There is no common area except for a bar open for a few hours. I thought there might at least be a lounge area with a cafe.
The noise from the street is a problem, but it's probably insoluble. The streets outside are narrow, and in the street beneath my window groups of noisy (but good-natured) youths sang, yelled and laughed till after 2am each morning.
I found the staff very cooperative. They let me use their computer to check my email. (There is, I believe, internet access from the rooms if you have brought you own computer. I hadn't.)
The location of the hotel, just opposite the Sanctuary, is a big plus.

The HOtel was nice and close to the Santuary and the grotto, but we could clearly hear the people in the next room witch was a little disconcerting and woke us up several times during the night.
The hotel is raed as a 4 star and has a sign outside indicationg the same but I would rate it lower.

This hotel was labeled as four stars but the decor and furniture in the rooms and halls was seemed more like a one star hotel to me. They definately need to upgrade and remodel all sleeping rooms and bathroom even to be considered for a four star quality hotel.

This was my first time in Lourdes, and I selected a 4-star hotel beacuse I thought that I would be certain of what I am getting. Boy, am I wrong! The hotel was filthy. The hallways stank and the carpets look like they had never been changed. The room itseld was a bit cleaner but the carpet was dirty and the room somwhat smelly. We got Rm 480, which was situated in one of the corners of the building. It was large, based on European standards, but small based on American standards. The furnishings were dirty, and the curtains, etc were filthy and torn. I would never go back to this hotel, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I inquired at the Front desk about the 4-star rating and told them how disappointed I was with the hotel. The front desk personnel told me that the rating had nothing to do with the condition, but had to do with the size of the rooms. The 1st room I was assigned was not large, so I wonder about this as well.
During my stay in Lourdes, I went around and found numerous hotels with cleaner, more spacious lobbies. I would recommend that potential tourist do their work and find other hotels. Most hotels are walking distance to the grotto, and so this was not an issue. We found out that another hotel, closeby, with very impressive lobby, was offering the same rate but with breakfast included.

A wonderful experience for the whole family. My mom can't walk far, and the proximity of the hotel to the sanctuary is perfect, just as indicated in the webpage. A little inconvenience would be the language barrier, since most of the staff speak little English (French is mostly spoken). But overall, it is one of the best place to stay.

The Moderne is a beautiful hotel and very well located close to the Sanctuary area in Lourdes. The rooms are very comfortable and exceptionally clean and maintained. I just love that staircase too! This is my second time to stay there and book the accommodation through Venere and my compliments to both the hotel and Venere staff for their excellent service. I will definitely use both again. Thank you.

The Moderne Hotel at Lourdes provided excellent accomodation and we highly recommend it. The close proximity to the Domaine was a key feature in our choice. The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant, good food is served with a choice of menue and value for money.

The write up of the hotel and what we viewed were not the same. We expected much more from a 4-star hotel. The desk manager did not take any extra effort to obtain an iron to iron my clothes before going to the Lourdes cathedral for communion. He told me the staff was off and I would have to wait until the morning. On a second occasion just one hour later, we walked into the main dining area for dinner and were immediately escorted out by the maitre'd who informed us the restaurant was closed, despite the fact there was 15 minutes left. In both cases, the hotel staff made us feel more like an inconvenience than the reason for their jobs....service to the guests should be paramount. I was very disappointed. The hotel is beautiful. That is the only good comment I have.

The welcome from the lady at the reception wasn't warm, although it was efficient. The room was wonderful for the price and the bathroom was spacious and clean except that there was no shower curtain so its an effort not to splash water all around. Lastly, the noise from the street was loud making sleep at night very unpleasant.

In an excellent location, the Moderne is exactly as stated, 1 minute's walk from the Sanctuaries.
As one of our party requires a wheelchair (but not specifically a disabled room) I requested a room with easy access on the booking form. Room 480 couldn't have been better, much larger than the other 2 rooms we booked - although they were fine. However, the best feature was that 480 is on the corner apex of the hotel and had triple aspect french windows which meant the less able of our party could watch the torchlight procession in comfort from the balcony.
We only ate once in the restaurant, the food was good, but the price is for the full 3 course meal which you get served regardless of whether your appetite can cope - but this is pretty typical of Lourdes, so we ate out at cafes most of the time.
The only problem we had is that the lift is very small and the wheelchair we brought with us would not fit. However, there are wheelchairs available at the hotel and I noticed other guests with their own wheelchairs were able to use the lift, so maybe it was just our model.
P.S. If you need transport getting to, or while in Lourdes, I booked a taxi firm over the internet - Francis Parras, francis.parras@waika9.com - who were very helpful with the wheelchair, courteous and professional
