Except for internet wireless availability, there is no cause of complaint. Great value !

We were very pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful historical hotel with spacious rooms. We shared a bathroom and shower. The bathroom was quite far from the room and the shower was 2 floors up the stairs! That's the only down side. The room was very plain but with high ceilings. The bed was very comfortable though and the furniture 1930s style which I found charming. Everyfloor is lovely decorated with the odd room here and there with couches and tables to play cards or pool. Would definitely return! Private parking is available for 10eur per day. Location wise it's perfect - barely 10mins walk to the leaning tower and right next to bars and restaurants that remain open till about 1am.

Hotel Royal is a very beautiful hotel with centuries of history. The artifacts and paintings within makes the hotel more like a museum.

The hotel is well located and our room was on the top floor overlooking the river. However, if was noisy in the late evening and into the early hours of the morning since it is close to a very busy bar that overlows onto the road below. Reception was not very helpful in assisting us to book a ferry trip to Elba. However they spoke good English and were friendly.

Clean and spacious rooms but very poorly soundproofed rooms.

the royal victoria is located very central and the old grandor still can ben seen. Although, I also have to call it outdated and -as we dutch call it- 'vergane glorie'. The breakfast is very nice and the buffet has many different things. Normaly you only get sweets and cake for breakfast but this had cheese and some ham al well. nice staff. small room. funy elevator: it tells you to go down using te stairs because "then you can see the rest of the hotel.."

nice hotel, very simple. If you don't have a shower in your room, there is only one, and it's on the four floor, which is kind of annoying (they don't tell you that at check-in). Breakfast was good, staff was friendly.

The hotel is a good buget choice. Great location, clean rooms and friendly service. We could hear other guests in the hall so if someone came in late we were woken but we did not hear any noise from other rooms so disruption was minimal. There's a beautiful roof terrace for use and you can order drinks to be delivered to you. All around it was a pleasant stay. Good value for money.

I chose the royal victoria because of its location, and the fact that its like really old. It is a most charming hotel, warm, clean and friendly, and just what it is advertised to be. The staff was kind and most helpful. The breakfast that came with the room was in my opinion terrific. The room was huge, clean and had its own sink, which was a nice touch. We shared a bath, and encountered no problems. The shower was on the 4th floor and our room was on the 2nd floor. It did not prove to be a problem. The hotel did have a elevator and a parking garage, it charged 10 euro to park for the night. Well worth it because as in any city the parking is a problem. The last thing you want is to be towed.

The hotel itself was lovely but the room was somewhat shabbier than I was expecting, and the air con didn't work properly. We had a room right by the outside terrace so you could hear metal chairs scraping on the tiles but fortunately it started raining in the evening so we were able to have the window open without it being too noisy. Breakfast very good, and handy for the airport bus which stopped right outside (the hotel sells tickets). Overall not bad value.

Nicely presented, authentic small room. Conveniently located for the city centre. Bit of a walk from the station with luggage, but not too bad. Only complaint was that the door and lock on the room didn't look overly secure. No problems during our stay though.

We booked the 'Best Twin Room'at a discounted price. It was a large room with a lovely view of the river. Only criticism: no minibar/fridge. However, the beds were comfortable, the room was large and spotlessly clean. Location is 10 min walk from the station, then another 10 min to the Tower. Excellent breakfast and service. The building itself is very interesting, with large halls and communal spaces everywhere, lots of old furniture and full of character. Was like being back in the 19th century. There is a lovely roof terrace-garden. There was scaffolding at the front, but being the weekend, no workmen. We found it nice and quiet, but can't say what it's like normally. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return.

Beautiful surroundings, charming public areas BUT VERY SMALL AND OLD ROOMS. The bathroom probably was renuvated 30 years ago! The interiors of the hotel are charming ancient, the rooms OLD.

I stayed only one night at this Hotel, the room was clean and spacious. The staff was competent and helpful. The included breakfast was excellent.

The entrance to the hotel was lovely and the building itself is what I expected - faded grandeur - but the room was dissapointing and not like the picture. It had a really high ceiling but the floor space was tiny and the furniture was a bit naff. OK but not worth the money.

I was travelling with my husband and stayed 1 night prior to an early flight. I liked the hotel and its lovely antiques and pictures. We had a great room at the back with two French windows which opened and were bug screened. The staff could have been more helpful especially when our room service breakfast did not turn up. We ended up grabbing a quick coffee in the breakfast room and did not have time to eat because of the early flight. The staff seemed totally unconcerned about this. Catherine

The Royal Victoria is an excellent choice for the no frills traveler. The rooms are clean, comfortable and affordable. The staff knowledgeable and polite, and the location convenient. I have used this location twice as a starting point on my travels in Italy. I would (and have) recommended it to others who will appreciate it's old-world charm and convenience.

The outside of the building is under construction so I had a bit of difficulty identifing it at first. Other than that my stay was very good. The breakfast served was very plentiful. Everyone at the desk was extremly helpful. I would stay at the Royal Victoria again but request a larger room.

A quaint, old-fashioned hotel in a historic building. So similar to many other hotels I have stayed in in Italy and in need of some serious money being spent on it. Very helpful staff without which I would not have found the car park.

The place is wonderful, although it needs a complete refurbishing. The rooms are very different, so be careful which one you are given. It may be a little noisy because of the cars and some bars nearby. The staff is alright.

The bathroom was as big as some of the standard double rooms. Room for a bath even. Huge bedroom with room for a billiard table. Was nice to sit in the sun on the communal terrace before flying out but a shame the reception staff had no change to give for a couple of glasses of wine.

Fabulous crumbling hotel, sooooo much character. Travelled as a group of work colleagues and found this hotel to be perfect for our needs as it is not always easy to get triple rooms with single beds. Great variety of rooms, some with balcony, some with paintings on the ceiling. Breakfast was full of variety, served in a high-ceilinged olde-worlde dining room. Take time to explore the hotel before you leave. Location was great as this hotel is equidistant to the Tower and the train station. All the nightlife was on the corner of the street/bridge. Only drawback - rooms at the front were noisy but the fabulous view of the river made up for this. Rooms at the back were quiet. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and spoke excellent english. One of our party had a birthday during our stay and they even gave her a birthday present. Nobody had mentioned this to them however they spotted it from the check-in slips we all signed!!

Well located, and not bad at all. However - this is NOT a luxury hotel. It was clean and pleasant however. The bathroom was two floors away though...
United Kingdom, Oct 2007
A hotel with much character and history, making it a very interesting place to stay. Sitting on the terrace was an amazing contrast to the hustle and bustle outside - a place of tranqullity and peace. Very convenient for anywhere in Pisa and the hotel staff were very helpful and efficient. This was a stopover on the way to, and the way back from, Florence. Well worth it.

We chose this Hotel purely because of the history and old world atmosphere portrayed on the net. Our room was a double ( changed rooms as the staff had put us in a twin to start with )situated at the back of the hotel. On changing rooms we lost the river view but gained a much quieter room apart from the late night opera singer in the alley below! Well it is Italy! While the public areas were lovely, beautiful painted ceilings and antique furniture - the room really did need a bit of money spent on it. Beadspreads were well worn and furniture was very basic and old.Reminded me of a monastery cell albeit larger. The bathroom was tiny but functional. The floors were marble, a delight for those of us not used to this lovely material.Breakfast was the usual fare served by cheerful staff. We would stay here again for short stays as it is very well situated and enjoyed the quirkiness of the place .If staying in Pisa for more than a night or two we would probably go for a bit more luxury.Walking distance to all the sights and 5 mins by car to the airport.Lots of restaurants to choose from. There is a garage to park your car.18 euro per day.

We enjoyed our stay. Lovely OLD hotel. On our first stay of 3 nights we had a front view over the river in a spacious room. We booked 2 further nights at the end of our holiday but were given a side room which was much smaller despite asking for a similar room and being told it would be the same. Breakfast was good and service from waitresses and reception staff was excellent. The outside of the hotel was in the middle of a facelift with the access restricted and scaffolding outside the front. There was a smell of sewage outside in the street. I think people who appreciate the history of buildings and classical italian houses and furniture would love the hotel. It is not modern. I loved it and would stay there again. Very convenient for the train station and the Field of Miracles to see the Leaning Tower. Excellent restaurants and cafes all within a short stroll. Airport bus stops outside. Taxis to/from airport cost around 12euros and trip takes 10 minutes. If travelleing by train don't forget to validate your ticket before getting on to the train. Punch it in a yellow box. If you dont you may be fined 5 euros per person.

Allthough we had booked a room without a bath, we got one with a bath ,without being further charged. The hotel is very beatyful furnished with lots of old furniture and pictures, who tell the story about the place. The staff was friendly and helpful,so we enjoyed our stay and would like to return another time.

We loved this hotel. Very authentic. Pity it was covered in scaffolding while we were there. Great location. Would recommend it to our friends. Had a few problems with garage. We were blocked in and guests hadn't left car keys at reception. Put us under a bit of stress to return our hire car and catch our plane.

Hotel is very old and quirky but wonderful location - this is our second visit to Pisa and we chose this hotel for location. Breakfast supplied was wonderful - could not fault the staff or the hotel facilities but our room (202) was noisy as it was on the second floor and the windows were not soundproof and it was to the front overlooking the river and the very busy road with constant traffic and beeping of horns etc. Yes, we would go back to stay there again.

Went past hotel twice as front is completely covered in scaffolding. We had to sign a form that we would not open our window after 8.00 am when the workmen started. Old fashioned hotel. Room with basic facilities. Shower flooded bathroom. Some public rooms richly decorated. Staff were good. Only stayed one night. Need hotel staff to show the way to garage as you could not find it otherwise. Don't take a big car!

I travelled here with my husband on our wedding anniversary and really hoped that we would be wow-ed by this hotel. It is currently undergoing renovation to the front of the hotel so it is hard to find as there is no sign on it. It also means that the rooms at the front of the hotel cannot open windows during the day and work starts at 8.30am. The hotel is very old and this was the attraction. It contains all original features (floors, furniture, lighting) and many artifacts are hung on the walls. It was clean. However, the owners have not put any love and care into the building. Other than the fittings described above, there has been no effort in the decoration. Walls are whitewashed and have chunks out of them where they have been hit by suitcases. Skirtings are painted in the horrible grey paints used in schools, as are pipes. Floors are cracked and have not been renovated or repaired. Although the rooms are big and the bathrooms massive, no care has been taken to transform the hotel. The door to our room (the second room as we had asked to move from the first - the staff didn't seem surprised!) could have easily been pushed down. The door to the bathroom was rickety and like it had been made from plaster board with a cheap handle added. The cleaner was really noisy in the mornings (probably due to the flimsy door). The bathroom itself was spacious but pipework had been added over the tiles, the shower wouldn't stay on the wall etc... Basicaly, although the hotel is lovely and old, the owners have put as little effort and money into the hotel as possible other than to keep the original features. Considering the price of 135 euros per night, I thought this was expensive for wht was provided.
