The Horizon Beach Hotel enjoys a great location in the traditional fishing village of Plakias, in Southern Crete. Situated only a 5-minute stroll from the port and set by the sea, the property offers splendid views across the bay and easy access to a nice sand and pebbles beach.
The hotel boasts a homespun atmosphere and the owner's three children can often be found playing in the reception area or in the nice garden. Moreover, in order to ensure you a pleasant stay, the property features a lounge with TV, a bar, an Internet point, as well as a 85 sq.m. meeting room.
An array of pubs, restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance of the hotel.

I found the hotel to be good value.The room was bright and modern with a good sized balcony overlooking the bay.Shower was slightly on the small side but otherwise the bathroom facilities were good.Thought the buffet breakfast was excellent - plenty of choice eg fresh brown bread,toast,jams,cereal,cheese,ham,yoghurt, honey,fresh fruit etc.As the hotel is located just outside the village it was quiet outside at night. Had very little contact with the owner and his wife / partner was pleasant and helpful enough when I spoke to her. If I visit Plakias again I would definitely consider staying in the Horizon Beach Hotel.

we lucked out and got the best room in the house, room 111, with a beach view and two decks! overall, a great deal for the room, even though a little ways away from the main-drag, which was just fine! biggest downer was that the owner appeared to hate what he was doing. Would have appreciated a nicer welcome/goodbye...

Nice location with top view. Bad breakfast,only ham and cheese. Some jam and honey. Very unpleasant owner. Did not say many words to customers from UK and Norway. Many Germans. Even the other staffs did not say hello when meeting them during the day. Very disappointing!!
HOW TO REACH THE HOTEL
By car
From Heraklyon : take motorway 90 (Iraklio-Hania), heading towards the city of Hania. After about 70 km, exit the motorway at Rethymno. Turn left and proceed southward following the indications to Spilli. After about 30 km, approximately 10 km before the town of Spilli, turn right towards Plakias.
By airplane
Located 100 km from the hotel, Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis International airport hosts daily flights serving various locations. Taxi service is available from the airport for destinations all over the island.
By boat
There are daily ferry and high-speed ferry services connecting the Athens port of Piraeus to the harbours of Heraklion, Hania and Rethymnon. Taxis are easily found at the end of the wharf.
