I have stayed at the Hotel de l'Univers several times. It's nice to be recognized and to have your preferences remembered! The folks running the place are competent and friendly, and I'm going to keep returning until they quit! :-)

Liège was interesting to me because of its history, with its long era of prince-bishop rule, and it is a convenient stop between Cologne and Brussels/Antwerpen. When travelling by train, this hotel has a very good location. It was, however, not really easy to find; the text on venere.com "The hotel is located in front of the railway station" is somewhat misleading since the hotel is not at all facing the entrance of the station (which seems to be under re-construction at present) but is found in quite another direction. It is located quite close to the railway tracks, which might be regarded as a disadvantage; I was, however, personally not disturbed although my room had railway view. In the hotel, the staff was indeed helpful and attentive. When I had missed breakfast one morning, they brought it to my room without charging anything extra.
