HOTEL OVERVIEW

Hotel Los Frailes Havana - Venere.com hotel front view On the narrow alleys of Old Havana, the Los Frailes Inn stands just a few steps away from the majestic convent of Saint Francis of Assisi and the populous Old Square.

The former mansion of the fourth Marquis and Captain of the French Navy, Don Pedro Claudio Duquesne, once visited by the finest nobility, ecclesiastical dignitaries, military authorities, renowned artists, the best of Cuban and foreign society, has become today the perfect place to enjoy the voice of silence and meditation in the pleasant afternoons of the old city. Right at the entrance, a copper sculpture of a monk welcomes visitors, inviting them to an imaginary trip to a medieval abbey.

Nice hotel in very good location (although taxis can´t stop directly outside). A bit noisy in the mornings, and the breakfast is poor. Compared to other hotels in Havana, this is a good option and is good value.

Very nice and well located. Very friendly staff, however the elevator was out of order and nobody helped us with the luggages. Small rooms.

My only complaint was the receptionist was unfriendly when checking in and the concierge stood and watched us whilst we struggled with our luggage up to the rooms. All the other staff were very friendly. Great location. I was disppointed to have a room without a window.

The hotel is nice and cosy and our rating is overall positive. In Cuba don't expect too much!! However, we paid $240 for a double room in two days is very high! Especially considering that our room did not have windows.

Excellent location in Old Havana - within easy walking distance of major attractions, restaurants and transport. Very helpful staff. A negative factor is the fact that the majority of the rooms don't have windows which is a little claustophic - certainly a monastic feel. Also noise echoed from the central courtyard/reception area on one night.

I had the chance to spend the first of three nights in a suite, with windows and balcony giving onto a nice and quiet alley of Habana Vieja. Definitely better than standard rooms, poorly ventilated and dark. Venere's webpages don't quote the rate of a suite, that is obviously more expensive (+40-50$, I believe). No king or queen size beds, even in the suites. No breakfast or restaurant facilities inside the building (but nearby). However a pleasant stay, on the whole, with a honest price/quality ratio. In Habana Vieja I spent a further night in the Telegrafo Hotel. Less "charming", a bit more expensive, but well-equipped and with a superior level of service.
