hotel front view
The hotel Royal Fromentin is located in the heart of Paris (between Montmartre and the Opera House), in one of the city's most lively districts. Just down the street is the famed Moulin Rouge where the French Cancan, portrayed by Toulouse Lautrec, has thrilled visitors to Paris since the Belle Epoque.
The lobby, once the popular cabaret Le Don Juan, preserves the charm and spirit of the 1930's with its original wood panelling and theatrical decor. The hotel has preserved its authentic character while offering every modern comfort. Warm hospitality, thoughtful service and assistance will make your stay a very pleasant one.

The room was clean but quite small -- this may be the case in all center-Paris hotels of this price or class. The hotel itself was very nice -- interesting lobby, etc. It's a only a few steps from Place Pigalle -- which I imagined might have become more "gentrified" since the last time I saw it many years ago, but hasn't. With its open offerings of "adult" entertainment, I don't think this is the place to stay with young children. Nor is the Hotel Royal Fromentin appropriate for the business traveler who needs some room to spread out. But it suited my needs, and the service was friendly and very helpful.

As you enter this hotel, you know it is going to be special. Wooden beams, painted wooden panels, art noveau influences. This was our second visit to this hotel, and we were very pleased to have the same room again. A very spacious room, one of the best in the hotel with a view to Sacre Coeur. The paintings on the wall are copies of Cezanne and Monet - not prints. We have the choice of two double beds. The bathroom has a bath and powerful shower. Breakfast was simple and included in the price. It is a must to sit in the lounge bar and soak up the atmosphere of the place. Bar charges were very reasonable. 12.50Euros for a half bottle of good wine. The hotel has an informative booklet about the area, the artists, writers and the absinthe. We did the "Stroll through time" walking tour detailed in it.Interesting and easy to follow. The staff were friendly and helpful. They looked after our bags after we checked out. The hotel is just off the very lively Boulevard de Clichy. The windows are double glazed which blocks out the noise. Could be a problem if it is very warm and you need the windows open. The hotel provides an internet terminal free of charge. The lift is really quaint and the windows in the stairwell very stylish. This hotel is strongly recommended. Right in the heart of Pigalle and Montmartre. It is one of our favourites.

Buona vacanza a tutti!!!

Our first night in France, so perceptions have faded after several other hotels. First, I was unaware how GREAT it was for the staff to provide free access to a reasonable computer with free broadband internet access 24/7 in the front room used otherwise only for luggage. Elsewhere in France, I got looks like I was from the moon, or paid high hourly rates for less comprehensive services. When we arrived at 11AM, no room was ready until 1PM, but that's a sign that they're successful, not negligent. Comments in previous reviews about the neighborhood are true, but oddly the sex-shops and sleaze are only seen to dominate the neighborhood after dark. During the daytime, it does NOT have any hint of oddity, and even at night, the sleaze is behind glass. I didn't see any solicitation by live sex-workers. Similarly, the previously posted comments about finding easy access to groceries and informal cafes (for breakfast & snacking) was true too. We were UNable to find a cab upon our departure, from the hotel entrance, the corner or then from the cab-stand in the nearby square. Since that's where the metro entrance was, we dragged bags to train station rather than risk any further delay. I would choose it again for the same reasons I did before.

Our stay was very nice, the staff is excellent, rooms are very clean, but not qiuet, we were given a small room for a price that we payed, No a/c (a comfort that we're used to here in the USA) Very close to the Moulan Rouge, Breakfast is very good. Would I stay there again, propably, but for a better price.

First time in Paris so I was not familiar with the location. The website says this hotel is in the Opera section but it is, in truth, in the Pigalle section of Montmartre. This section is filled with sex shops, peep shows, prostitutes, and very loud night clubs. The AAA guide I took with me said this area was "best avoided by night". Obviously, this was not the area I wanted to spend 5 nights in with my 9 year old daughter and 13 year old son. However, we arrived in Paris late at night so had no choice but to spend the first night at this hotel. We were on the 7th floor of the 7 story building and tucked in the roofline so the rooms were very small. An antiquated (but working) elevator was available but only large enough to take two people & luggage at a time. There was no air conditioning (my fault for not more closely examining the web site) and the windows opened wide but there was no breeze. This was in late June and Paris was very hot. The street noise (with the windows open) was so loud throughout the night that we slept with ear plugs. The bathroom was small but serviceable. The main problem was that the water varied from hot to cold to non-existant (it would drop to a trickle for 15-30 seconds every couple of minutes). The staff was understanding of our need to change hotels and gave us an office and computer to use to book another hotel. I would not recommend this hotel. We found efficiency apartments in the real Opera section with large rooms, air conditioning, and kitchenettes (with refrigerator/freezer) for 40 euros more a night so much better deals are to be had even without booking in advance.

We requested a room with a view and were given one. The problem with that is the room is on the main street, which is very noisey all day and night, but the view was very good of Sacre' Coeur. This was not the hotels fault. We were told by other guests the rooms not on the street are very quiet. This was our third visit to Paris and this was the best hotel we have stayed in, one of the others having been a Holiday Inn. The hotel staff was very good and knowledgeable. The location, although in the heart of the red light district of Paris, is very good with two Metro stations close by and easy access to the airports by public transit. The breakfast; rolls, cereal, juice, coffee and tea was adequate for us and included in the room price. I would stay at the Royal Fromentin again, although I do prefer other neighborhoods of Paris.

Finding the entire "Red Light" district literally around the corner was a shock, but had really no impact on our visit. Mattresses, carpets in rooms were run down. Public area very pleasant. Location convenient for walking around to see sights.

Our double room was extremely small and overpriced. The price/quality ratio was as poor as it gets. The pictures on the web site do not represent the typical double room in this establishment at all. We should not have been charged so much for the room we had. Despite having explicitly asked for a room with a nice view (on a Sunday and Monday in the low season) we were given a tiny room on the third floor with an uninspiring view of the neighbours. There was never service in the bar during our stay and two 0,2L glasses of wine (self served) cost €12,50. The nearest metro station Pigalle has two lines (12 & 4) which aren't very useful to tourists. Hotel Royal Fromentin will entice you with fisheye pictures of a superior suite, presumptions of top quality for the high price, and claims that their bar life rocks and that they have revived absinthe; but none of those adverts are true. We had more fun and luxury during the rest of our Montmartre visit at another Hotel for the same price. (The proper price for Royal Fromentin should be 50-60€, not 126€!)

Building work was in progress nearby - but didnt detract much from my experience here. Close to the Red Light district which isnt very appealing, but i must admit that the area felt quite safe and secure. Ideal for visiting Sacre Coeur ( a must see with the best view of Paris).

If you can forget that the major porno district lies between you and the metro station, everything else is fine. There are some real pieces of art in this hotel, like the elevator or the decorated glass windows in the stairwell. Staff were responsive to all our requests.

My intial impressions were very positive and they remained this way throughout. I found the staff pleasant and helpful. The location was ideal and we had a twin room which gave us a stunning view of the Sacre Couer. The room was comfortable and clean throughout our stay. The breakfast was plentiful and the lounge an extremely comfortable place to relax in after a hard day's sightseeing. Overall we had a marvellous stay and the hotel was integral part of our enjoyment.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were polite and friendly, the hotel itself was beautiful in a very traditional style. We were two females travvelling alone so booked a twin room which was very spacious (we had a double bed each) and has an amazing view from our balcolny of the Sacre Cour lit up at night. We did not think breakfast was included but it was and consisted of an array of cereals, croissants, pain de chocolat and bread- excellent value! The hotel was also ideally placed for sightseeing- just a short walk from the Moulin Rouge and Sacre Cour and close by to several Metro Stations. The only negative point was that it was located just off a street with numerous peep shows and sex shops- but we did not receive any hassle and t was relatively quiet! Overall we had an excellent stay and would happily book the Royal Fromentin again!

We were very happy with the room, but we would have expected to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was not much information about what was on offer in the hotel or surrounding area, just a sign in the lift about breakfast times. However in every other way, the room and service was excellent.

We really wanted to try and absorb the Paris lifestyle on our stay - unfortunately, as the hotel was situated near the sex shops - it involved public transport to do so. Will stay in a different location next time. However, was impressed with the service provided - no probs with understanding English and very helpful. Also, if wanting a 'double' room, this need to be clearly explained as we had a 'twin'.

The hotel is located in the red light district and I travelled as a single woman. On my way home from the Metro to the hotel (only 2 minutes walking distance) there were often guys who wanted to "look a movie" with me. So if you are a scary person this may not be the right choice for you. On the other hand the hotel is located in a really quiet street. It is neat an clean and quiet (very important to me!), so I would go there again.

The quadruple room (# 56) we had requested was better than expected. Service was friendly and excellent. We loved the cute ornate little elevator. The lack of Air Conditioning in rooms was of great concern. Perhaps Fans could have helped a little. We had to leave our windows open which made it very noisy due to location of hotel (near Moulin Rouge) near busy street. There are several sex shops in the area which can be a bit embarrasing if travelling with kids. Overall, location was conveniently located between the subway stations Blanche and Pigalle on Blvd Clichy.

The hotel is just of the Pigalle so we knew what the area would be like. If you do stay and I would recommend it I would ask for a room that doesnt overlook the street, purely because its noisey all through the night. Its very handy for seeing all of Paris as its two minute walk to the metro. If you keep away from the Pigalle there are some good bars and loads of places to get good inexpensive food nearby. Only thing wrong with Paris is the cost of drinks, beers to expensive no matter where you go!!!

We have enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The service was well performed and there is nothing to complain about regarding service, cleaning and the skill of the staff. The room however, was rather small and there was little possibilities to stove away the suitcases as we stayed there for 7 nights. The bathroom didn't have a curtain to separate the bathtub from the rest of the bathroom and it was only a handheld shower. Maybe we would have prefered to have a room with a showercabin. On the other hand our stay was very good and these remarks are not at all shadowing the great week we had there. My apologies for errors in the spelling as I haven't had much practise in english writing for some time.

We arrived at 11.00 p.m. due to problems with train transport from CDG. I had already informed the hotel of this but got the impression they were surprised to see us. I had booked and had confirmed a spacious double room with a view of the Sacre Couer and a bottle of champagne on arrival as it was our first wedding anniversary. I got neither and the room was cramped and rather tatty. That, together with the fact that the bedding had holes in it, led my husband and I to make the decision to leave the following day and find somewhere else to stay. We attempted to ring out the next morning on the hotel telephone but despite repeated attempts and requests to the reception by my husband eventually had to use our mobiles. I certainly would not visit this hotel ever again, when we checked out early no surprise was shown at this and, quite frankly, I did not want to demand another room as I did not want to stay in the hotel.

This is a beautiful art nouveau hotel, renovated with an eye for detail. From the windows (street side - take upper floor) you can see the Montmatre and Sacré-Coeur. The Moulin Rouge (a great spectacle!) is just down the street, but so are also a lot of sex shops and bars (it gets loud on Friday and Saturday night). It is a great place to stay though with lots of nice restaurants on Montmatre and Place Clichy (good fish there!). The metro is just down the street and Opera and Galerie Lafayette are in walking distance. We had a great time at the Hotel Royal Fromentin. (The breakfast is good as well)

I must confirm the delays on cleaning of rooms. We arrived at 15 in the afternoon and the room was not ready. Next day, at the bed was not ready too. Next day, again, at 17 o'clock the room was as we left it in the morning... We had to complain at the reception to have room cleaned at least for 13-14 hours. Besides of this problem, the hotel was quite good !

Unfortunately, it was very noisy in the corridors. Much young people screeming around midnight and slamming with the doors. There was hardly a welcome, we just got the key and that was it. Breakfast was okay and the surroundings (close to the tube and in a nice area) great. But we didn't find the hotel cosy (the pictures are much more cosy with flowers and everything). And we had to ask for the room to be cleaned on the second day (it happened at the end at 5 pm when we where back to dress up for our diner..). A little bit dissapointing after all the good reviews I had read.

Although the zone where is located (Place Pigalle, with many sex shops and other sexual "business") the Hotel is very safe and comfortable; the only problem is the elevator that is formidable under the esthetic point of view, but isn't functional and very very small. We have other little problem: in my confirmation sheet in internet said: price XXX ONLY BED, and then we assumed that we didn't have right for breakfast, and the last day we've realized that it was included, but is true that I've must to ask first at our arrival. In sinthesis is an hotel I recommend widely for a stage in Paris.
