If you want to visit the Prado Museum, this hotel is very close. There are also a few Indian restaurants nearby and a coffee shop for breakfast (if you don't want to pay the hotel's high price for breakfast). I did not see many other restaurants close to the hotel, but I only stayed two nights so I did not have much chance to explore. If you are interested in shopping, stay closer to Puerta del Sol.

We have stayed at this hotel four times in the past year. It has an excellent location, in one of the most interesting areas of Madrid, with plenty of restaurants and bars. A street nearby (Calle La Huerta) is adorned with quotations from classic spanish authors engraved on the pavement.

If you can get the same good price, as we did: 82,33 EUR per double room per night plus breakfast per person - 6 (Spanish) or 8 (continental) or 14 EUR (high quality & super fresh breakfast buffet)+ 7 % taxes, don't search for a better situated quality hotel in Madrid. A step away from the Prado museum, in a quiet side street of the (hectic) Paseo del Prado. Attocha main railway station and metro station with the same name are within walking distance (+/- 10 minutes); also 10 minutes to the city center (Plaza Mayor etc). All you need is available in the room : soap, foam, comb, sponge, hairdryer, sewing kit, shoe horn. So : 1) for business travellers: book there, "eyes wide shut". 2) for leisure travellers: I remarked that prices jump up and down - from 82 to 150 or even more. Weekend rates are low and high season rates are high, indeed. So be informed.
Staff is very friendly and do understand English, in contrast to most Spanish public officers - either police or railway or box office Prado servants - we had the experience: Manuel from Fawlty Towers better understands ands speaks English than they generally do. But he was from Barcelona, and not from Madrid!)

Overall the hotel was great. The only problem I had was the bill. Venere quoted me 85 Euros for two nights on their web site. When I paid the bill was 175 Euros, the Hotel said it was Veneras fault not theirs so I paid but was very annoyed.

We were in a tour group for 16 days in Europe. Then we extended our stay and go to Madrid. We found Hotel Lope de Vega in a very strategic place in the heart of Madrid. We like the hotel and its surroundings.Next time we go there, we'll stay in this hotel.

The hotel was generally nice, but employees should be able to speak english. It was very hard to communicate with them.
Venere should warn people that the breakfast is not included- it was not pleasant suprise at the hotel.
Thank you.

I did not use room service so cannot comment on that. The pictures were accurate as was everything else in the description. This hotel is very well located and quiet. I would stay there again. There are some great inexpensive and traditional tapas bars nearby too.
