Ideally situated right in the heart of Oslo, the City Hotel AS boasts a long tradition of hospitality and it is indeed a pleasant place to stay for those seeking a relaxing atmosphere combined with reasonable prices.
Its excellent location ensures easy access to the central railway station, bus and tram routes. The famous pedestrian street Karl Johan's Gate is just a short stroll away with its many delightful shops and restaurants to explore.
This former 17th century building, torn down in 1860 to make room for the current building, was then finished in 1898 and from its opening until 1966, the hotel functioned as a hostel for Norwegians waiting to emigrate to America with the Norske Amerika Shipping Line, whom the building belonged to in that period. In the following years, The Salvation Army managed the hotel for 25 years, until the establishment went into private hands in 1991.
Following considerable renovation, blending the old with the new, a pleasant hotel has been created to meet the needs of today's guests. The City Hotel AS features a newly decorated conference room that is well suited for seminars or conferences. This room can host up to 20 people and has a complete standard audio-visual system.

No frills, cheapish lodgings - don't expect a palace! It's secure, safe, warm and provides the basics for a few days in the city. Wonderfully central location and easy to find, Staff very helpful, breakfast is basic but does the job! Would reccommned if you're used to backpacker accommodation!

The location is superb, right in downtown, close to the train station and prett y much everything, the only complaint i would have is that there was no remote for the tv , so switching channels was a bit annoying, other than that would stay there again

The hotel is very bad. Not expensive for oslo but very expensive in general. There are no bathrooms in rooms, blah! And the rooms with bathroom are not so good! This is an hostel! Very bad and all is too expensive!

City Hotel is a great place. Simple but very honest hotel. Near from every places: Trainstation, Ferry, point of city-bikes pick-up, touristic information "i". The only problem we noticed at this hotel is that the WC and duche have both a not very good smell. They both have almost no ventilation. Anyway, we would come back to this hotel. The very best at this hotel is the kindly attention of all employees. They were very very helpful and kind with us. :-))

The information on the venere website is poor and unclear. I had booked a "standard" room and from the message that a "budget" room had no facilities, I assumed my room had a bathroom. It turned out not to be so, but because of this unclearness the hotel immediately offered me a room with bath for the same price. I assume he hotel will clarify this with Venere very soon.

the hotel is ok for young people, even if we met someone 40-50's. Rooms are bit noised, walls are not so much big!Clearness is ok, even if you don't put your sheets on the floor to change, they change the same!! what great!the only thing is only 2 toilets on all one floor and 1 shower. in general than's ok for short stays.

A comfortable, easily accessible hotel in central Oslo. Staff were friendly, welcoming with excellent knowledge of the local area. Rooms were clean, airy and well equipped. The hotel was popular with travellers and was well suited to backpackers as well as tourists on a flying visit.

Some car parks are available near the hotel: Paleét multi-storey car park is situated one block from the hotel and costs NOK 150,00 per 24 hours; EuroPark multi-storey car park, which is situated two blocks from the hotel by the central railway station, costs NOK 124,00 per 24 hours.
