Nice clean room on 5th floor. We really got value for the money. The surrounding may look a bit shabby but there were lots of nice Indian restaurants just round the corner. We have only got one negative thing to say.The breakfast is too expensive - on the other hand you may eat elsewhere.

We stayed in London for five days. Our general opinion about the City hotel was very good, especially if you consider value for money and also the position of the hotel, which is very close to the city centre and very-very close to the tube-station (Aldgate east). The room we had was in the second floor and so despite the noisy first impresion we had during our check-in process, due to the bar that is in the ground floor, the room was very quite, with view in the front road. Additionally the room could be considered to be 'huge' if it is compared to other rooms I stayed in 'Bed and Breafast hotels' in London in the past.

Over all the hotel was very nice, BUT: I stayed in a newly refurbished room in the 6th floor. The room was rather nice. But it had one big drawback that spoiled the whole stay: Every time somebody on the floor turned the faucet on, this made a LOUD noice - which woke me up every morning at about 5 a.m.! Therefore: As long as they did not fix this problem - don't stay there, if you want to get some sleep!
Sweden, Aug 2008
Coming to Liverpool Street Station late at night, this was a perfect location. 15 minutes to walk and there was this nice hotel. Couldn't be much better.

we had only a problem. the room of the first night at the first floor was over a pub. We didn't sleep!!! All the rooms at the first floor during the weekend are not quite for the pub, the music and the drunk people around.... the others nights we changed the room and stayed very well. We suggest this hotel, but remember, if you want to sleep, don't reserve rooms at the first floor!! However The hotel is central, wonderful, clean, kindly.

COnsigliato!

The hotel was nice with nice staff. We stayed in Triplle rooms and had to ask for extra towels each day, because the rooms were equiped with 2 towels only. The breakfast restaurant was located in a bar room, which did not offer comfortable table and chairs for breakfast - and with long delivery time for the pretty expensive breakfast. But except for this the stay was ok - and pleasant.

Really a great place! We stayed there for five nights and we had really a good time! Clean and new rooms! Price ok...Yoy should have money on your credit card when you book the room, and you have to pay when you arrive in the hotel...Rooms are free not before 14 pm, so try not to arrive too early!

It looked as though they were in renovation, but it appeared as if they had been renovating it for quite some time. If you're looking for a place to sleep thats close to the metro, its good, but the room itself was a bit dirty, the toilet only flushed when it wanted to, and the employees didn't speak clear english, for a english speaking country. For the price we paid, we expected a bit cleaner place, but we only paid 50 pounds, which is the cheapest we found on venere.com

In East London, very close to Aldsgate tube. WE never had an issue going anywhere. TV was broken for 2 days but was looked at until it was fixed! Room was a 2 bedroom suite with fridge. Yes, the hotel is located on and next to BrickLane which is a 'partying street' at night but that just added to the fun! I will be staying there again.

The hotel was being refurbished, so the public areas were a bit below standards. It is still very close to the business center. Quality/price is OK, but do not expect too much.

even at secon floor hotel rooms are located just above the hotel disco bar that is by the lobby, couldn't sleep till late in the night also because of people shoutting outside the bar, none by the hotel went outside to ask those people to stop. Very incompetent staff and please note it's a four star hotel !!! ask to change me 20 euros in pound because I had an emergency and without debit/credit card... the man at the reception could not!!...like a crime !!!!!! do not go there.. the worst place in London !!!!

Hotel situated 5 min from metro station Algate west, 10-15 min from Tower bridge and Tower of London or Elisabeth's docks. Price does not include breakfast (+£6.50/person). Quadruple room booked ($115 ) but we got a spacious room for 5 with bathroom, fridge and tea/coffee facilities. Very hot in August 2007 and surroundings very noisy with window opened

Comppared to the last hotel we had stayed in in London, I was very pleased with the City Hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. the rate at the weekend was actually lower than I had expected to pay!The area is currently undergoing some re-development, particularly around the Aldgate East tube station but the hotel is very convenient for the tube and for getting around. We only stayed one night as we were attending a concert but I would be happy to book into the hotel again if visiting London for longer.

No mention that the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Wasn't notified that the windows would be surrounded by scaffolding. Room was quite spacious but very dim. Area was very unpleasant.

The room was very nice and a good size. We were very impressed. Only problem was that it lacked air conditioning and the room was quite stuffy. It was close to the metro, but needed to catch 2 different lines to get to centre of london. Ideal for business.

I have stayed in this hotel for about three weeks and suggest it to any one who wants to get a totally acceptable service for a good price. Room service is available every day and is really good. Underground and bus station are very near and there are many restaurants, bars and internet cafe near by. Personnel are very respinsible and helpful and the rooms and hotel is just like you see in pictures.

A disco/bar was playing very loud music after midnight. I believe it was indeed the hotels own bar.

Nice and clean rooms. Breakfast was fine. The hotel surroundings might not be totally safe. One BIG problem: Fridays and Saturdays the bar underneath, which is part of the hotel, is so LOUD you can't sleep!Very very NOISY!

In english: Our room was a little suite: little entrance, bedroom, bath and a big living room with kitchen. Very delightful! The Hotel surroundings was no very good, especially in the evening... ugly faces... but english ladies seems don't care about it and walking round the neighbourhood. Anyway I'd return to this hotel. ******************************************** In Italiano: La nostra stanza era enorme, una mini suite! Ampio soggiorno e cucina incluse! Il quartiere dove si trova l'hotel non è molto entusiasmante, soprattutto la sera. Brutte facce... ma le ragazze inglesi sembrano non curarsene e girano tranquille anche da sole.

I had a very good stay. I certainly recommend this hotel for a short stay in London since it offers a very good service for a low rate (London standards! :-) ). The fact that it's located so near Aldgate East tube station is a plus because you can get anywhere without walking a great deal. Tower Bridge, Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, British Museum are quite near. If i go back, i will stay here again for sure... if i can get the same rates! :-D

When you arrive at this hotel, you have to pay for the days you are staying in, but anyway, it was a very great deal! the price was good for London and the bedroom was very cleaned and spacious. the only not so good thing in all that was the neighborhood that it seemed a little bit dangerous, but, as we arrived early in the night at the hotel, that was not a problem. and also there was an underground station very very close, about 2 min walking. Very, very good!!!

Good value for money. LOUD Rock club downstairs until 04:30 Saturday / Sunday. Good business overnight. Better internet options should be available e.g. buy 1 hour a day for £2 with facility to log and off until used.

For a 3-star hotel, and for the price paid (£85/night for 2), this is a very good choice. For London standards, you can do much worse, and much more expensive. The room was actually surprisingly large and clean. The hotel is very well-kept, even though it is a very old building. It is situated right at the end of Brick Lane, with a great choice of restaurants and lively bars and clubs nearby. And it is next to the City, and relatively well-connected to anywhere in London. Only complaint: the extremely thin walls, and the noisy neigbours who did not let us sleep until 2:30. Overall, recommended for a (relatively) cheap visit to London.

Clean rooms, very close to tube stations and other facilities, but very very loud at night: besides street sirens and alarms, the pub/bar downstairs (which belongs to the Hotel) would play loud music till the early morning.

The location is not correctly shown on your website and needs to be corrected. There is a great bar attached to the hotel and if you love curries you have a huge choice available to you as the hotel is near the famous brick lane. However, I have scored the services very low purely because the quality of the buffet breakfast is very disappointing for a hotel of this type and this price. The actual breakfast food itself is of inferior quality, clearly very cheap and there never seems to be any variation to what is on offer, though the staff are polite and friendly. If they could do something about the feedbackl the overall stay would be much better value for money and the scores closer to excellent. To my knowledge there are no separate public area offering the usual services e.g. with tv screens would be good for anyone wishing to watch live football without going to a pub), somewhere to work outside of room etc. Also, the number of satelite channels available in the room tv was very restricted. A bit of a disappointment for a room at this price. Finally, venere.com are excellent in that they are quick and efficient and respond back if tehre is a complication with a hotel or on any feedback...unlike many other web based businesses!
