A basic hotel, clean and excellent for seeing Madrid. Can be noisy as people walk along the corridors due to the lack of carpet.

We stayed in Madrid twice during our one week trip to Spain in May 2008, both times at Hostal Martin. We booked 2 rooms: a single and a double. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the whole establishment, having in view some comments we have found on the Internet on this subject. We were lucky to find a very helpful receptionist who was speaking good English (and that’s not too easy to find in Spain)!:) The first time we got rooms facing the interior courtyard, therefore the noise was at an acceptable level. The second time though, we got the only available rooms and they were facing the front of the building. Thanks God it was for one night only! The noise was unbelievable. My wife couldn’t sleep at all because of the traffic and the noise made by "happy" people enjoying the night-life in Madrid. The location is exceptional though. The Hostal is situated in a walking distance to all major attractions. We were extremely happy & pleasantly surprised with the fact that the Hostal offered free Internet access in the main Reception Hall. I would definitely recommend it to my friends looking for decent and inexpensive accommodation for a short stay in Madrid.

Esta muy bien situado en el centro de ciudad. Las habitaciones estan reformadas y limpias. Lo unico es el ruido porque se oye todo al ser un edificio antiguo.

A great spot for checking out Madrd. Close to the Plaza and lots of other little bars and places to eat. Very simple accomidations though, similar to a Hostel. Very friendly english speaking staff are there 24 hours. Beds were very very clean. Spaces were very small, electrical was a little wonky. A very good deal for the $$ though.

Martin is an excellent budget option; clean, friendly and well-located for covering most of the city centre on foot. The staff were very helpful and most were very comfortable with English.

We did not stay in the hotel Martin itself but in the annexe a block or so further up the road. The room we tayed in was recently renovated and was very fresh with a balcony overlooking the street so that we could view the passing parade. The staff in the annexe were fabtastic.

Fine hotel for a few days in a big city. Great location, but not much charm. Thin walls and lots of noise from inside the hotel. We couldn't pay with our credit card because they said their machine wasn't working.

This is the worst HOSTEL we have stayed till now. After this unpleasant accomodation, I will never put up in HOSTEL any more, especially in Madrid. This city seems not welcome foreigners around the world. As follows I will tell you how awful service they gave us: 1.We booked this "Martin" hostel from the net. Ater we arrived in Madrid in the morning, we hurried to the hostel by the map. However, when we got to the apartment they rent, there are 4 hostels from floor 1 to 4. We went to the 3rd floor "Martin" hostel, but nobody answers. After 20 minutes, we finally found the hostel reception. In fact ,these 4 hostels belong to one entity. At last, they gave us a room not belongs to the MARTIN.Of course, the rooms are different from web pages quoted. 2.The room we stayed was very small, and a bad smell.Except a small table and a chair, there is nothing else to put things. 3.That night was very cold, we could not find any blanket to cover. We have not choice, only covered the thin coverlet. The second day I asked the stuff of the hostel why there is nothing to cover, but they questioned us inverse, why don't we asked them about the blanket! 3.The second day, after the waitress changed the article for use, I found only one bath towel but still damp, even more, there is a black long hair sticked to the towel, which makes me even throw up. 4.4.We stayed only two days, everying in the room is lacked, I have to ask anything. However, the service they supported to us was very bad. It seems that they need not service to the guests, they were leaderships. They thought this is the real "HOSTEL" but not hotel, there is large difference between them. As for me ,that is only a big ridiculous excese At last, we suggest the travellers will not book this hostel. Do not be caught with chaff like us!

This is a great bargain in a very central location. Hotel Martin was easy to get to and from everywhere in the city. It also felt very safe. For those new to Madrid - if you want to get sleep or sleep in get an interior room. Madrilenos eat dinner at 10pm and party till 5am. Sleep only happens from 5:30-10:30am! The room was clean. The shower was good - the toilet was a little tight. But you really can not beat the price for the location. Besides when in Madrid - I hope you are not there to SLEEP! Very clean. Don't be misguided by the appearance outside.

The Hotel is situated in building which has on every floor another Hostal. There is one front desk for all of them at the first floor. The room was extremely small. We had one big bed (as the guy of the hotel called it) however the bed was very small. I would recommend to ask for a room with two beds. The rooms are very noisy, which can be a problem if you are next to a room for 4 people. The surroundigs are fine. Very close to the metro and at walking distance of main big tourist sites.

Great position! Very close to downtown. Very very very noisy rooms, the walls seem made of thick paper. The rooms are quite clean but very small, and the bed are limp and short, if you are tall about 180 cm or more. Anyway, we had fun the same.

Non carpeted room. Large room. Incredibly small double bed. Smell from shower and basin after 8pm till morning required leaving bathroom door permanently closed. Free internet access in foyer excellent. Staff completely disinterested in service. Cleaners failed to replace toilet paper and soaps and left room unlocked.

It seemed as though we stayed in a hotel under a different name. Moreover, it said Hotel Martin was on the 3rd floor, yet our room was on the 1st floor. Everything worked out okay, but it was a little shady.

Location is perfect for touring historic Madrid. From airport to Metrostation Anton Martin, Line 1, and 2 minutes walk. Around the corner is st.Anna place for the evening. Next door a breakfast shop PANE. But on the noisy side.
Denmark, May 2007
The Hotel Martin and the nearby anneks in the side street to the Calle Atocha is suitable for tourists who only want to sleep for the night and take a small rest during the siesta. You can come and go around the clock. The room was nicely made with clean towels every day for the 4 nigths we were visting Madrid. Best regards 2 friends - ladies in the fifties from Denmark 2

Hotel is well located for the major tourist spots. Car park a short walk away but quite challenging. Don't be put off by the entry to the hotel - the rooms are small but this is Europe! Airconditioning turned on by reception on request - so must have that setting all night! Good value for inner city Madrid.

If your strategy is to find the best value in a nice neighbourhood Hotel Golden is perfect. Easy access to Spanish Steps and Via Veneto made for safe walking. The whole family is involved and offer great service. Our room was small and a bit noisy but clean and updated. It gave us a great base from which to see the sites.

i was really surprised in very positive way. Martin is a lovely place for a short stay in Madrid. The rooms are perfect, the service welcoming, cleanless. For the money i paid i could expect much less. The main building may not be very nice but the rooms, location (5 min walk to Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, 10 min to Prado, 15 min to Chueca) are not to be beaten! Thank you very much!

The staff was very helpful to us. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk was nice enough to let us know that there was a procession that was going to come down the street right in front of the hotel (this was Good Friday). She also gave some other information about finding bull fight tickets when we asked about it. The room was very clean and quiet for the most part, except that we were right next to the community bathroom, so each morning people would come in and take a shower and we could hear them slam the door shut. The room was very small, but this was not unexpected. If we had both our pieces of luggage out on the floor, it was difficult to get past one another without crossing over the bed. We were the one of the last rooms at the end of a long hallway. This is not a major complaint at all. I expected a small room for the price that we were paying. I would recommend this hotel. It was very close to Puerta del Sol, and of course from there, you can choose to go in any direction. The Sol metro stop is very close by as well.

Location was v central, rooms were clean and for a two star were great. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Walls were thin so room was a bit noisy but having read reviews I had packed a pair or earplugs and requested a room on the courtyard side. For the price, especially in comparison to Madrid prices in general, this is a great value place

Over all we were pleased with Hostal Martin, paricularly the location which was so close to the museums that we wanted to see. Our only complaint was that I had made reservations a long time in advance & requested a quiet interior room & we were right on the street where it was extremely noisy.

Because it was so cheap we really didn't mind the drawbacks so we are staying there again in September! The main problem was that on arrival we were redirected to another Hostal and were then accommodated in a different building which was student accommodation. You say the Hostal is two star but I think it is only one star.
