The rooms are each named after original grapevines of the Castelli Romani, a famous wine-growing area even during ancient times; Tor de Passeri, Usignola, Trebbianella, Garofolella, Fragoletta, Cigliegiola, Principessa, Bombinella, Malvasia, Pizzutello; memories of the past to keep local traditions alive.
All guestrooms are elegantly decorated and equipped with direct dial telephone, individually controlled air conditioning, mini bar, safety deposit box and modern facilities including Pay and Interactive TV with ADSL Internet connection.
The Demi Suite, larger than the Comfort Room, is equipped with a wonderful circular bath while the Suite features a luxurious spa bath.

A pleasant hotel with welcoming staff. The adjoining restaurant provides satisfactory food but at a high price and with stuffy and rather surly waiters. Far better to go around the corner to Michelin recommeded "Nando" (?)which is excellent and cheaper. We had a room at the front of the hotel and found the noise from outside to be problem during the pre-midnight period.. This is caused by people leaving the restaurant or just going out to have a smoke. We could have kept the windows closed but the room's 'climate control' seemed to be locked on high temperatures and, to sleep, we need to keep windows open. Nice bathroom but shower leaked badly. Breakfast is in reception area - not ideal. To enter the hotel you need to ring a bell - again, not ideal. Car park opposite useful but the hotel staff had to renew the ticket on a daily basis which was a bit of a hassle. Grottaferrata is a pleasant town to stay in. Really, this is a hotel for businessmen rather than tourists. I did not feel they have not got the ambience quite right for families or couples. Still, not a bad hotel if a little expensive for what it offers.

Grottaferatta is a small town outside Rome, with modest shopping and no great attractions apart from a very interesting, fortified old abbey. It's convenient for the airports and for trips to Lake Albano and Castelgandolfo, so we stopped off for the last two days of our holiday. The hotel (once you find it--a satnav is really useful) is extraordinary, with beautiful rooms and bathrooms worthy of a spa resort. There is a small lobby with comfortable chairs, in which a light breakfast is served (fresh orange juice, cereals and good coffee, plus fresh fruit on one of our two days). The restaurant next door, owned by the same people, is full of character, exeptionally good and has an amazing cellar and wine list. Surprisingly, there is another fine restaurant just around the corner (right and right again--don't remember the name). Excellent place for a last taste of Italian cuisine.

Unbelievable surprise! The owner met us 2 blocks away as we could not find the street. Then she treated us to wine and treats in their lovely reception area. Later, we had dinner in their adjoining restaurant, which was authentically Tuscan and totally delicious. The service and hospitality there was equally impressive. This was a one night stop chosen for its proximity to Ciampino airport. I would choose it for an extended stay. I cannot say enough about the beauty of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff.

The Staff at Locanda dello Spuntino were first-class. They always had a kind smile and would not hesitate to go the second mile for my wife and I. It is located in a beautiful little town outside of Rome, and the restaurant next to it (Taverna dello Spuntino) is fantastic. To get to Rome, we took a 5 minute taxi ride to the Frascati train station, which takes you directly to the Rome Terminal. It's a 30 minute train ride but really doesn't feel like it. You can take the Metro from the Rome Terminal to get to the Vatican or Colosseum.
Overall, this a first-class hotel.
