Great value for money. Although a little 'jaded' nice ambience and ideal situation in city centre(although our taxi driver struggled to find it!) Lack of lift means dragging luggage up (in our case)three flights of stairs so travel light if possible. Bucks Fizz for breakfast a nice touch! Staff helpful. Would definitely recommend.

I only stayed one night but the room was clean and comfortable if a little basic. Twin beds as usual which i always find are too small for me. Lovely building though in a great location in the heart of Palma a stone's throw from the Cathedral. I had a courtyard facing room and had no problem with exeternal noise (hotel is on a narrow alley just off the main street). Taxi to the airport took a while to arrive at the hotel so leave plenty of time.

Fabulous looking hotel right in the centre of Palma, gorgeous central courtyard with palm trees.Close to cathedral. Like being in a museum, everything very old. Excellent buffet breakfast enough to keep you going all day.Had a room on the front and it was very noisy so it is worth it to pay more for one at the back. Lost a watch in the hotel so be careful.

A very good introduction to my first stay in Palma. The hotel location could not be faulted. The only slight fauls were that the heating in the room and public areas was not warm enough and requests had to be made to check the heating systems which seemed a bit erractic. Secondly, the hot water in the bathroom was tepid at most times to the wash basin and erractic to the shower, sometimes the hot water supply was tepid, and occasionally very hot. Very hit and miss!!

Do not go here if you cannot carry suitcase upstairs as there is no lift. We were on the 3rd floor so it was quite a hike with the case. If you do not want to spend money on services such as gyms etc this is a good place to stay. It has no frills but we found the room with a view of the courtyard quite pleasant. If you just want a place to rest your head it is ideal. Breakfast in the Born is adequate.
Good food in
(1)Tast, just round the corner on C. Unio.
(2) El Pilon, C. Cifre, off Passeig des Born.
(3) La Boveda, Passeig Sagrera AND C. Boteria.

A good value hotel in an excellent location. We would stop here again but would demand a double bed rather than 2 singles. reakfast was included and ther ewas a reasonable selection of food. This was our 3rd trip to palma and we would use this hotel again

I booked this short break as a surprise birthday present for my husband. We had talked of staying here for some time and had looked the hotel up when we were in Majorca in the summer. We were looking forward to our stay, however we were disappointed. The room we had overlooked the street. The street reminded me of the Shambles, in York in that the buildings were very close together across the street at roof level, which meant the light was almost completely cut out. The room was very very dark. There were two lovely lounges on the first floor but there was not enough light to read a book either in the room , or the lounges , neither natural nor artificial. The room was very cold. The heating was only turned on for an hour or so each day from about 6pm to 7pm. Even then it was on so low the radiator was barely warm. The water in the shower was never quite warm enough either. Admittedly we were there during a cold spell in Novemmber but the hotel was certainly not a welcoming haven after a day out.The courtyard dining room looked lovely but was never in use while we were there as it was too cold to eat outside. Breakfast was in a small dining room. We had to queue for a table each morning and had to clear our own table before we could sit down to eat, the staff seemed run off their feet. Freshly made coffee at breakfast was a plus though. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room either so no way of warming up at all. No room service available. Marvellous location right in the middle of Palma made up for a lot of the inconvenience but the cold dark room made it a place to avoid in the future on balance.Presumably the courtyard rooms would have been lighter but still, I suspect, cold.

A very pleasant and traditional Spanish hotel with a beautiful courtyard for breakfast and tasteful decor in the public areas. Our room could best be described as 'spartan', however, and not somewhere you would choose to spend much time - no window to see out of and facing the lane to the front of the hotel where late-night revelers passed...but it was very clean and functional. The hotel staff were excellent - efficient and friendly - and the hotel is ideally placed to explore Palma. All in all we recommend it - but worth paying extra for one of the higher-graded rooms as the 'basic' ones are very basic!

A delightful and exceptional hotel! We absolutely fell in love with Hotel Born. It is in a very charming area of the city - very safe - and strategically located. The cathedral was only a 5 minute walk - a host of restaurants were as close - and our favorite evening gelato stop was also only a short stroll away. We found the room to be very captivating and the front desk personnel helpful. Breakfast was a feast with so much to choose from! The only negative whatsoever was mediocre maid service and a lack of replenished toiletries. Overall, a gem of a spot and a tremendous value as well.

I've traveled all over Spain, staying at moderate to budget priced hotels, and this is the best of all hotels I've encountered. Staff, service ,quality, breakfast are all excellent and the price is very reasonable.

excellent value for money. Good location next to old town, bus stops across road for city sightseeing tour, location relatively quiet (on passaeway), most rooms open onto central courtyard (traditional spanish style also seen in colonial houses in south & central america).
Breakfast is excellent buffet can be taken into courtyard (sun, palm trees, cacti, good food & drink mmmmmm). we asked for a typical mallorquin restaurant - Hotel recommended Sa Premsa (plaza obispo berenguer about 10 mins walk north) excellent food, few tourists, very good prices - 'starter' pa amb oli - bread, garlic, olive oil, olives, ham & cheese - was bigger than most main courses and only about 6 euro

Fantastic hotel! An old style palace, very big and clean rooms, a big internal court, near to the "Passeige Born", to the Cathedral, to the Palace, to the shopping zone. A lot of Italian bar and restaurants, everything ok! Just ask for a room looking to the internal court!

This was my second visite to Palma de Mallorca. It is a beutiful old city! Worth of visiting. Palma seemes to be a city of pensioners, most of the people there are elder so that the night life is perhaps not so inviting. Hotel Born is wonderful! If you are interested in history and old buildings you surely like this hotel. You live in a palace.
Breakfast room is the palace garden!

Norwegian couple who stayed at Born on week in the summer of 2007. We where satisfied with everything with this hotel. It will suit you perfect if you want to live one a quiet, central and cheap hotel. The breakfast was also ok – but we missed wholesome food. The hotel was located on minute from the bus stop so it was easy to go to the beach:)

Although up a side street, the hotel reception area was amazing, like stepping back in time. The inner courtyard was beautiful, a tranquil place to rest in the shade. The room was massive, and spotless, with enormous doors, and alarge lounge area immediately outside the room. The ceiling above the bed was a handpainted scene, very inspiring!!
We cannot wait to go back there again, it was worth the money. Enjoyed the breakfast too, a good buffet selection, with excellent coffee, which could be eaten and drank in the inner courtyard.

We booked a large single room which was a twin room with a courtyard view and was well worth the extra money. The double room was on the outside. The window was high and overlooked an alley which was a bit noisy. Restaurants, shops, bars and bus stop just outside. Lovely courtyard for breakfast.

I stayed in hotel Born off-season for a 3 day business trip in December. I booked 3 single rooms for myself and my colleagues and requested room upgrades in the comments box. When we arrived we were each given junior-suites for the same price as single rooms! We were delighted with our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location is truly excellent. It is in the centre of the town and many shopping and eating places are a very short walk away.
I gave less than a perfect "noise" rating because on the last morning of our stay a gardener started trimming the Palm trees in the courtyard at 7am. But I guess this operation only happens once a year, so I was just unlucky...

Born homepage does not specify between quieter inner court rooms and those towards the street. We got one of the latter, incredibly noisy at night and dark due to SMALL windows! Inner court is very nice for breakfast and relaxing after city sightseeing. We still recommend the hotel for short city trips. Ask for rooms directed to inner court!!

Stayed in an inside courtyard facing room. A lovely hotel and very quiet and peaceful given it's location. Had friends staying in a street facing room and they found it noisy at night and also their room lacked light as the window was very small and high up so you could not see out. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will hopefully be going back next year.

Couldn't ask for a better place or location. Convenient to the heart of Palma. Not far from food, shopping, drinks, sightseeing bus stop and many other attractions. The hotel itself was very nice and charming. We had a room with the patio view. The AC was a little noisy but the rest of the hotel more than made up for that. The breakfast was included and don't miss it, not bad at all. Beautiful city and a beautiful hotel.

Very nice hotel. Lovely old building sympathetically modernised in an excellent location. Only slight problem was some noise from air con, but overall very good. Tip for anyone looking for a swim: get the bus to Illetes - it stops almost right ouside the hotel and costs next to nothing - the beach is lovely and great for swimming; much better than you'd expect for this end of Mallorca.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Born Hotel. It was very central, especially for the shopping!! The staff were very helpful and courteous. One of our party had a heart problem in the middle of the night and the night porter was very concerned and helpful, it was just a shame that the ambulance took such a long time to arrive. We would certainly return to the Born next time we visit Palma.

When I made the reservation I asked for and got an upgrade to a junior suite. Which was utterly fabulous and good value for the money.
We are not talking new and modern here. I have stayed in plenty of modern hotels with little character to distinguish one from another. So Hotel Born was a breath of fresh air.
Our suite was furnished with old furniture in character with the building - including a very nice four poster bed and wooden shutters for all the windows.
Service was low key - which is the way we like it. But when we needed help (instructions and local advice) reception staff were happy to oblige.
The hotel is in a good location just tucked off Passeig Born - close to the shopping areas and close to the sea.
Breakfast is a buffet - no bacon and eggs here - get a coffee or tea from the bar then help yourself to fruit juices, various breads (which you can toast yourself), croissants, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, and a Mallorcan speciality peppers and onions on a dough base (think pizza without the cheese).
If you want a taste of old Palma (we did)- forget the 2 star rating and choose this hotel. If you want to be waited on hand and foot in another air conditioned cloned hotel go somewhere else.
For us - next time we visit Palma we will return to Hotel Born.

The hotel building was beautiful and the location was very central. We had a room overlooking the courtyard and there was little noise from outside. The only slight problem was the internal soundproofing of the room. You could hear the slightest sound from the next door rooms. The staff were efficient but not very welcoming.

It's a nice average hotel, I stayed in a room with no natural light, the windows were from the top of the ceiling down. The street behind my room was very noisy at night, all this didn't bored me too much because I just wanted a place to sleep, but I won't be staying there again. If someone does please make sure you don't stay in a room with the windows next to the ceiling and away from that noisy street.
The breakfast it's fine, no complaints here.
