This was a great place to stay on a budget. The room was comparable to a much more expensive one we also stayed in close to the Latin Quarter but the cost was more reasonable. Close access to the subway made it very easy to get anywhere we wanted to go quickly. The area also had restaurants and bakeries quite close.

Room and stairways were a bit shabby (handle loose on bathroom door, curtain hanging off rail, old carpets & needed a fresh coat of paint) but the room was spotless and cleaned daily.
Shower was good - hot & powerful!
There was constant traffic noise & sirens all night & we needed earplugs to sleep.
The lift really is tiny - and we are quite small ourselves!
The location is great for the metro and shops are nearby.
The staff were friendly & spoke good English (& tolerated our bad French!)
Overall, quite good value but wasn't really as good as we were expecting. Probably would stay elsewhere next time.

While some people have complained about the size of the room, elevator etc., this is more a reflection of (most likely) a North American bias towards a general standard that does not exist in Europe outside of Airport Merriot's or 300 euro a night 4 star hotels.
I travel to Paris quite a lot and was shocked at the value, location and standard of this hotel. Yes, the elevator is small, but the location (right outside the metro and 10-15 minutes to the Spanish Quarter is excellent). To add to that, Porte Orleans is an affluent area - with the beautiful old university buildings and parks surrounding it. If you are like me and are left somewhat disgusted by the so called "culture" of prostitute filled Monteparnasse, then this is the hotel for you. The rooms are larger than almost any other 2-3 star hotel in Paris and the staff are courteous and helpful. I have since been back twice to Ideal and would not hesitate to return.

Someone tried to open the lock of our bagages into the room of the hotel. The manager ignored us and accused us of inventing all in order to have some money. Moreover the reception staff was to poor and doesn´t have vocation of service.

I stayed 3 night in this hotel in february 2008, with my wife.
The hotel was pretty good. I didn't have breakfast (I bought some delicious croissants in a market near the hotel) because it was too expensive. The room was clean and not so small. There were TV with italian channel and also wi fi access for my pc (for free).
I don't speak french but it was easy to understand each other with english and some word of italian.
The metro is in front of the hotel, so it's perfect. I think it was a 2 stars (there are 2 stars on the room key) but, after some works now it is a 3 stars hotel.
I suggest you to stay in this hotel and visit the splendid Paris!

Probably, the hotel had just undergone renovation. What looked like a decent but simple and old-fashioned hotel on the pictures on Internet turned out to be a rather hip design hotel, with lounge-y furniture and big plasma screens in the lobby. Nice surprise :D

The hotel should definitly not be rated 3 stars, but 2 instead. The room was really small. Breakfast was poor, do not pay 13 € for this. Anyway the price was reasonnable for Paris, it was clean and quiet. I don't think you could find better for the price in Paris

It is OK if all what you need is a clean and reasonably comfortable room to spend the night. The lift is very small and slow, so it may be a problem if your room is not at a low floor . The subway exit is just in front of the hotel and this is great when you come back from a whole day spent sightseeing! You can eat with 20 euros at a good brasserie next door. You can have a better breakfast than that offered in the hotel for the same price at a nearby bar.

We had a 4-beth room and had a great time in Paris. The room was simple but clean. The Metro ist next to the hotel entree and everything in paris is easy to reach. We can recomment to take the breakfast for € 7,00 per Person. You have a very small buffet but it`s ok for the price.

The first impression was soured when we arrived in a room that hadn't yet been cleaned. Afterwards, everything was fine. The room was rather small, but everything was very modern and recently renovated. The hotel is at a rather busy intersection, which may be bad for a light sleeper who's not accustomed to city noise. The breakfast was very spartan.

Hotel A L'Ideal is a nice, small hotel. Although quite some distance from the center of Paris(apprx. 10 minutes via subway), the hotel is right in front of a metro station (Port Orleon), quite convenient. The room is spotless clean and the staff is ready to help and suggest to make your stay memorable. Be warned: No airconditioning. We were there during spring. I cannot imagine how hot it can be during summer..no fan even. If you read other reviews, the elevator is a problem. On our second day, they fixed it! It is small, slow and makes a funny noise when it reaches the 3rd floor but it is working.
If you stay here, bear in mind, it is far from the center. Nothing much to do around the hotel but you can find cafes, resto and a convenient store around the corner. Worked great for us!

Sweet little hotel. Absolutely nothing fancy but everything clean as a whistle and surprisingly spaciou. The room looked exactly as pictured on the website. The most outstanding aspect of the hotel was the desk staff. Joanna was remarkable and made us feel welcome. The location is a little out of the way but the Metro stop is right outside so getting to/from was a breeze. good restaurants nearby (actually right next door). Really pleasant experience.

Nice stay (3 nights). Location was at least as expected. Very high price/quality ratio. Metro station just beneath the entrance makes this hotel strategic for sightseeing.
Breakfast prices far too expensive.

2 nights in paris, L'Ideal ok if like us you or happy on the metro. If not prepare for a lot of taxi journeys.
Not much doing in Port d'orleons so you will have to travel.
Apart from location then , hotel was very economical.

I was a bit disappointed that on our first visit to this hotel we were put right next to the lift and being new years eve people arrived throughout the night and every time someone used the lift (which by the way is the smallest lift i have ever seen in my entire life) or came up the stairs we heard everything. Our bathroom was absolutley spotless, to be honest i think it was fitted before we arrived, it looked like it hadn't been used before. The room was warm, sometimes way to warm to be in and we had to have the windows wide open. I think for our first time they could have made a bit more of an effort and give us a quiter room. The access to the shops was excellent, anything you need id right outside, really really good. A taxi to the Eiffel Tower is about 9 euros (£6) so that's not too bad. In all it was ok.

Nice Location, close to Metro-Station. Easy acces to the city. Rooms are not big, but there is enough space vor a short vacation.
The Front Desk people are very friendly and helpful - thank you again!
Nearby are some shops and restaurants, but some of these restaurants are not as good as they should be - so be careful!
Summary: for visiting Paris this is a good place!

Room was clean although a little small, the location of the hotel was not too bad. However, the metro station is directly outside the front door, so this is a definite positive.
booking through venere we got a much better price than if you had walked in from the street, so that was also good. breakfast can be a bit frustrating, depending on the other guests staying at the time, as you must almost fight them for the last croissant or some milk to put in your tea.
we were on the seventh floor, so the day the elevator was not working was a bit of a pain.
the staff were friendly and helpful but i do not believe there is an internet facility offered which the website claims.
Finally, the most important point is that i do believe the hotel offers good value for money, so if you are on a fairly tight budget in paris, this could be the place for you.

Anybody there spoke spanish, so I couldn't understand what meant: "multilengual".
Otherwise, everything were quite well, according to the price.
The breakfast wasn't included in the price (7€/day) but we didn't take it there, because the breakfast room was very busy.

An excellent room for just sleeping. Airconditioning/fans not available so it got very hot.
For the price, this is a perfect spot to sleep. Although noisy outside, the rooms were very quiet. Metro is right outside the door.
if you want to hang around in the room this is not the place, but for a clean and no-frills bed, this is perfect.

you get out of the metro station and hotel entrance is 5 meters away, which was really time saving

The room for 4 people was quite small. The elevator for the hotel is exceptionally small, slow and scary. There must have been a hospital near by because the night and early morning air was pulsating with annoying loud siren screeches and very loud traffic noise. Combine that with the oven that the room became in the sun and it was very uncomfortable. The rate for the room was fairly cheap, so you get what you pay for.

I was pleasantly surprised by the kindness of the desk clerks as well as the general look and atmosphere of the main entry hall. The rooms were very clean and two of the three were quiet (we stayed in three rooms due to room availibility). The third room being near the stairs was not quiet at all and I had some trouble with the noise the first night. The price was reasonable for paris in its peak season. Highly recomended for tourists on a budget. It is far from the center of mainstreem tourist activity but there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas if you look hard enough. The perk is that prepared food and groceries are a tad cheaper because it is far from the tourist action. Great hotel.

As its name mentions it, the hotel was ideally located just in front of the metro station but a little noisy. We were woken up by the trains in the morning, and there was a lot of noise during working hours (the hotel is being renovated at the moment). The personnel was not very nice, especially the night auditor who never said hello. The lift was ridiculously tiny and very scaring. Only one person carrying two bags could take the lift, the other person had to climb up the stairs. Luckily our room was on the 1st floor. It was just perfect, very clean, completely refurbished and the bathroom had just been renovated. We didn't have breakfast there as we found it a little expensive (7 euros) but there was a boulangerie next to the hotel. All in all, we enjoyed our 2-night-stay there. It was just perfect for tourists like us who spent their time visiting Paris ans only needed a comfortable bed to sleep in and a clean bathroom to get washed. We recommand it to young couples like us who don't want to spend much on accommodation and keep their money for shopping!

This hotel was really handy (right on the Metro line) and had restaurants, supermarket, chemist etc all in walking distance. There is also public parking close by - we left our car locked up for the weekend and Metro'd everywhere. Breakfast was real basic - you get in, eat, leave - no time for chat. The rooms were clean and quiet - nice hotel.
