we used this hotel as a base to visit Cinque Terre. This was the best hotel in our trip. Great service. We will definitely go back there.

Finding the property was extremely difficult, especially without directions, in the dark, and lightening and rain. But once found, it was an oasis. It is a great little hotel and restaurant in the hills above La Spezia. La Spezia is a very crowded, (not tourist oriented) city and I recommend staying at Nella if you have a car. The onsite restaurant is fabulous and breakfast is also very good. The owners and some staff spoke English. They also have Sky Cable TV, so actually had some English speaking stations. We visited the Cinque Terre by train from La Spezia and it was an easy day trip.

Great hotel in very rural area. A bit out of the way, but the setting is well worth it. Must have a car if staying at this hotel. No elevators, Italian breakfast.

This hotel was adequate. The room was a little tight and the decor was a little tired. The restaurant was nicer and the breakfast was substantial. Twice when I went to the front desk the attendant was watching TV upstairs and was not very interested in assisting me. That is a minor issue but did not leave a good impression.

A recommander.

Horrible - would never recommend this hotel, tatty, small rooms, dreadful location, rubbish value for money.

Nella Hotel worked really well for us as we had a car and were able to easily travel into La Spezia to travel to Cinque Terra, without a car it would be a bit difficult, also the hotel has plenty of parking space. We were given good advice with train and boat timetables. The food in the restaurant here is the best we had in our time in Italy. I also reccommend the bar across the road from the hotel. They were even able to organise a birthday cake for us.

Very friendly and welcoming hotel. A little out of the way, but convenient for Cinque Terre. Demi pension an excellent value, which is fortunate as there are no other restaurants in the vicinity. The food was good; local dishes with a different menu each night.

The most important thing to be aware of is that this hotel is well outside the town of La Spezia, about 20 minutes by bus. There is a bus stop less than 100m from the hotel but it stops in early evening (8.00-9.00 pm) so we were limited. The lady who runs it was very pleasant and helpful but we were very restricted by the fact we don't speak Italian, especially in the adjoining restaurant, where there was no English translation or assistance offered. Most of the food looked good but the fact that the accompanying bread we got was hard, stale and tasted awful, put us off.

First visit (room 20): Bathtub probably leaking. Flooding of floor, much smell. Second visit (room 12): Exellent.

No air conditioning in my room. It wasn't clearly stated during the booking process. Rooms are very small, but the breakfast is superior!

Nella was exceptionally beautiful. The hotel was gorgeous, spacious, clean, updated and welcoming. The staff was extraordinary in their hospitality and the food was great. If we would have started the vacation there, we wouldn't have left!

The Hotel Staff was always very nice and helpful. The hotel room was always having a strange bad smell that was coming from the pipes/tubing from the bathroom, definetely needing some general repair/renovation in order to avoid such problem.

Good welcoming, french spoken, free help for the lugagges. But the romm had a disgusting smell, like in a low cost old people's home. Location of room makes it difficult to open windows during the night (other people can see and go inside your room), wich is painfull in jully without air-conditioning. Breakfast was not fresh, and dinner was not made with fresh ingredients, especially fish, and was very low value for money. In the desk, I've heard other people complaining too. A bad experience, except for the warm welcome of very kind owners. If you have a dog (we have a big one), they are welcome, and there is a field very near to let them play.

Excellente adresse !

Nella is a beautiful little inn on top of a mountain, with a gorgeous view of La Spezia, the sea, and the Ligurian Apennines. The cab ride from the La Spezia train station is about 12 euro; there is also a bus, but it doesn't run especially regularly on weekends. The couple that runs the place is wonderful. They served us a great Italian meal for a very reasonable price. We had a wonderful, relaxing visit!

We stayed at five hotels/B&B's during our trip and it was at Hotel Nella that we received the warmest welcome. We were treated as if we were family. The hotel is lovely, set beautifully in the mountains, and the food was excellent. While we explored the Cinque Terra, Levanto, and Portovenere by day we came home to Hotel Nella's dining room every night for a delicious and festive meal as no restaurant in the area measures up. Signora Ravecca Carla made our stay memorable as did Signor Franco as we dined. Getting from the train station to the hotel and back requires taxi rides. Next time we may explore renting a car when we get to LaSpezia.

We liked Hotel Nella. We just didn't think it was really a 3 star hotel. We had stayed in other 2 stars and even one 1 star that were just as nice. You really should have a car to stay here, which we did - so we were happy to be away from the city. Dinner there was a pleasant surprise.

It's a little bit too out of the city and expensive, for the quality it gives.

20 minutes out of La Spezia,up the side of mountain. Irregular bus service and last bus at 18.30. No restaurant facilities on the Sunday we stayed there.
