| "Residenza dell'Alba" stands where once was the medieval church
and the Old Annunziata Oratory. A pleasant small square and a XVth century porch are a fascinating welcome on the way to approach this home, equipped of wide bedrooms finely furnished and of suggestive suites built on two levels. |

We arrived after about 24 hours of plane & train travel and found the Hotel Ilaria to be an oasis to recover from our weariness. It had the best breakfast of any hotel we stayed at. The location within the walled city was charming. It was an easy walk from the train station. It was a great beginning to our 17 day trip in multiple cities.

The hotel is a little hard to drive to and you will struggle to park a large car but once parked up, Lucca is a beautiful city to walk around. You will need to find a restaurant for your evening meal but there are plenty nearby.

Absolutely wonderful hotel! We would stay here again and again. Excellent location, friendly and attentive multi-lingual staff, coffee bar with drinks and snacks available all day at no charge, bicycles, public areas that were welcoming and private enough to actually sit and relax in. Lucca was charming, and Ilaria was the icing on the cake.
My husband and I fall somewhere between "young couple" and "mature couple," but I promise you either would be very happy here!
As to noise, our first room faced the road and was just a bit loud during morning rush hour. Housekeeping was cleaning the room across from ours and my husband checked it out; its view was of trees and a lovely courtyard, so we asked to switch. Very quiet the second morning!

We were surprised by the quality of the hotel. The review I had read lead me to believe that Ilaria was a small family owned and run hotel but it was more than this. In addition, we were upgraded to a suite which was quite "grand" compared to what we were expecting and away from the main hotel complex.
The only negatives from our point of view were that it was a little noisy first thing in the morning as the local area came to life and breakfast was down the road in the main hotel building.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that, unfortunately, we'd been upgraded to a suite in the new accomodation block across the road from the hotel. I'm not sure why they thought this was such bad news, as the suite was absolutely brilliant. I therefore can't comment on the normal rooms, but judging by everything else we saw during our stay, I'm sure they were fine. The hotel is in a nice part of town, not too far from the sights. The staff were excellent. It's possible that the hotel is a little on the pricey side, but having been upgraded, I can hardly complain about what we got for our money! Would definitely stay here again.

Both of us felt extremely welcome at this family owned boutique hotel in Lucca. The owner personally greeted us and was there every day to oversee his hotel and staff. It was particularly nice to have a spread of cookies, coffee, soft drinks and fresh fruit available gratis every day in the lobby. An excellent breakfast in a beautiful hotel and city. This was our second visit to Lucca and when we return it will be to the Hotel Ilaria. We strongly recommend this excellent hotel.

If there were any flaw at all with Ilaria in Lucca, it was the initial failure to describe to the incoming guest all of the services (such as free bicycles and free audio guide to the city) the hotel provides. Nor did I see that info published in the hotel guide in our room. Still, a very fine hotel by my standard.

If you are looking to stay inside the walls of Lucca, Ilaria is a very good choice. The hotel is convenient to many good restaurants and most historical/artistic features of Lucca. The whole staff was wonderful, helpful in everyway. Fabrizio and Latizia were very sweet and caring. Paolo was also eager to be helpful. Tell them we said "Hello." Don't miss sitting outside on the porch for a drink before dinner, after walking around town all day. It's not a cheap hotel, but we got a decent rate (200 euros) on venere. They try to push restaurants owned by the same people. Those are not bad, but seek out Barala, D'Olivo, Da Francesco, all in town, and Al Porto, which is a short walk outside the walls. You'll find only Italians at the last two restaurants, so bring your dictionary. In our desire not to have to pack our bags every 2 or 3 days, we chose Lucca as our base to explore the area. Our one regret is that we probably spent too many nights there relative to what there is to do. If you are staying for a while in Tuscany and don't want to change hotels a lot, better to be based in Siena.

A very good, modern and efficient hotel with a central location inside the walled city. But it lacks characters. Good place to stay for those with money to burn or on business ( company pays ). Abit on the expensive side for an establishment of this kind

I booked a single room and asked for a single room upon arrival and instead was given a far more expensive room that I did not need. The room at Ilaria was more expensive than any other I stayed in while in Europe. I would rate it only slightly better than the cheapest and significantly worse than the rest.

Exellently located, nice rooms, and good quality of treatment in hotel, as always in italy the quality of hotels is not like the high level as in us or rest of europe
but overall the best place to stay in lucca for a reasoable price

A lovely small hotel. I particularly liked the daytime free buffet in the breakfast area - do not make the mistake of using the Mini Bar when the same cold beer is available free downstairs ! It is quite difficult to drive into and although the hotel's own literature makes it quite clear how to do it, none of their literature was sent to us and the web information does not carry this.
