A very good deal for Oslo, which is quite expensive by North American standards. Located in a quiet residential district, about 20 minute walk from downtown.

This hotel is in a quiet neighborhood about a 15 minute walk from center city. A trolley stop is close by and so is a store where you can buy a day pass for the trolley. Try to get a room in the back off the street. The room size is typical of what you find in Europe. The one quirk of the room the is the glass, yes clear glass, bathroom door. If you want privacy in the bath room you will only get it if you are alone in the hotel room. The room was clean and comfortable. I think the location is great. I was very happy we didn't stay in the center of town. One of the big benefits of this hotel is that breakfast and light dinner are provided as part of the room rate. With the U.S. dollar being so weak and Oslo being one of, if not, the most expensive cities in the world it truely helped to have 2 meals a day provided.

If you have to go Oslo, the most boring capital town in Europe, go to this Hotel. Very well located, walkable distance to the city centre with bus-tram stops at two mins walking; ikea style rooms clean and spacious both as rooms and public areas are concerned. Breakfast is brilliant and well over the average in Norway. Don't be misleaded by the "light soup" in the evening: it's a real dinner much better of those expansive you find in city centre.

It was simply fantastic! I hardly couldn't believe that it was true, but it was indeed. To be honest, I was expecting some kind of bad surprise by the check-out time (regarding the prices). It was all so perfect that I thought that there could be some mistake in the price. However, there was no surprise and no mistake: It was all so perfect as it seemed.

The Gableshus is a recently renovated group of hotels, merged and updated in a contemporary and eclectic style. The look of the public areas as well as our room was right out of a design magazine. Our room was nicely furnished although the bath was small and the shower, typical of the area, was open and left everything in the bath wet. The staff was relatively cordial (although due to the low rate we booked, they seemed to think it was some sort of mistake and one actually let us know it). The upscale location of the hotel, although not central to downtown was easily reached and for us, preferable due to the access to good restaurants and cafes. Breakfast was very good (except for the runny eggs!) and although the included supper buffet was marginal, it was a welcome relief one night as the cost of eating out in Norway can be ridiculous. Had we been able to afford the standard rate of the hotel, I still think that we would have been equally as delighted. At the rate we paid, the Gabelshus was a real treat.
