HOTEL REVIEWS
Family with older children
USA, May 2008
This hotel is in a nice location and exactly as described on the web. We had a quad room which was adequate in size. We were expecting much smaller based on the previous reviews. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. The staff was accommodating and courteous. I think the staff does very well given the limitations of the facilities. We were on the top floor and the stairs are very steep going up the last flight. Anyone that has physical limitations or too much luggage might have a difficult time. We had our own bathroom, but there was another bathroom outside of our room to be used by other guests. Some guests showered at 3am, and the water running was quite loud. This bothered me, but the rest of my family slept through it. We really did not hear any other noise from other guests or street noise. We recognize that there is not really anything that the hotel can do to about either of these, given the constrains of an older building. We did have to wait a short time for breakfast as the breakfast room is small, but the breakfast was good. We had heard that Kings Cross was a seedy area of town but we did not find that to be the case. The hotel really is ideally located, close to lots of restaurants, bus and tube, post office and grocery stores. We stayed out late every evening and never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. This was our one and only trip to London, so it is difficult for us to evaluate this hotel with regards to value since we have no basis for comparison. I did a lot of research online before we left and this was the best deal that I found for our family of 4 in a central London location. It is pricey by US standards, but not by London's. I would stay here again. My best advice to other travellers would be the same for any European hotel: pack light to easily maneuver the stairs, bring Tylenol PM if you are sensitive to faucet noises and get to breakfast early!

The Jesmond Dene was in a great location, really close to the Kings Cross station....also the english breakfast was great. The room was terribly small and the bathroom we shared was hard to move around in because of its size.

chambres vraiment très petites, juste de quoi circuler autour du lit.

Nice and clean, comfortable beds, very quiet. Fantastic location, great restaurants (got recommendations at the desk). Very narrow stairs to toilets (one floor away), no problem if you don't have problems walking but would be bad if you do). Great breakfast, eggs/sausage/bacon/oj/tea/toast, very tasty -- excellent cook, very fast service. May be a short wait if you wait til the middle of the breakfast time. Good value given the exchange rate -- I'd definitely go back.

Very disappointing. Room was minuscule and very noisy late into night on account of occupants next door and above. Bathroom was micro-minuscule (could hardly move). No hot water pressure in shower. Had to wait in line for breakfast as breakfast room so small, with result that only had breakfast in hotel first morning (out of three) despite fact that was included in price. Wi-fi out of order. Will not be back and will get friends to avoid.

The best relationship between place and price in London: perfect position (near the underground, but very quiet), very helpfull staff, rich Enghish breakfast. I've been very well with my girlfriend in a not ensuit room: it's small, but there's a sink and a tv. The shared bathroom was always clean like every public areas. I recommend to everyone!

Excellent location. Price was very reasonable for the location. Good breakfast. Very clean room. We had a basic double (not en suite). The room was quite small but manageable and we liked that it had a sink in it. We were on a middle floor, so the shower was two flights upstairs, and very tight quarters, but good water pressure and only had to wait for the shower once. Our only significant complaint was that the people in the next room kept letting the outer door for our floor slam, including late at night and early in the morning, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. It might be nice to put a sign on those doors reminding people to close them quietly from 11 pm to 7 am. Overall, we were quite happy with the place, and are likely to stay there again next time we're in London. The location is great for getting to either of the main airports.

Nice hotel overall but suffers from a lack of space in the bedrooms and particulary the shared bathroom and dining area. Great location for kings cross, st pancres and the the tube.

I wanted a clean and nice B&B hotel while in London for a few days business, and what can I say, really nice. Everything was spot on, service, breakfast and quality. After reading reviews and looking at the photos I was not let down...Thanks Venere!

Very friendly & welcoming staff. Our double room was typically tiny but that's normal for London. Very clean, modern bathroom, lcd tv with many channels, comfortable bed, good cooked breakfast. The perfect launch pad for a great London experience.

I have been there for three days. Perfect location (two minutes by walk from King's Cross train station/tube), quite a good service, but little spaces in the whole building and quite expensive for my standards (honestly it was the first time for me in London!). Please replace the shower curtain with a hard plastic one or the bathroom floor will always be wet. I would return in this B&B in future, anyway.

l'hotel est très bien situé (à 2 stations de Covent Garden) la chambre triple donnait sur une rue silencieuse MAIS les photos des autres chambres n'ont rien à voir avec la nôtre. Le prix paraît donc éxagéré.

Very impressed with this small family run hotel, in an excellent location of London. I have been visiting London for over 5 years and can’t believe I’ve been missing the Jesmond Dene. They have free WIFI internet access in all rooms, superb English breakfast, and most importantly staff that care about your needs. I suppose that is the difference from a family run hotel, and a large chain! Thanks again to all staff at the Jesmond Dene, and for sure I will be returning.

Just 2 min away from King's Cross Underground Station. Excellent breakfast, good service, very helpful staff. Clean restrooms and showers. The only downside: Our room was just 5 m2 (1 Night= 50 Pounds!!!), so that you had to leave the room or lie down on the bed when the other person wants to get dressed. Yet,I still recommend this B&B for a low budget stay in London!!
