We were quite happy with the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful. The
closeness to Vieux Port was a bonus. We did use cabs because of once again over packing, but understand
the hotel is easily reached by public transport. Every e-mail I sent re: directions etc.
was answered promptly and politely. If I return to Marseille I will stay there.

In the pedestrian area a very short walk from the old port and all the restuarants in the area. Very quiet at night, even though we had a room that faced the street. Room was on the small side (which is normal for France) but nicely and tastefully decorated. All very clean and in good condition. Very nice people at reception (it's clearly a happy family-run hotel) and Marseille is great for a short break.

This hotel far exceeded expectations. The room was very comfortable with an excellent mattress, and very well appointed, decorated in colors and prints of the region. The bathroom was positively spacious and deluxe.
The location is away from the sounds of the city, yet right in the heart of it. Best of all was the superior staff, all of whom were exceedingly warm, friendly and helpful. I heartily recommend the Saint Ferreol.

We asked for a quiet room and were given one on the top floor, which was perfect. It was terribly hot outside, and the air conditioning worked fairly well so that we were able to keep windows shut. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Excellent value.

The stay would have been perfect if it were not for the hotel manager who was very confrontational regarding a toilet seat which had broken when used by myself. Although I offered my apology for this, he began shouting and that it was not acceptable and the toilet seats have never been broken before.Even with people as large as myself using them he pointed out.
I did try to reason with him but he was far too verbally aggressive for this, then he accused us of slamming doors constantly and left our room.
His behaviour put me in mind of Basil Faulty from the television series Faulty Towers.
To be honest, there was absolutely no need in my view for his inexcusable behaviour. In the end to calm him down I offered a second apology to his wife (as he became unavaible) and explained there was no need for him to have approached us so aggressively and pointed out the fact that the toilet seat may have even been at fault before our arrival and this could have actually caused harm to myself.
His wife was a lot more understanding and said we should not worry about anything and made an apology on behalf of her husband.
I have never been treated so badly at any hotel I have stayed in. As a regular traveller to Europe and in particular Marseille I will have to admit I would not consider staying at this establishment again.
The managers' abusive tone was a humilitation for me, something I have never experianced whenever a guest at any hotel before.
Many thanks

Our overall impression of this hotel was very positive, particularly our interaction with the owners. We just had one night in Marseille, and the owners of St. Ferreol's made our stay memorable! When we arrived late at night, the desk clerk was a pleasant, older man who did not seem to speak much English at all, which made the check in a little difficult. He also did not show us the features of our room. As a result, we forgot to look for AC controls and therefore had a window open during the night. Even though the street is basically a pedestrian street, there were many garbage trucks that came by while we were sleeping. Our experiences the next day with the owners was very positive, however! They served a very satisfactory breakfast in pleasant surroundings and chatted with us. In the afternoon prior to check-out, we enjoyed visiting with them again--even helping their young daughter complete a puzzle! We would recommend the Saint Ferreol to anyone staying in Marseille and wish the owners much success!

The patrons were superb, both speaking excellent English and could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The only slight surprise and disappointment was the lack of a bar serving alchohol, as the web site and hotel promotional information advertised a bar and showed photographs of one. There was a "bar" but it did not serve alchohol. In England, a "bar" always serves alchohol. This was only a minor problem though as the owners were quite happy to provide glasses and ice for our own drinks which we had brought with us and this in no way detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. Future guests should be made aware of this though. I would definately recommend St Fereol's and would certainly stay there again if visiting Marseille in the future.
