We basically ended up spending most of our time in Palermo at the Jolly Hotel . We even booked back in for 2 nights on the way back from Taormina . Top class hotel - recommended , though the area its located in is a little off putting .

1.There was no directing the way to the elevator or room by the reception after arrival.
2.The pool was locked til 9.00 h!
We are used to use the pool for a swim before
breakfast, say at 7.00 or 8.00.
I think Jolly caters business people and
conferences.

Rooms were larger than expected and nice. Within walking distance of several sights, restaurants, beach, parks. Free parking in front is safe and there is lots of space (secure area available for fee also). Restaurant good and non-smoking! Good breakfast (included with room). Pool not open (it was about 75 f. and considered too cold). Small bar in lobby never seemed to have a bartender. Other than that it's great.

The room was extremely small and priced much higher than what we were able to obtain at nicer hotels in Palermo, and for very large rooms.
Common areas are pleasant though and breakfast very good.
It was disappointing that the swimming pool was already closed despite the still nice temperatures.

The room was nice and more spacious than the others on our trip. Unfortunately the exhaust for the incinerator was outside our window so we enjoyed the smell of burning paper while we slept one night. The staff are nice and most spoke English but I wouldn't go so far as to say they were friendly and eager to help. The hotel is a stop for tour groups so the restaurant was always a zoo for breakfast. While breakfast is included in the room rate, it is hardly worth the trouble. It was always difficult to find a clean table and we usual had to wait while one was bussed. We tried the resturant in the evenings and found it much quieter and the food good. Unfortunately there aren't any nice alternative restaurants near the hotel. In fact the hotel while near the water with a great view of the harbor is really in a seedy part of town. They do have a shuttle into town that worked very well. However we were cautioned to put all valuables in a safe and to not walk around with any more than spending money on us.

Our reference books said Palermo would be difficult, but worth the effort - how true.
The city contains areas where it would not be advised to go as a tourist, but the people were lovely, the welcome was great if you make the effort, the food wonderful, and don't be too worried about being off the main roads, just be sensible, the little shops in narrow streets gave us a real welcome, and the fresh bread - a delight!
Hotel good, nice pool, friendly staff, and a free bus into the centre to save the walk.
Loved the place, the people, and really worth the effort!

We were lucky to be given "business category" rooms which were of a high quality - spacious and well appointed - other rooms that we saw looked less inviting. Get in early for breakfast - it is chaos, espcially if your stay coincides with that of a big tour group. Good location near to the centre of the old part of town makes it an ideal location for a visit to Palermo.

On arrival we had been allocated a twin room having specifically requested a double although to be fair we were transferred to a double within two hours.
For a four star hotel we were a little disapointed at the quality of the room, having stayed in better furnished three star hotels in the past. We were particulalrly disappointed that the pool was closed a fact that was certainly not obvious from the information on the website.
The staff were competant and for the most part helpful although we would not go so far as to say friendly or welcoming.
The free bus to the city centre was useful.

Beautiful hotel, with beautiful rooms. We loved the swimming pool. Staff, especially the fellow that takes care of the pool we nicknamed the "Mussolini". Not the friendliest of fellows. He had a very abrupt manner--not understanding Italian we weren't aware that the pool was closing down.
We noticed that the employees in the hotels were much more friedly in northern Italy rather than southern Italy. Desk personnel were helpful/
Also, we talked with an girl from England and their family (4 people staying the room) rec'd a much lower rate than we did.

A very nice hotel, comfortable and tastefully furnished room, beautiful bathroom, professional staff, good restaurant, great breakfast, interesting location. Given the hectic nature of Palermo traffic, it would have been helpful to know that it is located right at the intersection of Via Lincoln and Foro Italico--the map is not at all clear about that. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.
