We enjoyed the Caravaggio Hotel very much. It was exactly what we expected, being located in the old historic district of Naples. It was off a small piazza and the rooms were very quiet, the only noise being boys playing soccer in the piazza. That's what you want to hear in Naples! The staff was pleasant and helpful. The public area of the hotel was very comfortable for sitting and reading. My only complaint is the bathroom in our room. The tile walls should have been cleaner and the tiled shower stall was moldy. The sink and toilet were very clean.
We were easily able to walk the city from this hotel. And it is close to Piazza Garabaldi (but fortunately not too close!) for transportation out of the city, as we took a day trip to Pompeii.
We would stay at the Caravaggio again.

The hotel cannot be faulted. It provides an excellent, warm and inviting experience. The breakfast buffet was generous an varied, and included a good selection of items. That said, the location might appear a it rough (and it is), but then ALL of Naples is rough and dowdy. This is a poor, run down city, and with few exceptions, most hotels are going to be found in areas that look poor. However, I did not feel threatened at any time, but it is wise to be careful all over Naples. - I would happily stay at Hotel Caravaggio again.

The neighborhood was rather threatening and very dirty. This apparently was something we should have known about Naples but even with some negative expectations we were disappointed with the city. The three days in Napes were very hot and the air conditioner was not very effective. When we complained we were given fan. We wanted a different room but were told there was nothing more that could be done.

Because we usually book our accommodations in the center of town or near it, we thought for this reason, Caravaggio met our needs. We were able to walk to many of the restaurants and other places of interest - also interestin g shops.

The Caravaggio is in a marvellous position on Via dei Tribunali right in the middle of the Centro Storico. It is wonderfully quiet unlike one on the outskirts of the city. The area is what you imagine of Naples but as a woman alone I felt perfectly safe. Hotel reception staff were charming and helpful and spoke at least three languages fluently. There was a wide choice at breakfast.

Nettes Hotel mitten in der historischen Altstadt.
Super Lage. Wenige Meter zum Eingang in die Unterwelt Neapels. Ca. 10 Min. zu der Einkaufspassage Via Toledo. Nicht weit weg vom Bahnhof, von dem man direkt nach Pompeji oder Herkulaneum kommt.

We were given supposedly the last available room upon our arrival (which was around 22.30 in the evening). It was in an "annex", the entrance was through a small inner courtyard, so we had to go outside in order to reach the room. The room was very small and felt a bit humid. We asked for another room, but since it was late, it was the only room they had left. It was ok for the one night that we stayed, but had we booked a longer stay, I would have absolutely insisted on a better room. It was very clean though, but due to the location and size of the room I would not give it more than three stars maximum. The public areas on the other hand were very nice and the staff very helpful, especially the girl who was on duty in the morning when we left.

Nice hotel in middle of historical center of Naples. Very comfortable and reasonably priced. Good breakfasts. Reception very helpful with directions, restaurants, safety measures etc. Naples is a wonderful city with superior shopping, great site seeing and good restaurants. All at a reasonabe price. Despite warnings in guide books we felt safe there. Police keep a visible presence in the historical center day and night.

For those desiring to stay in the historic center of Naples, the Caravaggio is an outstanding choice, just a short block from the Duomo in the middle of Spaccanapoli. From there you can easily walk to the train station - to get to Pompeii or Herculaneum - churches, or the Archaeological Museum. Facilities are spacious, clean and modern, rooms - on the interior - are quiet - and the staff is extremely helpful. There's also a good breakfast. The historic center, however, is quite exhausting. Walking the narrow streets is fun at first, but does wear one down. Not that it's particularly dangerous, though one cab driver did warn us about the area, rather, with the constant whizzing of motorcycles and press of cars, we were always releived to arrive at the sanctum of the hotel. We had previously stayed at the calmer and more distant sea front and wanted a different experience. We certainly got it. For those who wish to be in the center of it all, the Caravaggio certainly is a great choice.

The Caravaggio is in a very convenient location in central “old town” Naples within walking distance to many attractions. Naples is not for the faint-of-heart—dirty and dangerous, but for the motivated traveler there are many jewels to be seen and experienced. Upon arrival we were greeted by a cheerful multilingual bellman that eagerly assisted with luggage. Rooms were clean and spacious, however no showers, only bathtubs with detachable shower wands. Beds were comfortable, great modern remote control AC, towels and toiletries were (uncharacteristic of Italy) well supplied. Pleasant and helpful desk clerks. I would recommend this hotel.

The staff at the Caravaggio were wonderful to us. They were helpful in every way. The hotel is very difficult to find, if you are in your own car. Drivers beware! Take a taxi. The hotel is in the old city, so the sites around it are beautiful. The area is a bit dangerous, so don't wear expensive jewelry or carry much money. The hotel does provide a safe. The breakfast was generous and delicious. Naples is not for the faint-hearted, but it's worth the trip if you like a big city.

hotel agradable, bastante tranquilo (enero es, definitivamente, la temporada baja en napoles)
contrasta mucho con el exterior de callejuelas caoticas napolitanas
no perderse el cuadro de caravaggio en la iglesia justo enfrente del hotel

I enjoyed my stay at the Caravaggio and wish it had been longer. The location was central for my purpose. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was large, with 2 balconies opening out onto the square. Breakfast choices were good. I will definitely stay at the Caravaggio again on my next trip to Naples.

Hotel recently renovated, right in the center of the old town ; very spacious rooms ; mine was a bit on the dark side, but then the old part of Naples does not get sun very often! Rare thing in Italy : very good breakfast.

The staff were friendly, spoke good English and were helpful (e.g. recommending good restaurants nearby). The room was spacious, clean and, although it looked out onto the square, was reasonably quiet. However the hotel's location is not for the faint hearted - Via dei Tribunali, which the hotel is just off, is right at the heart of the old quarter of Napoli and is therefore narrow, noisy, full of life as well as speeding mopeds and cars, poorly lit at night and generally a little unsettling... you'll either love it or hate it.

We love this hotel. This was our second stay here and we very much look forward to our next visit. All the staff are so VERY friendly and helpful and the location is both convenient and full of character. It is very clean and I like the minimalistic decor with some interesting artistic touches. In summary - for us it is PERFECT!!

The room quality was fine, however the hotel is located in the heart of the adventurous old town that is notoriously crazy on traffic and not quite safe - your car may be stolen any moment. Outside parking (abt 10 min walk) that we had to cover separately - was not advertised in advance.

The hotel was a good location right by the cathedral and in the heart of the old town - in walking distance of the port, train stations and sights - and felt totally safe, despite what guide books suggest. Our room was on small side - I think it was probably a single - we overlooked a courtyard where the locals were occasionally loud - but it's all part of the Neapolitan atmosphere. My one real gripe was that the price in the room was less than the price we were asked to pay - we were told it was because it was an old price, but I think it was the price for the room as a single which they were using as a double - but the one glass in the fridge was a giveaway! Other than that no real problems - other than restocking at breakfast was a bit slow.

The actual hotel itself was very new, nice, and modern. The room was equipped with a nice TV, air conditioning, and some other amenities. The only negative was its location. It was located right next to the Duomo, which is not the safest part of Naples. If I were to visit again, I would spend more money on a hotel by the water further away from the station,(nearby the castle). Overall the hotel was very nice, although a bit over priced, but just not in a very good location.

The Caravaggio was very nicely situated next to the Duomo. The staff were very pleasant, though learn some basic Italian to get by. The manager was very attentive and welcoming. The room was clean and spacious, but very noisy (next to a tenement block..lots of shouting every night into the small hours). The room had no air conditioning, which at 120 Euros per night, was not good. Even in late Sept, when we went, the room was stuffy.....only one window high up in the corner, gave any ventilation, so in high summer it would be near unbearable. Shower room very nice, but standard. Breakfast OK but unvarying, though woman serving us was very nice. Small fridge for drinks very useful to keep things fresh, but the bottle of mineral water promised daily only materialised on our first day. The hotel is off the Via Tribunali, which is very, very busy, so watch your butts!! I think the hotel was pricey for what it was really...certainly no better than a good b and b in the UK, and should really be priced in 80-100 Euro per night range, and thats being generous. However its location and friendly staff made me feel I hadn't thrown money down the drain.

We thought this hotel was great. The room was very nice and the decor was great. The people, including the woman who worked the front desk in the mornings were most helpful with information about Naples and in helping us make calls to other cities. Our stay was very pleasant in Naples.
