Elevators did not seem 100%. Other than that the hotel was very well situated (within walking distance from Paddington and Queensway) with Kensington Gardens close by. Good service and reasonable standard at that price.

Location is excellent! Right opposite Kennsington gardens. Nearest Tube Station, Lancaster Gate, is only 5 mins walk.
The Swann Pub on the front street, 2-3 mins from hotel, serves lovely food.
The bar in the hotel is tiny!
We stayed in a 5 person room for two nights - all girls so you can imagine the mess! but there was plenty of room - was very impressed with the size!
The bathroom was a little bit on the small size compared with the room, but we werent in there long enuf to have any serious complaints!
All in all - a brilliant hotel, would definatly stay there again.

The location of the hotel is very close to the underground "Lancaster Gate", directly in front of the Hyde Park. The room was very small, but clean and the room keeping was very good (every day). The breakfast was just toast, croissants, jam, cheese and muesli. Not typical continental breakfast. We just take it one day. The price of the hotel was o.k for that location, but our price was 79 GBP. The standard price for our room in the hotel was 130 GBP. That is too expensive for the small room, but you are in the central of London. On the way to the hotel is a very nice pub " The Swan", the meal is very good. In generall we would stay here again next time in London.

The hotel was well located a short walk from the underground, staff was friendly and very helpful. I've stayed in London before, and this hotel was the best value for the money. There were excellent pubs and restaurants nearby namely the Taormina Italian restaurant.

No surprises after reading reviews. Great location, close to transport and easy walking distance of many interesting areas.
Rooms and price adequate, as long as one is comparing price and conditions with London hotels. Would not compare well with North- amerinan standards. Rooms vary widely. We rented two , one was fine, the other not so much. They were dated but clean, however,I did bring a London bug back in my luggage! It must be the dampness. Breakfast very basic but ok so one does not have to rush out when hungry. Odd coffee!
Staff was generally helpfull and polite. Take your hotel reservation printout to make sure there are no surprises at check in/out.
The area has a variety of budget and standard food options (towards Paddington and Queensway.

The single room I had was a pleasant surprise: unusually spacious for London with a full sized bathroom. This is an attractive, well-kept hotel in a good location. Breakfast is nothing to write home about, but is adequate.

A pleasant hotel, well located, close to Hyde Park and bus stops. A spacious room, well furnished even if some pieces are worn, well heated.
However breakfast was a disaster : I even will not insist on the bad quality of food but imagine a ten tabled dinning room with only one toaster, a domestic model, very slow and just able to cook two slices of bread at a time. You have to queue a long time to get your two slices and join your table to have your tea or coffee, cold because the waitress served it as you entered the dinning room. On the first day we wondered if that was a hoax, with a hidden camera.....

I travelled with my 7 yr. old daughter and a friend. We were in london for a concert at the O2 Arena. The hotel is difficult to find if you walk from Paddington station, but a helpful postman showed us the way.Its about a 7 minute walk. The decor is bright but oldfashioned, but you expect that in London as the buildings are all quite old.The reception staff all appear to be asian, they have good english but the accent might be a problem for some people. The location of this hotel is excellent.A 3 minute walk to Lancaster gate tube station and then just 2 stops to Bond street station which is on Oxford Street.Hyde Park is literally on your doorstep. The underground system is excellent and easy to follow.Buy a one day pass for £5 and hop on and off as much as you like. All the sights are close to the hotel or else just a few stops away on the tube.I would definitely recommend this hotel to those on a budget and would stay there again if in London.

We did book, a few months ago, two rooms. With the specific request for two adjacent rooms, as one room was for our son. When we checked-in, we discovered we had a room at the top floor and a ‘room’ in the basement!
When asking the reception for a modification, we heard it was not possible, and even that we never asked for it.
The so called room in the basement had following negative points, next to the distance with us: the room was stinking to moisture and it was located between the restaurant and the toilets! The animation in the restaurant was playing very loud music until past midnight which did not allow us to sleep until then. Furthermore we asked several time the reception to have the music stopped, which was each time promised to us but never was done.
The room at the fourth floor had following negative points: no heating in the room nor in the bathroom (which nobody could fix), nearly no light in the bathroom and no warm water in the morning!

We spent 4 nights here.
The price for the quality of the hotel was outstanding. The location was quiet yet convenient to Paddington Station (4 blocks) and bus connections around London. The Underground was close by also. It's only 1 1/2 blocks from Kensington Gardens.
The personnel were all very accommodating and friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of this hotel for the price. It is in a quiet location in a good area located close to transport links to all the major attractions of the city. We had a quite a big room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet, the only criticism I have is that the room was very cold. The heating was only on for a very short time in the morning and evening, not so good for cold November days!! Overall our stay was very pleasant except for the cold room.

For the price - this is an excellent Hotel- Our room (106) was nice, clean and had a good view. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Location is excellent- 5 minute walk from the Lancaster gate station and Hyde park and in a very nice neighborhood. Breakfast is very simple- but enough to get you started. All in all we were very please and will return.

The hotel was dated and dingy. Our room was very large, but the furnishings and carpet were old and worn. The TV only got 3 channels. There was construction noise from a building behind the hotel. It was a nice neighborhood and only about 5 blocks to the Underground station. The continental breakfast was cereal, toast, juice, and coffee....nothing noteworthy. It was too far to travel by tube from the train station with luggage, but it was only 9 pounds by taxi from Victoria Station. The front desk staff were not particularly helpful. They offered to "hold" our luggage for our later flight, but that meant leaving it in the lobby, and the desk was frequently unattended. They gave us wrong information about taxi fares. All-in-all, the place was kind of a dump, but it was much cheaper than most of the hotels we looked at, so I guess we got what we paid for.

This is a superb hotel, especially for the price. Our room was huge, the windows overlooking the square and Hyde Park were 4 metres high. The room on the first floor was spacious and well equiped with tea/coffee and a fridge, the bathroom similar and kept to a high standard.
The staff were well spoken, polite, extremely smart and the management even sent a follow up letter.
The self service breakfast was of a good standard and the staff were smiling and helpful. It doubles as an Armenian restaurant in the evening which i must try on my next visit.
The hotel is so convenient and quiet.I have found no where better to stay in London and will certainly revisit it.

WE GOT THE ROOM OVER THE BAR, AND ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. THEY PARTIED TILL 3 AM. BUT THE BAR WAS CLOSED ON SUNDAY AND QUIET THE OTHER TWO NIGHTS. LOVED THE LOCATION, A MINUTE FROM THE SWAN, THE TUBE, QUEENSWAY AREA AND THE PARK, THE MAGNIFICENT HYDE PARK. A TWO STORY HOTEL ROOM WAS A KICK.

We requested a twin room and got a double bed and a metal cot that was marginally comfortable. The breakfast was adequate but basic. The location was great, right across the street from Hyde Park and close to two underground stations. The rooms were clean and everything worked fine.
For the money and location it was a good value. We will consider staying here again.

This is a very good hotel. The location was excellent, the room spacious and clean, the breakfast good, refrigerator in the room saved us a lot of money, and the value for London was just brilliant. I dont think there is better value in Europe when compared to some of the places we stayed that were booked by our travel agent at double the price. Every booking we made with Venere represented very good value for money. All of our Venere bookings were absolutely seamless, no hitches at all. I will stay at the London Guards any time I visit London in the future.

We stayed here for 5 nights on reviews from this site. We had absolutely no problems with this hotel at all. It is a little tired but being so close to everything made up for it. Our rooms were serviced everyday. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children but were lucky to get a room which had two separate bedrooms with a fridge and tea/ coffee making facilites. Perfect for storing snacks and drinks for the kids. The reception staff were hard to understand but very accommodating and certainly not rude and went out of their way to help us in anyway with our kids. The breakfast was enough for what you needed to get you started in the morning and the girls that served us were fantastic and beautiful in nature.
Once again, the hotel was very close to Lancaster Gate tube, bus stop that took you to places you wanted to go, Hyde Park across the road and pubs and restaurants down every street. We didn't come across a supermarket but there were plenty of little convenience stores that stocked water, fruit and essentials. A laundromat was around the corner for washing and drying clothes.
I would not recommend this place if you are going to lounge around in the room all day.

The twin room I booked was very spacious, with one double and one single bed. It also had a bigger-than-avarage tv set and fridge.
One thing I didn't like was a stange noise that came from the bathroom's ventilation system which seemed to be keep working also at night when all the lights were off (it wasn't too loud though). Overall a very nice stay.

Hotel rooms nicely decorated and very spacious. Bathroom maybe a bit on the small side. Breakfast rather poor and Breakfast room very small so sometimtes longs queues. Nevertheless a good hotel, in a quiet area and close to bus and tube. Perfect location for a short stay in London. Really good value for money in London!!

I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of this hotel. There were clean sheets and towels but otherwise very dirty. The carpets, walls, blankets and eating area were all extremely dirty and cigarette holes in the blankets and tableclothes of eating area. I will not recommend this hotel or stay there again.

This hotel occupies a narrow portion of the Georgian facade, but it seems to develop more at the back, so most rooms seem to look onto the backyard, kitchen heating system or service staircases. We had a nice large room, M2 (they seem to have changed room numbers recently, try to avoid M1, M2, G-sth.), 3 windows, but 1 facing a tree, 2 facing a wall and directly above 2 big aspirators from the kitchen. We had to take the lift to 1st floor then climb a couple of staircases down again to G floor, no help offered with the luggage. No way to open any window more than 10cm being on ground floor, no desire to open them for fear of the noise. Luckily the kitchen fans only went on for a short time in the morning, noise tolerable, no smell. Otherwise the room was really nice and quiet, we made excellent coffee and drank it at a nice coffee table, we had a fridge and a writing desk; no air conditioning, only a standing electric fan, no need for it. The bathroom was small but had a big bathtub; towels were changed every day. Breakfast managed to be really bad: burnt coffee (no decaf, which we had in our room!), tasteless toast, plastic-tasting croissant; good fruit juice. The breakfast room in the basement is small and ugly: worn-out wooden floor, a couple of broken chairs, some tables with rusty peeling-off metal legs (in your picture!), fabric tablecloths only quickly wiped for the next guests, no table bins to throw away butter wraps etc.
The location is beautiful, a very quiet area with virtually no traffic, very close to L.Gate station, Queensway for shops and restaurants, Kensington Gdns. The hotel sells and/or lends (with a deposit) electrical adaptors and umbrellas; they also organize transport to Heathrow and Gatwick by minibus. No charge for leaving luggage before or after times.
Choose this hotel if you want a quiet place to sleep in a beautiful central area. Check a better map: it's on the north side of an indenting off L.Gate.

The staff in lobby, housekeeping, and breakfast area were all excellent.(helpful, courteous)Room TV only had 3 channels.Rooms were on the small side.Lobby and breakfast area floors need to be refinished. The furniture in the lobby needs to be updated.Tablecloths in dinning area frequently soiled(perhaps a nice plastic would clean up better.A little more variety in menu for breakfast would be nice. The flowers on the tables(only during our first week) were nice. Hot chocolate in the rooms would also be nice.

Three older ladies spent five wonderful nights here. All staff members were very cordial and helpful. Room was clean, spacious, soundproof and pleasantly furnished. The bathroom was very nice with good water pressure. We found the continental breakfast to be good; hot food is available and you may bring fruit. We were in a triple (family) room on the north side of the building and were not disturbed by the restaurant noise. Quiet, attractive residential and hotel area. Two good pubs (Mitre and Swan), restaurants, grocery store, Hyde Park and tube stations within a few blocks. Excellent experience!
