for two days at each stay; had problem with ants in the room, which was handled quickly, but they came back again; it was a bit far from the beach [601 steps vertical climb on the short-cut] and from the main part of town, which meant any dinner outside the hotel included at least a 10 minute walk downhill to go, and an uphill trudge afterward. The hotel staff do a good job of welcoming and hosting, but they cannot overcome the remoteness of the location.

I can't say enough about this hotel. The only negative thing I can say is that the stairs to the hotel are pretty tough. My husband and I are in pretty good shape, but there were days that we huffed and puffed getting to the top. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful and the views are amazing. The staff was very helpful and the breakfasts were great. Our room was very spacious, we had a double superior room which had a great balcony where we enjoyed wine in the evening. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Positano. We called down to the front desk twice for something that we needed, and they were there within 5 minutes. Great hotel and a wonderful stay.

Very nice hotel with great views from all rooms and many shared terraces. Good breakfast. About 20 minutes walk to positano main square. It is positano so expect to climb lots of stairs. Positano is beautiful and we had a great time. Hotels closer to town square are much more expensive.

Located well above sea level which is a 20-30 minute walk but well worth it for the views! There are a lot of steps(100+)but we knew this before we went so werent surprised and we got help with luggage. Hotel caters mainly for couples or those with younger children although we also saw extended families there. You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy the location fully. The hotel arranged an airport transfer which we are glad we booked.

As we arrived quite late at night and it was very difficult to find the hotel(as we rented a car and the indication to hotel on the road is not so remarkable), finally we got there. The boss was very kind to help us take the heavy luggage upstairs to the lobby that was highly appreciated.

For 200 Euros in Positano it was a great place with a spectacular view of the coast from our bedroom and from the breakfast room and sundeck. The breakfast buffet was great and staff quite friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and quiet although no luxurious. The main downside is that it is out of the way, although close to the cirulare busstop. Hard to find so need to ask locals. If not near the main square. I would not recommend this place for seniors because of the very large number of steps to get to the hotel. i am in great shape for 60, but going up these steps a few times a day is a workout. Someone will come and get your luggage, but you'd have to get there first to ask them to do it.

We were only booked into the Conca d'Oro for one night but as soon as we viewed the room and view from the balcony we asked to stay for the remainder of our holiday. We stayed in a superior double which had a large balcony which was covered in flowers with the most breathtaking view imaginable. It is a lovely walk down to town from the hotel and a small bus will drive you back up the hill if you need. Positano is fabulous and if you were to stay down at the bottom of the town you would miss so much. I have recommended this hotel to everyone I know and hope to go back again next year - wonderful!

This was a really nice hotel, located on the quiet side of Positano, away from shops and restaurants, but close enough to stroll into those areas for the evening or the day. The property is beautiful, our room was a good size, but the balcony was quite large and offered fantastic views. I followed advice of others and requested the larger balcony and upgraded room, well worth it. The hotel is run by family, and there was always one family member there to help out with whatever we needed. The only down side was that the hot tub was not hot, perhaps they only use it when the beaches are too cold, but it would have been a nice option and definately was a feature that helped us to decide to stay there. This aside, I'd still go back.

If you plan to stay in Positano, you MUST stay at Conca d'Oro (translated "Golden seashell"? maybe?). The photographs simply do not convey how beautiful it is there. The rooms were incredibly clean, beautiful, and HUGE. When my wife and I arrived, we thought we had the wrong room because it was so nice. We booked the Double Superior room- the connected terrace was almost as big as the hotel room! The restaurant was excellent, including the complimentary breakfast (which was easily worth 20 Euros each day). Conca d'Oro is at one end of town, so you will walk about a mile to the city center and the beach. But it is more peaceful away from the city center. There is a small market very close to the hotel that sells all the groceries you will need. The best part of staying there was the staff. They were remarkably accomodating, easy-going, and friendly. We had our own private wedding reception at the hotel's restaurant, and they actually had a small wedding cake prepared for us! They really make you feel welcome.

upon arriving at the port of positano I was told the hotel was only 10 minutes up the hill. 25 minutes later we arrived at the sign displaying the Hotel Conca D'oro only to be faced with a climb up 101 steps to the hotel reception. I immediately informed the staff that I would have to check out as soon as I could find alternative accomodation as I had a bad knee and could not make the climb each day. The hotel manager was VERY unsympathic to me and wanted to charge and additional night charge for altering the booking. She also told me it was up to me to seek out information about the hotel and not them. I asked that for future booking over the internet that customers should be made aware of the steps

The hotel was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only 2 things to take note of would be the number of steps to the hotel and the picture on the website that appears to be a pool is actually a spa. Great trick photography! The hotel is located near many restaurants and next to the bus stop which is very convenient. Its only 1 euro to take the bus and it stops every 15 minutes and stops everywhere in town you need to go. I would stay at the hotel again.

Hotel Conca d'Oro was brilliant. The staff were exceptional, the rooms lovely, the jacuzzi area was heavenly and the atmosphere in the hotel was buzzing. Nothing was too much trouble and the hospitality of the staff was wonderful. Set a little distance from the main throng of tourists made for a very relaxing stay. Possibly not a great location for elderly visitors as the steep steps leading to the hotel may be difficult, but great for the young and healthy.

My wife & I stayed for 13 nights at the Conca D'Oro on our honeymoon. Everything about this hotel was fantastic, position, room, location, staff & service. We couldn't fault anything. We were in a Superior Double, which had a huge private terrace and a spectacular view across the bay. On our first night we were greeted with a bottle of champagne on ice, compliments of the management. Positano is built on a cliff face and therefore you have to climb many stairs to get anywhere, but this is what makes the place so special as everywhere you go there is an incredible view. The 106 steps from the road to the hotel are difficult at first but get easier. We plan to return to Positano in the future and will definitely stay at the Conca D'oro again.

We are two Americans from Washington, DC who stayed at the Conca D'Oro in Positano for the second half of our honeymoon. Coming from Venice, we were very pleasantly surprised with the size of the room (we stayed in a Double Superior). The sleeping area was plenty big enough, and the bathroom was three times that of our Venice hotel. But the star of this hotel is the private terrace. Our terrace was probably 8 ft by 10 ft, and very private. The view, which goes without saying, was spectacular. I would also say that when compared with other hotels (incl. 4 stars) in town, we found the Conca D'Oro was in a prime location. We were high enough on the mountain to offer breathtaking views, but still close enough to town to enjoy it all. Our favorite restaurant was about fifty steps from the hotel even! We were a bit leary of the steps being too much of a climb, given other reviews we read on Venere, but quite honestly, if you're in normal health, they present no problem at all. We carried our luggage up ourselves with no problem. The irony is that without those steps, you would not be up as high, so we were actually happy about them. The Conca D'Oro offered us everything we could have hoped for on our honeymoon, including the right price, and the next time we're in Positano we will not even look anywhere else. One last added touch - the staff had a bottle of champagne with best wishes for a Happy Hoenymoon when we arrived. The staff was top notch.

We had a great time at this hotel but I am confident that there are a number of hotels that are just as good in Positano. The town of Positano is smashed into a ravine which divides the town center (and expensive hotels) from the less expensive and more local area. We were a little disappointed about this at first, but realized by the end of the trip that this was actually a blessing. This area is much quieter and has a lovely local feel (rather than the noisy and very touristy main area). To get to Positano's town center, shopping and main beach, simply follow the main road- OR for a quieter and much more peaceful walk, follow the signs to the smaller beach located on this side of town (ask the front desk) then take the seaside path directly into Positano proper. It's a few hundred steps down to the little beach, then a level walk on the quiet pedestrian trail into town. You'll definitely want to take the main road back home though, as the stairs up from the small beach will kill you if you try to climb them (we did and nearly fainted). As the other reviews state, the steps from the main road to the hotel entrance total around 100 and I would not recommend this for elderly travellers, the severly out-of-shape or people with bad knees. We didn't mind it though- You can't avoid steps in Positano. Our room was clean, spacious, nicely decorated and had a wonderful terrace with amazing views. Definitely spring for the delux room with private terrace (although the public terrace is very nice, too). The staff was fine but not the most helpful we encountered on our trip. If we go back to Positano, we will probably try another hotel for the sake of experimentation, but would definitely recommend this to friends.

While the rooms were lovely at Conca D'Oro and the views breathtaking, we would likely not stay there again. First, Conca D'Oro is quite a distance from the center of town. Taxis in Positano are insanely expensive (15 euros for a 8-minute drive down the hill to town center), and while Conca D'Oro was cheaper than other hotels in town center, once you add the additional 30 euros per day (for taxis to and from dinner, even assuming you walk everywhere during the day), they would be close. However, this would not have deterred us from staying by itself, as the hotel is beautiful and our room was great, except for being noisy. The room (429) had a terrace (shared with others, which we found awkward) and the only entrance to the room was through the terrace, so not only could we hear our neighbors whenever they were outside our door, but the doors were flimsy and actually blew open EVERY night. My boyfriend had to put furniture up agains them to keep them closed. Granted, it was pretty windy, and hopefully, not everyone had that experience. Still, this would not keep us from coming back. What would, however, is absolutely horrible service from 2 of the front desk women. I wish I had their names for this review, but 2 of them were awful. (Another was lovely, and very helpful, and I wish I had her name as well.) One booked us a taxi to the train station (for 95 euros!) that insisted on picking us up at a certain time, which resulted in us arriving 4 minutes before our train left the station. But the topper was when I lost my debit card and went to the front desk to look up my bank's emergency number online. This was at 7 pm. I asked very politely to please use their internet for 30 seconds. I was told no. I then explained that my debit card was missing and I urgently needed to look up my bank's emergency number to report it. I was again told no. I offered to pay (I literally offered her 20 euros for 1 minute of internet time) and she refused, pointing to

We were given the main suite for our first 2 x nights and it was very nice even if the layout was a bit odd. Also, it was not exactly private as it was overlooked by one balcony and 2 x terraces either side which could have been better designed. Overall though we thought the hotel was great and loved the little beach and restaurant at the bottom of the 450 steps! If you want to be in the centre of things this is not really the place as it is 20 mins walk from town but great if you want to be on the edge and good value for money too. Staff were great and I would recommend a room on the 4th floor with terrace as these looked the best (and most private!).

The room was large (for Italy) but sparely decorated. Didn't have the finer touches, (such as facial tissues, soft towels, washclothes, shampoo and conditioner) but it had all the basics, was very clean and comfortable and once you opened the terrace doors and saw the view, nothing else mattered. On your terrace, there were a table and chairs and chaise lounges. The view is spectacular. Breakfast was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. The price, when you consider what 'fine' hotels cost in the area, is a real bargain. Negatives: If you can't climb 100 steps every time you come to the hotel, you can't stay here. Once in the hotel, there was no way to get to our room except by the elevator. It was only one or two levels up, but the way was blocked by private terraces. Parking is extra.

We were very happy with all aspects of our short stay, only two small concerns:- we were given a free local road map on arrival which would have more benificial if available on line & or before arrival, finally upon settling up I had to phone my uk bank for authorisation which took over 1/2 hour when time was very short, due to the hotels insistance that this was neccessary, unlike most other transactions when a retry or a seperate call is made by the seller for authorisation.

This was our first visit to Positano. I read reviews for several 3-star hotels and chose Conca D'Oro based on its location, excellent website, and reviews from previous guests. My husband and I were not disappointed. We came by train and city bus, then walked down the hill to the hotel. As stated on the website, the attendant at Milano Parking called for a porter who came immediately and took our luggae up the 100 stairs! The stairs were steep and left us breathless, but so did the phenomenal view! True, the stairs are not for the faint of heart. But we loved the workout. Also, it would be difficult for families with small children or infants in strollers. We chose a junior room, and it was small - but the view of the sea was all we needed. Although the room was tiny, it was beautifully done - tiles and other detail work were lovely. The bathroom included an inclosed stand-up shower, and coming from France where these were few and far between, we were thrilled. All rooms at Conca D'Oro have spectacular sea views. The price did not include airconditioning or TV, but we didn't need either. A wonderful buffet breakfast was included, however, and just coming from France where breakfasts were 12 Euros/per person, this was a deal! One of the reviews warned us not to eat dinner at the hotel, but we did the first night and were pleasantly surprised. The view of course was exquisite, but the food was also very good. We dined at a trattoria in town the next night and found the prices comparable to Conca D'Oro - but the trattoria didn't compare in terms of quality of food or atmosphere. For our 3rd night, we returned to the lovely diningroom at the hotel - this time indulging in their tasty dessert menu and a delicious glass of the famous Limoncello. The staff was very friendly and helpful, arranging for us a fantastic tour of Pompei and a reasonably priced cab ride to the train station in Sorrento on the morning of our departure. If we ever return to Positan

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The stairs were initially a challenge but by the end of three days, we were used to the climbing. The hotel staff was excellent and gracious at all times. We stayed there for our 20th anniversary and the hotel correctly, at my request, placed a bottle of champagne in the room… a nice touch. I would highly recommend the hotel to others. The ONLY caution is that the driving instructions are challenging. I initially passed the parking lot and had to ask for assistance due to the one-way street.

Breath taking view. Staff was very courteous & helpful. This hotel is a bit off the main strip. No worries, a bus stop is only 25 steps away.

we absolutely loved the hotel. we originally planned on staying only 2 nites, but stayed for 5. i knew ahead of time about the 'imposing' steps that lead to the hotel - 106 to be exact. i read it on this website. i was glad they were there. after all the food and drink, it was a guaranteed sweat. the hotel staff was remarkable. we loved everyone. so nice, such hard working people. the views are unparallelled. our terrace was divine. the solarium was the best. we never dined at the hotel. too many placed to choose from. the rooms were impeccable and the beds were just fine. would go back in a heartbeat. mpls. mn

Hotel and staff are wonderful. The room was the largest we stayed in in all of Europe. Dinner in the restraunt was great. Found the best bottle of dry red wine there. Revelo something.... Be warned, the 100+ steps up the stairs is quite a walk!!!! but worth every step. Getting off the bus from Sorrento, the public bus is in front of a tobacco shop, across the street, then a short ride to the Hotel.

We stayed in Positano for three nights. Our room was spacious and clean. The view from the balcony was out of this world. Some of our favourite pictures of Positano were taken right from the room balcony and the hotel's dining terrace. The steps up to the hotel were a bit of a pain (especially in mid-July). Positano is built on a cliff so we're pretty sure that climbing steps would be a reality no matter what! Would recommend the Conca D'Oro to anyone visiting Positano. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

All was great except the following. The details for the hotel state- Air conditioning but fail to mention you have to pay and additional 10.00 Euro's per day for it. Also, the hotel charged me $1.50 Euro for a map they gave me at check-in.

Overall an excellent hotel. Two concerns that potential visitors need to know. 1) Over 100 steps up to hotel from street, no easy access for handicap or medically ill. 2) Pool is essentially a roof top hot tub, adequate for cooling down, not for swimming.

Very nice hotel, the steps are a pain though and it is a little far from the beach area but i thought the price reflected this. Staff were great. I would stay there again.

The hotel had a wonderful view of the ocean. Just fabulous! The employees were top rate in customer service and helped us with activities to explore, history of the area, etc. The restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner with a view that was just incredible! Be ready for the steps to the hotel and the beach. The hotel gives you a pass to the beach but you will still have to pay about 7,00Euro per person. The beach was not the highlight of the visit, but worth an afternoon.

Like most hotels in the area, this one is hard to find but there are signs on the road leading into town. Once you reach the grotto on the right, take the path that leads up several steps. The bus from Sorrento drops you off at the top so you need to catch a local bus into town or walk. It's about a leisurely 20 minutes stroll downhill with great photo opportunities on the way. Watch out for the traffic as the roads are incredibly narrow. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The view is quite good, but is even better from the breakfast area. Room was very clean and well fitted out. Can't comment on the service as we did not utilise it very much. Breakfast was typical European with a good selection. Coffee was just ok. For a dining experience to remember, ask the desk to book a table at La Tagliata. They are at the top of the hill and will send a vehicle to pick you up and drop you off again. Meals are very good quality and reasonably priced. Bring an appetite.

Conca D'Oro is a terrific little hotel and very deserving of all the praise it has received from others who have stayed there. It was the former customer responses on Venere that led to our choice. The owners and hotel staff make you feel welcome from the minute you walk in and throughout your stay. They are extremely friendly and accomodating to any request. My wife and I stayed six days in a suite and our two college age daughters stayed in a superior room next door. The rooms were immaculate and were maintained daily in the same condition. The rooms were fair sized for a European hotel, while the terraces were outstandingly huge for both rooms, particularly the suite that we had. The views were wonderful from both rooms and overlooked all of Positano and the sea. The location away from the only street in Positano is well worth the 106 step climb to the lobby. The hotel is totally isolated from the noise of the town, where nearly all the other hotels in central Positano are located along the street and their smallish balconies often overhang the street. We stayed six nights and came to know most of the staff on a first name basis. We would recommend this hotel to anyone of our friends. The hotel is definitely on the top end of three star properties and would have a four star rating if it had a few more facilities. The hotel restaurant is quite good as well and service is even better. We had two dinners there and a simple breakfast each day. (A little advice: The walk up 106 steps is really not very difficult, except if you try to carry up heavy luggage. However the hotel staff will do this for you, if you walk up first and let them know that you've arrived.) Dr Bruce and Patricia Barman

We loved Positano and the view from our hotel room was beautiful. In comparison to places we stayed in the rest of Italy that had larger rooms, better breakfasts, and a warmer staff we felt Conca D'Oro was overpriced. But the breathtaking view and location of the hotel is hard to beat.

Stayed here for 2 days at the end of May. We had a "junior" room where you have to pay extra for air conditioning and TV. I have no idea why they even have this price difference. We actually didn't know about the extra charge until the second day when the housekeeper left a piece of paper on our dresser indicating that air conditioning was and extra 10 Euros and TV was 5 Euros. One of the awesome things about this hotel is the view. It is amazing. They also have a terrace on the 4th floor where you can lay out on loungers or just sit around at patio tables. In terms of the room, it was a fair size and was very clean. The only problem with our room was that it was directly above the kitchen and was VERY noisy. I really liked the breakfast...cappucino and chocolate croissants (the 2 things that I LOVE!). We had dinner at the hotel but it wasn't that great. There are many other restaurants in Positano and we much rather enjoyed our dinner at one of the restaurants just down the street from our hotel (I think it was called Seracena D'oro or something like that. They have a terrace and also tables on the opposite side of the street. They don't take credit cards and the owner actually said to us that if we didn't have cash that it was no problem, that we could just pay the next day. Wow!!! Very trusting!!)
