This hotel bills itself as a three-star facility, definitely a stretch. It was OK for a one-night stay before an early flight the next morning, but not for a longer visit to Ostia. The bathroom with phone-booth-sized shower was the most cramped and unnavigable I've ever seen, and the room furnishings had a decidedly second-hand appearance. On the other hand, the mom and pop innkeepers were most welcoming and helpful. Also, we found a number of interesting-looking restaurants within easy walking distance and had dinner in an exceptional one, Il Giardino degli Aranci.

After staying in other popular (disappointing and overpriced)hotels near Fuimicino, we finally found this little jewel where we stayed a night in late Oct 07. It deserves all the praise we can give it. Needing to get an early start the next morning, we arrived at checkin time and were positively delighted to be able to spend the rest of the day investigating the charming neighborhood. The hotel is located across the street from the Mediterranean, with a beautiful view from our room at the top (which was suggested by an online reviewer-thanks), nice little shops and eateries nearby. We had our best meal in Italy at the "Eat And Go" Restaurant around the corner. Our rental car was safely locked behind gates on the property and the proprietors were darling and most accomodating. Took us only about 12 minutes to get to the airport for a 6:30 a.m. flight back to Chicago. We will stay there again and again and thank our lucky stars we found the Hotel Tirrenia.

The family and their yellow labrador were terrific. They advised us as soon as we arrived not to leave anything of value in the car. Our room #27 faced the beach and the sea. With respect to directions, it helps to know elemental Italian and that Lungomare means "along the sea." We just aimed the car toward the setting sun and managed to work our way through the tangled traffic until we reached the avenue. There are some okay restaurants along the beachfront, but Ristorante Ferrantelli, which the family recommended, was excellent, reasonably priced and a short walk from the hotel. This was the last stop on a two-week vacation in Italy. We stayed two days and just kicked back until it was time to get to the airport, which is reasonably close.

The hotel is well situated on the lungomare with a sea view and there is an handy free parking. However the lungomare may be quite busy and the good windows are sufficient but barely for providing quietness during the night. All in all a good stay.

We went for a long weekend to hotel tirrenia, The english at the reception from the owners is poor, but they are very helpfull and the childeren speak better english. The room is nice and tidy, exactly what you expect from a 3star hotel.

The Hotel overall was very good and the owners are very helpful in any way. The best Restaurant near the Hotel is the Pizzeria and Restaurant called "Alla Corte dei Borboni" with mostly napolitan dishes but the Quality and price is best in Ostia. I would choose the Hotel in any case again.

We ultimately stayed here twice in the same trip. Both times we had a rental car which is a must to stay in this area. It's really quite close to FCO which made it convenient for early flights. The hotel is family run and only a couple of people speak good English. Everyone else is still helpful it just requires more effort. The breakfast was decent. Once you know where the hotel is - it's really easy to find. Coming from FCO follow the signs to Ostia and then Lido di Ostia. When you get to the Lido area, take the main street (actually the leftmost lane) all the way to the 'boardwalk' and then take a left. The hotel is a couple of blocks down on the left. On our second stay, we had an early morning flight but we were able to check out the night before which was very helpful. We only arrived in the evening and left in the morning and never really saw much of the area. The restaurants we tried were decent though.

Inasmuch as we spent over an hour trying to find the hotel after we were within a few miles, I would recommend the hotel provide directions more suitable to local landmarks. We used Mapquest and found it difficult if not impossible to follow.

We were greeted coldly and shown a room with a small window in the loft. It was dark and sterile in the room. When we objected, we were reluctantly shown a comfortable room in the newer section. The pool, gardens and breakfast we're positives.

The hotel was fine. However there is inadequate secure parking. Second nights we had to park outside the gate on the road and were told by staff that the car with a case out of sight in the boot would be safe. The driver door was forced and the case stolen. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR.The damage will still occur but you will not lose anything!

Unless, you take a cab from Rome, the public transportation is a test. The place is very nice and the surrounding Lido is very upscale. the service by the family wants nothing. very little english is spoken in the area. it is an upscale beach resort with nice restaurants and pubs. there is no map or directions.

The family who ran the hotel was charming and very helpful as concerns restaurant suggestions, help with lost luggage and pharmacy location. For a one-night stay to catch up on sleep before heading off on trip this was an ideal location. Also, the town has one of the better restaurants in which we ate throughout our trip - the Courts of the Bourbon.

Hotel is nice, but if you take the taxi from the airport, be aware of the charges, it shouldn't be more than $ 30.00 euro. We got ripped off. The taxidriver got us to the hotel for $ 60.00 euro. Taxi back to the airport(the one hotel ordered from Ostia)was only $ 27.00.

A GREAT STAY ON THE MED. THE HOTEL WAS LOVELY AND EVERYONE GREAT TO US. THE BREAKFAST WAS SIMPLE AND A BIT SPARSE BUT FINE. THE VIEW ACROSS THE BUSY STREET WAS GREAT. ALSO, WE DISCOCERED A BRAND NEW MEUSUEM SET UP BY THE UNIVERSITY DISPLAYING A CITY THAT PRE DATED ROME BY ABOUT 400 YEARS. THE STUDENTS GRAPLED WITH ENGLISH AND DID A GREAT JOB. A WONDERFUL END TO OUR VACTION.

We were very happy with our brief stay and thank the family for their welcome; they helped my 72-year-old mother with many small requests and arranged an early breakfast for us when we departed. The rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. I will happily bring my whole family back here.

I feel that the people that work at Hotel Tirrenia are wonderful, however the room was so noisy, both my mom and I didn't sleep either nights we were there!!! We not only had kids knocking on our door at all hours, but the room the staff put us in was right above their family table that they stayed up until two in the morning talking at! Then because the hotel is so tiny, when the other guests went to bed at 3 in the morning, you could not only hear them talking, and yelling, but you could hear them climbing up the stairs, and slamming their doors. The Hotel Tirrenia has a very hospitable staff, but if you can't sleep due to all the noise it defeats the purpose of staying at this hotel!

The hotel Tirrenia is an excellent place to stay in Ostia. It is a family owned small hotel, very cosy and friendly. The whole family and stuff is so kind and friendly. You feel the italian atmosphere while staying at this place. Right opposite the hotel is the Sea with a lot of private beaches. Due to isolated windows you do not hear the noise from the street as much. I can recommand this hotel to everyone and would stay there again when I return to Ostia.

I chose this hotel because the website said that it had parking and air conditioning. Neither was available the night of my stay in June. When I mentioned this to the owner, she began to scream at me. It was the worst experience that I have ever had at a hotel, let alone one that cost 100 Euros.

The Hotel is small and the staff are friendly, although only a smattering of English spoken.
For visitors to Rome, it's a straight 15min. drive. There is a good sandy beach across the road, expect to pay a daily entrance fee
here as the norm is a'Beach Club' along this coast. Worth it though ,as there are good facilities ,bar, restaurant, lifeguard etc.
